Yes, had the surgery at 8:30am and was discharged at 5pm. My surgeon does all the band surgeries during the first part of the day because they are all same day discharges. I was only nauseous in the recovery room and they put something in the iv for me. Once i got to ambulatory to sit for another 3 hours while sipping water, i was able to walk around....especially to the bathroom cuz in recovery, i hated having to ask the nurse for the bedpan and hope she put it in the right place so i don't pee myself!!!! I stopped taking the lortab today so that i wouldn't have that terrible dizzy spell again! I seem to be ok. Maybe i'll just take tylenol before going to bed and see how i do with that. Thanks Marabeth!!

Try sipping broth throughout the day and chewing gum. That's what got me through.

Had a pretty bad night with the pain and gas. Guess the day after surgery is worse than the day of. Had surgery on monday morning. This morning, after drinking my shake, i felt very woozy while washing dishes (light work)......wondering what the dizzyness is coming from? pain meds? hunger?- September Bandsters
Good for you!!! That's amazing!- September Bandsters
I suspect mine is near the biggest incision above my belly button and a bit to the left. I'm just afraid to touch it now cuz my whole stomach is so raw.- September Bandsters
We got banded at the same time!!!! I went home afterwards though. Hope you're doing better. Yes, the incisions do hurt! I'm in the same boat. It's also hard to move around in bed so i didn't sleep too well. We're on our way!- September Bandsters
Thanks for your response. I'm able to function today as well but still taking the painkiller. My husband did go to work today as well. I'm feeling a lot of soreness from all the incisions......have no idea where my port is......is it through the biggest incision?- September Bandsters
My husband was the same way. As time got closer, he was questioning and not wanting to talk about it. I had my surgery yesterday and now he's fine. I think that once you're on the other side and your husband sees you're doing fine, he'll feel much better. It's the unknown that scares him like it did my husband. Good luck!- September Bandsters
Had my surgery today. Things went well and i'm hoping they went well with anyone else getting banded today. The thirst was difficult throughout. I was thirsty while sitting in preop for 1.5 hours but obviously couldn't drink. After surgery, while in recovery, i did feel nauseous so the nurse gave pushed some meds into the IV. Because of this, they decided not to give me any Water or ice for the 3 hours i was down there.......that was really tough. I had terrible dry mouth and was so uncomfortable. Finally, when they brought me to Ambulatory Medicine, they gave me ice chips and i tried real hard not to down all the water at once! Was walking around in amubulatory with no problems. Discharged 3 hours later. For the most part, i'm feeling good....just a bit of pain inside and out. Hoping to get a good night's sleep and some rest tomorrow. One question to previous bandsters: how long does it take to recover enough to function enough without much pain?- September Bandsters
Would love to join post op group! I'm getting banded tomorrow morning!! I can't believe the time has finally come. Today was really hard being on a clear liquid diet but i am past it and am ready. Good luck to all of you getting banded tomorrow.- September Bandsters
I'm scheduled for monday the 19th too!! They are having me get to the hospital at 6:30am! Thankfully, i'm the first appt. Hoping to be home before the kids get home from school. I've been on full liquids these past 2 days and can only have clear liquids tomorrow (sunday). What are you guys having surgery on monday eating for breakfast tomorrow? I can only think of tea cuz broth doesn't appeal to me for breakfast.- Birth control yes/no/maybe
My doc said no pill for a month before surgery and then a month afterwards.......guess every doc is different.- September Bandsters
At the seminar i had gone to, there was a bandster who spoke about the band. I asked her if she can feel the port. She came over to me and had me feel the port area of her stomach......i felt it just below the skin and she had virtually no fat there. I never thought to ask the surgeon about it's placement when i saw him tues. Oh well.- September Bandsters
LOL!!- September Bandsters
3 days before surgery i need to be on a full liquid diet. During the first 2 days, if i don't have a bowel movement, i was told to take dulcolax at the end of those 2 days (24 hours before surgery).- September Bandsters
It's so nice to hear that all of you who had surgery already are doing great. I'm anxiously waiting for my surgery on monday.- September Bandsters
I think i'll feel better once i'm eating normal foods and not just liquids. Just have to somehow get through it without the carb cravings.- September Bandsters
Just had my preop testing done at the hospital and am set for the 19th. I also don't have a preop diet until 2 days before when i can only have clear liquids. Before today, i could not wait and the surgery date could not come fast enough. Now, after sitting with the nutritionist to go over what i can eat till the surgery and then during the weeks afterwards........i'm really nervous. I question if i'm doing the right thing......can i handle this? Or am i experiencing the presurgery jitters?- September Bandsters
Thank you very much for clarifying that. It now makes sense.- September Bandsters
Vanilla, i'm so sorry to hear that. I don't know why the surgeon's offices give surgery dates before getting final approval from the ins. I was surprised at this. Got my surgery date yesterday but then when i went to the support group, she told me that all my clearances are in and the whole package was sent out to the ins. It didn't occur to me at the time, but when i got home i was thinking "why on earth did she give me a date when she only now sent out the info to the insurance??" Getting a surgery date should be the ultimate definate that you are going to have the surgery and everything is in place. To make people have to go on the 2 week liquid diet and preop testing only to have the ins come back in the negative, is crazy!!- So excited!
I just got my date! Sept 19- September Bandsters
My nutritionist said that because caffeine is a diuretic and makes you go, it is a concern that you'll be losing too much of the necesssary fluids your body needs after surgery...especially in the beginning. It's going to be hard for me as well cuz i just love my flavored coffees in the mornings and the decaf ones are terrible- September Bandsters
Hi. Just got my surgery date. I'll be banded on the 19th. Not sure about any diet instruction until next week when i see the surgeon. Sooo nervous. - September Bandsters
