Cazzy got a reaction from 2muchfun in 4 1/2 months post-op and no fill
Congratulations on your weight loss so far, but as the others have said, it is essential that you keep your appointments whether u need fills or not. Taking care of the band is your responsibility, any complications and you could end up having to have it removed. You probably were too tight with a small fill post surgery due to the general swelling post op, it is common for people to feel tight after surgery if they have a fill when the band is put in. Now u have lost weight it is a natural progression that the band may get looser due to the reduction of fat around your stomach.

I think it is perfectly normal to question the idea of voluntarily placing a foreign object inside your body...it is indeed pretty science fictionlike when you think about it. That said, many people have plates, screws, etc in their bodies (I have a rebuilt ankle made with titanium!) so it's not all that exceptional.
So I look at my band as I view my ankle--without these foreign objects, I'm "broken". But with them, I'm in recovery.

Cazzy reacted to elcee in Banded 12 years! Port infection , am I gonna lose my buddy ?
It is possible that this is a sign that your band has eroded into the stomach. When this happens the infection can travel along the tubing to the port. I would be rather concerned. Antibiotics are good but I believe that you also need further testing to confirm what has caused the problem. If it is an eroded band that is causing the infection then it is a medical emergency and you need urgent surgery. Good luck and keep us updated.

Not everyone has to have a fill to have the band help them lose weight and it sounds like you are one of the lucky one. On the other you had surgery and never went back for a post-op appointment? I would suggest that is a mistake, the after care of the band is as important as the band itself. IMHO
BTW, filling in your profile helps when you ask questions. Good luck on your continued journey.

Cazzy got a reaction from dee_jo in Sagging skin
My plastic surgeon told me there was no exercise that could get rid of sagging skin, preventing it relies on slow weight loss, moisturising, keeping hydrated, keeping fit and filling some of the void with muscle tone etc and just normal good skin care. To be honest sagging skin is more a result of hormones, genetics, age and amount of weight you have to lose.
The younger you are the more chance you stand of not getting saggy skin, but its a lottery even then, I had all my saggy skin removed in a total of 28 hours surgery over 3 operations, there was nothing i could do to prevent the saggy skin so i had it removed surgically.

I don't recall vacillating back and forth before surgery simply because I knew the WLS was my only option to get healthy again. I knew for a fact that dieting wouldn't work so this was my only option. Be sure you've closed all other doors before you open this one and walk through.

Cazzy reacted to 2muchfun in Did you ever dislike your band?
Me too. I sometimes have a love/hate relationship but that's just because sometimes our stomach lining swells and makes eating a little more challenging.
One thing that most newbies don't hear often is, some people cannot give up their addiction to food and it's so much easier to blame the band than take responsibility for their own failure to follow the rules and eat healthy sensible foods. There's probably not a day that doesn't go by that someone isn't crying for help here on this site, due to their lack of willpower to stop eating chocolate or ice cream or you name your favorite fattening food? Or, their inability to eat small bites and chew properly? And it's so much easier to eat slider foods like milk shakes, chips, soda pop, cake, lasagna, fried foods. Many of these folks find reasons to hate the band simply because they cannot give up the foods they love.
There are those who have other issues as well. Reflux, vomiting the band from it's original location(slip), band failure just to name a few of the other complications that can piss off anyone who spent $10K for surgery.

Cazzy got a reaction from DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in I need my band removed
The one thing we all need to be aware of is self diagnosing problems associated with the band, its an easy trap to fall into and often things are not what they seem.
You need to seek medical guidance as to what the problem is and its solution.
Congratulations on your weight loss, the last thing you want to do tho is to remove the band that helped your gastric bypass work better for you, i am assuming that you were unable to control your eating /hunger when you had the band fitted so seek the advice of a bariatric/gastro doctor and see what their advice is. Good luck !

Like the others said, no need to fret over calories until maybe 6 weeks out of surgery. Till then, heal yourself and how many calories you consume is irrelevent as long as you don't go hog wild and eat too much.

Might be an idea to put a pillow either side of you when u are sleeping, this will stop u turning over in your sleep, till u are fully healed and can sleep on your tummy without any problems, I do agree tho a quick phone call to the doctors cant hurt

Cazzy got a reaction from herestoanewme in Almost a year of giving up on my lap band, now I want to start my journey again?
Its such a shame that you put yourself through this operation etc only to give up just 3 weeks after you were banded. I suggest a visit back to your surgeon and discuss whats happened, bite the bullet and just make that appointment, if you are serious u want to give this another shot, you need to jump through a few hoops again to get back on track. Good luck with it, not everyone is successful the first time, its just like trying to give up smoking, some will manage it some not the first time. Its not that you didnt manage first go at it, its what u do next thats important . good luck.

Cazzy got a reaction from marketingdude in Anybody just wake up (from a sound sleep) gasping for air post surgery?
I understand grabbing onto every lb loss when its been slow for you, just read all that are possibilities that 'could' happen and if u are happy with things the way they are then keep up the good work. Your band will probably loosen a tad anyways if u carry on losing weight as quick as what you are I would consider a trip to the doctors tho if u keep getting problems

I would try contacting the centre and asking if there is one of the bariatric nurses there who might consider doing fills on a private basis or is willing to continue to give support, afterall the staff if they are losing their jobs will need to get jobs elsewhere.. just an idea

Hmmm that doesnt sound good, I am not sure what u can do other than phone every health governing body where u are to find out what can be done. I now in the Uk we have area health governing bodies that oversee all medical facilities i am sure Canada must have something similar. Just do what you can, its all u can do for now ... sorry to hear about your troubles tho.
