    Shannon28 got a reaction from Msdropinoff in Should I Or Shouldn't I?
It has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. But it's not something that happens overnight and there will be ups and downs along the way. My BMI was way higher than yours (55.5) but it all depends on your situation. If you have comorbidties or issues like depression or anxiety caused by being overweight then I highly recommend this surgery. And like you I also had problems with will power but I think this surgery has changed that. I'm eating way better now and the more weight I lose the more active I get. I had severe social anxiety before this surgery and although I don't know if it will ever fully go away it has gotten so much better. I'm not kidding when I say this surgery has changed my life, I'm actually looking forward to going out now.. I used to cry even thinking about it. I've done all the fad diets and pills, nothing worked except for this surgery.

You're not very far out, only two months now. It's slow when you first start out and takes a few adjustments to get to the restriction level you need. I had mine on April 16th and just now got my second fill. My first fill didn't give any restriction so I felt a little bummed out about it but reassured myself that this isn't an overnight thing. Your 30 lb loss is great though and you should be very proud of accomplishing that much. I gained several pounds after starting solid foods, then lost all of it, then stayed the same weight for almost 2 weeks.. didn't budge at all. Now I'm starting to lose weight again. So it's an up and down battle but it will be worth it in the end. You will do great on your journey, just give it some time. Good luck!

Don't be so hard on yourself... Just to add to stephy's comment, a typical eating day for me is a shake in the morning = 30g ( I can't physically eat and I am always in a rush) lunch I hit the salad bar at work and take a scoop or two of each thing= cottage cheese, kidney Beans, garbanzo Beans, hard boiled egg, chopped bacon and beets and peppers if I'm in the mood. I don't do lettuce so this all comes to approx a cup of food. Will last me all afternoon. I would guess approx Protein would be in the 20g range. Then if I add a Greek yogurt with 10-14g you will easily hit your Protein mark and not be hungry. My dinner I am never hungry but do the head hunger thing or the "it's dinner time and I need to eat" so it is what someone else has fixed... Good luck, I bet just tweaking a few things and you will be satisfied and on track.

Shannon28 got a reaction from TKW in Carbonated Drinks???
I'm not allowed to have carbonation for a year but all I was told is that it it can cause gas pain. After a year if I want to try it they said to let it sit out for awhile to get a lot of the fizz out. But since I haven't had it in over a month, I don't really have cravings for it anymore. I WAS drinking at least one Mello Yello or Red Bull a day... so glad not to be getting that much sugar in anymore. Now all I drink is Water and surprisingly I'm satisfied with it. If I want a little change I drink water with MIO in it.

I'm about 3 weeks out and I feel the same way. My most stressful part of all of this is the pressure to make sure to lose weight. I know I'm still in the healing stage but I feel stressed out when I have to get around some members of my family as well as my husbands because I feel like they are looking to see if I've lost any weight.I feel pressured to lose a certain amount or everyone will think I shouldn't have gotten the surgery. I know it's probably all in my head and they really don't feel that way but it still worries me. And your're right because it definitely is a roller coaster, I don't feel negative everyday. Today I woke up in a great mood about it all!

Congrats! I'm glad you had a great experience. Having a great experience at the hospital really is nice. The staff at the surgery center I went to was really nice. The anesthesiologist put her hands on my face before I went under and said "We're going to take great care of you". And my Doctor told me not to worry that I will do great. Right then and there I knew I would be well taken care of. Congrats again on getting banded, I've only been banded a little over a week and I love it!

This was the first time I've gotten treatment like this before. She was awesome, the whole staff was. I felt like I was being taken care of by family but yet they were strangers. I will ALWAYS remember that experience!

Shannon28 got a reaction from AmandaBelle75 in Liquid Diet Has Commenced!
I'm going to be completely honest about how I was.. I struggled so hard with the liquid pre-op diet. I cheated for the first few days, and I felt extremely guilty everytime I did it. I mean, I'm big and have been big my whole life and have always eaten a certain way so when I was deprived of having the certain foods I was used to having I failed big time. A few days before the surgery I went to the surgery center to pay my costs and sign papers. They weighed me because they needed a final accurate weight and I had gained nearly 20 lbs since my consultation which put me over a 55 BMI. They said I would need to lose 3 lbs before surgery (which was in 4 days) or I wouldn't be able to have the surgery. I cried when I got home because I new I had done it to myself and possibly had ruined my chance to have the surgery. I got right back on track with those Protein Shakes and even exercised (something that I hadn't done in years). On surgery day I was extremely nervous because I was expecting to be told to go home, but to my surprise I had lost 11 pounds just in those 4 days. I was ECSTATIC because I knew I did that for myself and it was a lot easier than it had ever been because I knew I HAD to do it. I had surgery on the 16th and everything is going great. I've been on a clear liquid diet since then and it's been quite easy and I've been losing weight steadily. On Monday I get to have yogurt, pudding, carnation instant Breakfast, etc. I don't get to have things like eggs until the week after, but right now I don't feel deprived or hungry and know I can totally do this!
Well, there was my story. I completely admit to cheating on my pre-op diet for a few days and it's something I feel guilty for and it almost bit me in the butt. But I got back on track and loving it now. The pre-op diet was way harder than the diet after being banded. Hang in there because it's very rewarding afterwards! Good Luck! (and sorry about how long this was)

Thanks! I like to be honest about it because that's what I would have wanted going into this. But it does get easier. All I've had today was broth, sugar free Jello, and Water and I feel completely satisfied. Good luck with your surgery, you will do great!
