Unrealistic Weight Goal ??
I knew about this 60% average weight loss before i chose to have the lap band, as far as i am concerned 60 % of my excess body weight was still miles from where i started off, for relatively minor sugery those averages i think are good. I was watching Biggest loser last night on tv, another failed gastric bypass contestant is on , thats the second one ive seen on biggest loser at least. To go through all that major surgery and fail is by far bigger step than a lap band as far as i am concerned .. for me i was determined to beat the averages and i have, along with a good few others on this forum.

Surgery January 30 In Toronto
Stick to what your nutritionist says we all get told different pre-op diets mine was protein and veggies too, but that protein also included yoghurt 0 fat of course, not much of it tho ! most pre-op diets are about shrinking the liver so the stomach can be accessed more easily during surgery. Might be worth a phone and asking your nutritionist if u need to get some more ideas ! good luck ...

Throwing Up And Often
I cant eat scrambled eggs at all, no matter what time of day, so i dont eat them. I always start off by having tea or coffee when i first wake up and will only attempt to eat at least 45 mins later, hot drinks seem to relax the band first thing in the morning for some of us.

How Long Did You Fill Take To 'kick In.'
Well everyone is different but i would say that on average you wont feel much restriction till u get some more fills in, some never need a fill, some only a couple and others it can be 4 or 5 fills, just bear with it i am sure it will all work out

How Long Did You Fill Take To 'kick In.'
Well hopefully u will feel it kick in soonish, but u didnt mention what fill this was, my initial fills i never really felt them kick in at all till i hit the 4th fill

For Those Of You Who Are A Slave To The Scale: Some Advice!
I weigh every day but only record the weight once a week. I use the scales to motivate me too, if i am a 1lb heavier i work even harder that day. To me its like when i was diabetic and not monitoring my sugar levels. We are all different tho and we all handle our way of dealing with this in our own way is a good idea tho !

Anyone Have An Explanation???
Just to add another angle someone on the forum mentioned about atmospheric pressure from the weather affected them, might be worth noting if its high pressure or low pressure ...

How Long Did You Fill Take To 'kick In.'
My fills take between 2 to 3 weeks but i would have thought 4 weeks was possible. Are u not confident he knows what he's talking about ?

Self Pay - Should I Travel To A Different State To Find Cheaper Procedure?
Im not in the US but common sense would say stick to local if possible. What u could do is investigate fill doctors in your area so if u ended up going out of state u have a fill doctor local to you, also phone around and find other centres and see what their costings are. It might be less expensive if you dont need any of the before hoops that insurance pay makes u jump through. In the uk we see the sugeon book a date and set to with the nutritionist. Many self pay in the UK travel to belgium for surgery, theres no guarantee's of problem free wherever u go. If u feel confident u dont need all the before stuff then try and find somewhere where u dont need to do that. I know others on here have gone for surgery 2 weeks after initial visits when they are self pay, its certainly worth exploring anyways You have to do whats right for u so good luck

Help. What Am I Doing Wrong?
It doesnt sound like u are doing anything wrong, but it might be u are slow in your metabolism kicking into gear, might be worth trying to add some of the metabolic foods like green tea, chilli, broccoli etc into your diet and see if that helps. It might also be that u need a few more or less calories a day, i know it sounds strange but sometimes a small increase or decrease can help, dont drastically change anything just tweek things and see if it makes a difference. I have chilli everyday as i dont have a fast metabolic rate, my partner can go to sleep and drop 3lbs just by sleeping, i am lucky if i drop 1lb we are all different but dont let it beat u, take the challenge and reseach things, eat at different times, drink more water etc, etc, you havent been banded long so it may just be your body rebelling over the food restrictions. Might be time for a fill too. When did you start to eat solid foods, its common for people to gain in this time too.

Rate Of Weight Loss
I am 7cc in a 14 cc band, i eat around 3 oz protein and a good portion of 2 green veg, i dont get hungry in between meals as the veg and protein last me around 4 hours. I lost around 14lbs a month with eating around 1000 calories a day and exercising every day, including cycling around 6 miles a day. Its been hard work to keep exercising but i have to otherwise i just dont lose weight .

What Are You Buying To Prep?

Unrealistic Weight Goal ??
The realism about your goal comes from the work you are willing to do to get to where u want to be, not from some other persons opinion. I love proving people like that guy wrong ! I am the biggest loser at the hospital i had my sugery in, thats my realism

Protein Shots
Might be just a general lack of essential Vitamins and minerals, u are already doing what u should it sounds lke, i would maybe get some Iron in from spinach and dark green veg etc. Iron directly affects our blood and that can be responsible for feeling tired and listless .. all 0 fat milk products like skimmed milk, cottage cheese and yoghurt have good Protein - calorie balances maybe add a snack or 2 during the day to top up on your Proteins. I would try the iron first tho as green veg doesnt hold many calories at all Just as a foot note, sometimes we are tired because we are doing a lot more than we used to !

Extra Skin And Depression
I think we need a special club for all of us who carry this 'battle scar' around with us, as u can imagine with the amount of weight i have lost i am carrying another persons skin with me, i dislike it intensly but i would rather loose skin than it be filled again. The things that annoy is my legs, i hate my legs, my tummy i can hide but omg legs look awful, so i wont go swimming and i wont wear shorts thank god for spandex lol but i accept that it was a side effect. What gets me most tho is my face, when i was heavy the round face made me look younger, now i see a thin face, with lines showing and i feel old i know i am getting old, but facially i never felt it before, sigh but as the scales reduce my happiness comes from within, i know the skin is surface deep but its not as important as what i feel inside so i will sort it out gradually as and when i can afford it but till i can i do what i can to live with it

Mrsa In Port Area
What a nightmare for you, mrsa is so hard to get rid of, is your doctor recommending taking the port out ? Might be an idea to try and see where the infection came from .. i.e at home, or you or the hosptial, it will be hard to clear it up if u are still exposed to it. MRSA is rampant here in the UK, so i was swabbed down for samples on the pre-op visit before i got anywhere near being operated on. Make sure u shower using one of the anti-bacterial/anti-virus scrubs that they use in hospital. It should eventually be got rid of by dilligence and drugs. Speak to your doctor about whether the port will need to removed or moved etc. I wish you luck with it ...

starting BMI over 50? come on in!
My BMI was 68 when i asked for band surgery, i was told i would have to get down to 60 bmi before they felt safe to operate. I did 600 calories for over 2 months and got down to a bmi if 61, was operated on fine and had no problems since. Never touched a protein shake, just good old fresh healthy food and no fat to shrink my liver.. worked fine You might have to travel further away to get a doctor to accept your bmi level if not just lose the 20lbs if u can .. good luck...
