  1. The vegus nerve runs from your stomach to your head. It is possible with the increased pressure to have headaches from a fill.
  2. Its normal to be nervous and of course most people always look at the people who have had complications. Most band failures occur because the patient was non compliant with their diet. Not because the band caused the failure. If you read the statistics you would see that only about 4% of bands actually fail out of how many thousands are done. If the failure rate was extremely high then the FDA would not let this surgery continue to be done. Pouch dilation occurs from over eating. Band slippage occurs from excessive vomiting from getting things stuck too frequently, band erosion comes from eating too much and forcing the band into the stomach wall. There is nothing to worry about if you follow your doctors instructions.
  3. I would get it checked also but you could have what they call a raised scar. Its sort of like a keloid but not as bad. If its not infected it could take a while to go down. I get raised scarring and it is painful but does eventually even out. But that is just me so get it checked.
  4. unfortunately gas is a permenant part of being banded. We all have it. I have had it for three years. I just take gas ex or beano before I eat which seems to help.
  5. You are weighing your self too much. Also those processed foods even though they are smart ones are not good for you and will make you gain weight. I would say put the scale away because you are doing great. We can fluctuate in weight up to 8lbs in one day because of water weight, constipation, not sleeping. You are doing the right thing just keep doing what you are doing.
  6. No one is bashing her. I only asked some questions. Yes everyone has a right to post anything they want however be prepared for any answers you receive when you post. It doesnt matter if this is a complication part of this website when you post something it is out there for the entire public of this forum. No one is bashing her. I gave my opinion and asked again I am repeating it why she waited so long for an answer. I hardly think that is bashing her. Why are you bashing everyone else. Are you not doing the same thing that you are saying we are doing?
  7. I find it hard to believe that so many lap band patients do not follow their doctors instructions. You are given post op instructions of liquids and upgrading your diet slowly for a reason. You band is stitched to the stomach and eating before you are supposed to YES CAN BE HARMFUL. When you eat the stomach has to work and churn and move and if you are filling it with food before you are supposed to then you are not giving your surgery sites time to heal. Its not just about your incisions but about the band placement too. Why risk it because you are hungry? Why take matters in to your own hands and eat what you want when you want then down the road you will be the first person complaining the band failed me. Any doctor gives you instructions for your health. Do you not take your routine medications like they were prescribed? Would you not take insulin or high blood pressure medication just because you didnt feel like it? Heck no you wouldn't. So why take a chance with the band? A month out of your life is not going to kill you to be hungry. Just do what you are told to do then you won't have to be asking did I do something to hurt my band.
  8. Chicken is not band friendly its stringy. Slider foods are not just things that are full of fat they are any junk food that you eat. Crunchy things always go down easy so that includes crackers, cookies, doritos, potato chips, ice cream. The best way to eat meat is to take one small bite, chew it well and wait a few minutes before you take another bite.
  9. I didnt say you were asking for advice or a question or that it was your fault or anything. I responded to your post because you posted it and I think I was asking the questions. You are sharing your experience then because you want others to see that the band is a failure or what? I also found another similar post you made a few months back under another name with the same story.
  10. You did great! I don't go to those places because I just can't eat that much food even with paying childrens prices.
  11. Im not saying it was your fault. I simply said why did you wait so long for an answer. I said dilation occurs from over eating which MAY not WAS the cause of your problems. I am not insinuating anything was your fault. No need for the dont blame me game. I was not blaming you I just said why did you wait so long. Gee whiz if you dont want answers then dont post long post that people take the time to read and then get offended because you did not get the answer you were seeking.
  12. If that is what your doctor told you to do then that is what you should be doing.
  13. I see no need to think anyone is assuming you are not an adult and know your anatomy however too much time went by without an answer. You lapband surgeon is not just a surgeon but educated on the complications of the band that he placed inside you. Another thing is pouch dilation occurs from over eating which may have been the major cause of your problems. No need to get offended because I was not assuming you did not know your own body but certainly if things were getting that bad I would not have waited so much time without an answer.
  14. So sorry you experienced such problems but why so many visits to your pcp and not your band doctor? He would have been the first person every single time that I would have seen. No I dont think you are band bashing but I think you spent more time with your pcp and not enough time with your lapband surgeon and I would not have seen his PA either I would have asked for him personally.
  15. Everyone goes bat crazy here when they are hungry but I love feeling hungry. Yes you may think I am crazy but this is why I love feeling hungry. All of my life I was obese and I consumed probably about 4 to 5 thousand calories a day and never gave my stomach a chance to ever be empty. I would even get up in the middle of the night and eat cookies, cereal, peanut butter and jelly or what ever darn thing I could find to stuff in my face. The very first time I felt hungry after lap band surgery I was pissed off but then I thought "I have never felt hungry before in my life". When I am hungry it means it really is time to nourish my body. The days following the post op diet of liquids only were not pleasant but from that time I welcomed hunger. I realized I was not going to die due to no food for a few weeks because I could drink as much as I wanted. I was not starved to death because that only happens when people can not afford to purchase food or live in a country that has no food or if someone is anorexic and refuses to eat. I was not in any way going to starve to death. I love feeling hungry, hearing my stomach actually growl once in a while. I know I won't die because of it. So when you are feeling hungry if it is true stomach growling hunger enjoy it because I guarentee you have never really felt hungry while you were obese. You are not going to die from being hungry but maybe just uncomfortable. If you are just head hungry then don't complain about it because our heads made us obese unhealthy people. The preop and post op is only a small portion of your life that goes quickly. Welcome hunger and know that it really is a signal to nourish your body with healthy food.
  16. You will do fine. Just because you are having surgery doesnt mean you cant stay on track with your band. When they do the hemmrhoid surgery you probably wont want to eat for fear of pooping lol so that should make you lose a few pounds. Just take one day at a time and you will do it but don't resort back to eating because you are having a rough time.
  17. We all were hungry. You will survive. Its only a short amount of time out of your life that you have to be hungry. Enjoy hunger because you probably havent felt that feeling in years. I agree with the sugary drinks get rid of them.
  18. Still have it three years later lmao
  19. 15 miles this week and last week
  20. Sweet baby Jesus where did 50 years go? Here I am 50 today and I never thought I would make it this far. I feel great. My husband woke me up at 2 a.m. with a cake singing happy birthday. Ha I can't eat cake but oh well the roses tasted good at 2a.m. I feel good, looking great and the best is yet to come. Now if the time would slow down so I can do everything I want. You see this journey has been a great one and has given me my life back in a great way. Happy 5oth birthday to me and looking forward to being the healthiest middle age person ever. AARP was waiting in the mail for me but I dont feel that old yet. It is for old people isnt it lol. I did it/still doing it and hope everyone else succeeds in their journey. Breakfast in bed, a Vera Bradley purse and Bahama Breeze for dinner and yes I am drinking a Mohito with extra rum. You only turn 50 0nce. I'm making the best of it.
  21. I eat eggs most days but I need ketchup on them to go down. But I love my eggs. It wont happen if they are plain. You might want to try over easy also.
  22. Didnt your doctor give you a list of foods to eat once you were off liquids? So many possibilities.
  23. Do things that have nothing to do with weight loss. Things that don't involve food. Watch a good movie, read a good book, go walk the mall, go to the movies, there is so much you can do to not think about food.
  24. If you can pinch your skin on your arm and it stays pinched for a few minutes afterwards then you are dehydrated if not then you are not. You probably just feel that way. If you drank that many fluids today you would not be dehydrated. Dont drink broth if you are feeling that way as it is full of salt. Drink gatorade and water.
  25. Quaker oats weight control oatmeal takes a minute in the microwave 7 grams of protein, greek yogurt, scrambled eggs, you have to make time to eat. Get up earlier.
