  1. I have not gone from band to sleeve, but my cousin got the band and did well for about 2 years. Then the band started to have complications. She is the reason I chose the sleeve. She now doesn't have the money to fix her problem. I don't want to tell you to have a surgery, but you may want to think about checking the Dr.s before you get to your new home. I love having my sleeve, and my cousin wishes she had the sleeve instead. She fears that the band has done perminent damage to her stomache.

Need Some Advice - Don't Know What To Do Or Say..

Lovinghusband1979, Hi, if your wife is only 40 lbs over weight I doubt she will find a Dr who would give her the surgery. I had a bmi of 32. That is about 200 lbs at 5'6" and I just qualified. My husband thought I was beautiful and didn't need the surgery. He loves me for the beautiful person he sees on the inside. I should tell you I love my husband of 20 years beyound reason and I am a mother of 6 children. I didn't ask permission or what he wants of my body because it's my body. I would have had the surgery with or with out his blessing because it was what I needed. Being married doesn't mean you give the rights of your body away. I understand your fear. You don't want to lose the woman you love, but she may be feeling she is loosing herself and doesn't have an out. This may be a chance for her ( if she does qualify ) to be the woman SHE needs to be. If you are open to her idea to this she would more than likely make you part of the process. Help find the doctor ( personaly I wouldn't go to a Dr who didn't do a least a thousand sleeves ). Help her with the foods for the pre diet. Tell her you don't understand, but you love and suport her choices. This is what my husband did and I respect him the more for it. He knew telling me what to do would put a fire into this Irsh womans' heart that would make me deaf to all he would say.
  4. Hi, often when women diet or exercise and their bodies aren't acustomed to it, they will have a decressed or absent period.
  5. As a general rule I like to keep nuts in the car ( to clarify, not nutty people, pistashios or peanuts ). It's a good go to snack for adults and kids. They have high protein and they are easy to eat in the car. Best wishes

    Day After...

Congratulations! Now you're on the losers bench. Best wishes
  7. I have always had very bad acid reflux. For a short time after the surgery I didn't use my medication to test and see if I needed it. I went about a week without it, and started feeling the acid come up. I got back on the meds ( I don't want to mess with throat cancer, it's not worth it ). I will try again at a years time out from surgery.

11 Days Post Op And Regretting Decision.

I didn't get to eat until I was 2 weeks out and it was only mushie foods. I started out with thicker soups and soft cheese like laughing cow. If it feels uncomfortable wait to eat more. Start slowly and learn what your body likes. When I go to eat out I often just order soup so I don't have food drama.

    Need Some Advice.

My husband made " jealous" coments after I had my surgery. I had sat down with him and started the ' what's going on' conversation. He had it in his head that I might want a whole new life now that I have a new body. I love and I'm in love with my husband, I'm a mother of 6...I'm not going any where . I asked him if he liked the way I looked before ( was he a secret chubby chaser? ), because he should of said something before the surgery if that was the case. We cleared the air and opened up. He was never a jealous person before, but having the surgery gave him a little insecurity. Sit down and have a heart to heart. Clearing out the emotional baggage will only help your family.
  11. The fat girl in you is trying to hold on to you! My fat girl trys too. Remember to eat your protien first and you'll be too full to make bad choices. I keep pistachios as my go to snack, it has protien and is the lowest calorie nut. Best wishes
  12. On the coments after the story they seemed to blame the patient.

    I Disagree With You But...

You're young and thats a great time to have this surgery before your body is compromised by many health problems. I'll ask you this, Do you change your oil in your car or do you wait until you need a new transmission because you let it go? The same thing can happen to your body. Do you want to wait until your children are older, and you have missed out on all the play time ( because your just too tired to run with them )or give them the new improved eatting habits you will have gained because of the surgery? I understand the the fear of having any surgery, especially because you're a mother ( I am a mother of 6, My oldest 23, my youngest 3 ). In my life I wanted the health and energy so I can be just as active with my youngest as I was with my oldest. I want to see life 20 years from now with vitality. I just saw one of 2 futures. Me sitting at one of my youngest daughters wedding receptions tired of the day because of all the weight I've gained up to that point, or me dancing and looking good in a pretty dress. When I had the surgery I was just obese (bmi of 32), but I was gainning and I didn't see it getting any better in the future with out surgery. After all, who would have surgery if they could get the weight off and keep it off? I got some guff because I was not bigger and I decided to have the surgery, Now I can laugh, because they were wrong. My life, my family's life is better. I'm not at "normal" weight yet. but I feel so much better! It was one of the best discisions I have made. Best wishes

    I Can't Tolerate Water?

After surgery I could'nt drink water either. I had to drink liquids that were thicker for the first month ( v8 fusions, tomato juice ), I was worried that I might be like that forever. Good news, it goes away. I can't chug water the way I could have before the surgery, but I can certainly drink it now. Best wishes
  15. I agree with clk, I even have had a hysterectomy and every month I gain and lose with in that one week. I am a slow loser as well. I lose about 1 lb. a week, so I know how bad that weight gain looks. I try to stay away from the salty meats around that time of the month, because I also swell ( I can tell with my ring ). As for the constipation, it's common because you're not putting as much food in as before. (tmi) I go about once a week now. If it goes longer than that I have a prune.

    Sushi Recommendations?

My first sushi was one slice, the other eight I had to throw away. I'm the only one who enjoys sushi in my family, so I've only purchased it twice. I love ell sushi. The California roll hasn't any meat in it if you don't enjoy fish.

    Been Mia- Many Apologies

Congratultions, It's good to see you! May you have a safe trip to Texas.
  18. I loved Mc Donalds french fries pre surgery, I don't like the greasy taste now. I loved all style of eggs before, now I can only have fried over medium and I can't eat the whole egg. I would drink milk with every meal pre surgery, after, I can't have milk with lactose, but I can have cheese and yogurt. I love my sleeve and I have learned a new happines with different food. My favorite right now is 2 crackers, each has 1/4 of a wedge of laughing cow and a little prosciutto on top. Fills me up and is very flavorful. I do miss popcorn and the joy of throwing it up and eating it.

Did I Make The Right Choice?

This is from my cordinators site. Your After Surgery Diet DURING THE FIRST WEEK, Clear Liquids ARE RECOMMENDED Your first week The first and second week you will be in a liquid diet, using straw is recommended to avoid big gulps that may cause nausea or discomfort. During the fist week clear liquids are recommended (water apple and grape juices, tree top, ocean spray and welch's are recommended) From fourth day on, natural fruit juices (strained and Gelatin can be added if well tolerated) The largest volume take that your stomach can accept is 2 fl. Oz. At a time, let it rest for 2 hours before serving this quantity again. Have all the clear Water that u can in between "meals". Miscalculations may lead to nausea. Room temperature during first week is the most recommended, slightly cold gelatin is acceptable. Take gelatin in small chunks and chew and dissolve. Take care of wounds: clean daily bath using only water and soap, scrubbing only in the same direction of it, cover with gauze or band aid. NEVER: - Keep on eating if you are already satisfied. - Try to eat more than your stomach can handle. Your second and third week Keep in mind that you now have a new stomach, much smaller than a couple of weeks ago; the volume needed to fill your stomach is now 2 oz. It is time to include variety and a few more consistent foods to your diet: On your second week continue with clear liquids and gelatin and add: Whole natural fruit juice, use synthetic sugar to sweeten. Pear and apple pure Soups (broth): Potato Tomato Lentil Vegetable chicken On your third week add: Chopped fruit (very small pieces) Whole Vegetable juices Whole Vegetable juices At this time you should be able to handle correctly your new stomach capacity. But always remember to let it rest for 2 hours before repeating the serving of more consistent food or the 2 oz. Measure, miscalculation may lead to nausea and stomach ache. Food temperature: Fruit juices are well tolerated cold (no exaggeration) Warm soups. The care of your wounds: As a normal symptom of healing, itching will appear. NEVER: - Keep on eating if you are already satisfied. - Try to eat more than your stomach can handle. I hope this helps
  21. I'm sorry you are going through the heart break of divorce and what could have been. I am very happy to hear you are a strong enough woman, who loves herself enough, to get out of an abusive situation. Best wishes
  22. You don't get a catheter when you have surgery. Your not allowed liquids 12 hours before so there is no need. Sometimes changes in bathing water, antibiotics and lack of liquids can trigger a uti. Best wishes
  23. Welcome to the forum! I went there and they took very good care of me. What is it you wood like to know?
  24. I have it. I've had it for over 8 years. I'm taking rx zegerid. I was taking it in the morning before the surgery, but now I take it after dinner, before bed. I don't think I need this strong of a dose now. This is not scientific, but I think the same size pill in my new small stomache is over kill. I had not refilled my rx on time and replaced a Saturday night and Sunday night pill with 2 tums. I didn't suffer at all.
  25. You're right on schedule to have the fear factor, because the dream is becoming real and we all have the fear that any dream may turn into a nightmare. If you're anything like me you have cried over what may happen and even feel a little guilty. I am a mother of 6, the oldest daughter 23 is married and have given me 2 of the cutest grandsons. When would she not need me? She is a new mother and has many questions on how to do things. My 19 year old son who is becoming an independent young man. Who would tell him how to prepare for the financial problems or his need for little extra cash? Who would tell my budding 11 year old girl what a wonderful person she is and what are cuties? What about my 4 year old son who has a speach disability, he has yet to say his own name and I want to hear it. Then there are my youngest twin girls. 3 years of life and wraped up into me. The truth is if your a mother there is NEVER an opertune time to die for you or for them. I took that knowledge and asked myself how did I want to live the rest of my life. As it was, My bmi was 32, just obese, however I have a heart murmur under illness. Bad knees ( I was a competitive skater as a child )and the extra weight would make them ache. I had a hysterectomy and could not stop the weight gain through exercise and a 1200 calorie diet. I was going to bed at 8 pm out of fatigue. Would my health get better if I would not get the surgery? No, The more weight I put on my heart the more dangerous the surgery, the more weight I put on my knees the harder it would be for me to walk post surgery. In 20 years time if I hadn't had vsg I would be just like my family members who wake up to watch tv until bed time ( If my heart held out ).I decided my children deserved better, I deserved better! I took strength from the pioneers. They came to a world with peril because it gave them and their offspring a chance of a better life. I wanted a better life for me and my family. Although I would not have to go any where near the trama our pioneers did. I had a thought of using the braveory they might have had, to have my surgery. My Dr. can't find my murmur now and it's only been a few months. I have so much energy and I don't even want to go to bed until 11pm and I don't remember when my knees last ached. I can now give my youngest the same play time my oldest had. I'm so glad I had this surgery and I didn't let my fears stop me.
