Hi folks... I too am an August Bandster....woo hoo...same feelings of nervousness but overall super happy! I found out just today that I have was approved and that I will be banded on Tuesday, August 16th...

Believe it or not (in my case) the insurance company felt terrible for me bc I kept calling them to see if the office had faxed them my information. My case manager at bcbs was the one that went out of her way to call me and congratulate me personally. We got to know each other through this process. The nice thing was that I became a person, a name and not a case number. I love bcbs they helped me more than the office staff did.

Yesssss! Sorry if I drove anyone crazy but I felt crazy, lol, having to wait from july 20th until today...to get my surgeons office to send my info to bcbs! Today, I told my surgeon that I was looking for a different surgeon and ... an hour later I received flowers at my door, an hour after that I got an apology and a penciled in date and an hour after that I got an approval Tuesday...the 16th of August So happy but so scared bit more happy...thanks for all the support and advice

Long story short... I started this journey early June...took care of every single thing (nut, ekg, psych, pulmo, pcp, letters...)by July 20th. Today is August 11th and my insurance co. has not received the necessary information from surgeons office. In fact bcbs told me today that's they called amd left messages to my surgeons office on august 3rd and 10th...to remind the office staff to fax over the necessary paperwork to starts pre-certification process and my casemanager told me that's they have not even returned her calls. I have talked to the staff, the surgeon.... I have done all I could. Im so so sad Today I decided to start this process again with a different surgeon. I called around and found 2 surgeons in my area.The truth is that I dont know if I even want to do this all over again, now...I might wait a few months. Perhaps I have issues ...because I feel rejected by my surgeon... Im a little crushed...if surgeons want $$$, how terrible is it that my $$$ is not good enough....just heartbroken

My surgeon called today to assure me that they are still working with the insurance company and that I should have an approval soon...I asked him when he wanted me to starts my liquid diet and he told me that he doesn't require a preop diet..... Every story and journey that I have read about on this forum...people talk about the liquid... I prepared myself for it...I even bought the magic bullet, lol ...im not mad just taken by surprise. My surgeon says that he only asks people who are severely over weight to lose?? I thought I was severely overweight...bmi 43? Well....happy I dont have to but curious, has anyone else been told not to do it? Hmmmm...

Just tuned on bc I found the topic interesting and something I'd like to get eventually...all the experiences I've read on this topic have been eye opening...I feel like I know you guys... Goodluck with everything...keep posting and feel better...

Just be glad you're out of there...Lol....wow...I guess that in todays world of crazy people they couldn't have just taken your word for it, lol! Little don they know that we loved food and are trying to down the right and healthy thing! Have you every had ensure...wonder if it's good? What protein shakes are you drinking? Are they good...

Im still waiting for the insurance approval and so last night I decided heck why not go to the cheescake factory and enjoy a banana cream cheesecake....after reading your post...I feel extremely guilty. Your post made me think, reflect and it put things into perspective for me. Just because I do not have a date yet doesn't mean that I should eat carelessly and shouldn't start living a healthier life. I remember very very long ago..when a few crackers and a hard boiled egg used to keep me satisfied... Im glad you reflected...and posted it...it made me think and it inspired me...good luck with your journey and keep us posted

Yes....get excited! Call Aetna and confirm....insurance companies usually send you a confirmation.

You still have some time until surgery. Focus on getting better. Positive and happy thoughts only :-) Im sure you will be okay for surgery.

Congratulations!! Im hoping to join you as an August Bandster... I can relate to you in terms of people "getting around" to things. The diffrence for me is that its my surgeons office holding things up! My insurance co. has been nothing but caring, helpful and super professional. My surgeons office keeps on giving me the run around. I finished all the necessary paperwork only to here from surgeons office..."we sent info to bcbs, the person who works with insurance is on vacation and will not be back until August 9th, the other person is in the hospital and the one thats in the office now is overwhelmed, if you call insurance co on Tuesday they will show the claim, im missing numbers that they need, we arent used to your ins co.". Excuse after excuse...you guys are all lucky to have such wonderful office staff for you surgeon. Like you I was steaming and could feel the smoke coming out my ears....lately I have been thinking of either staying this way (fat, pleasantly plump, morbidly obese...) or try a different surgeon. Good luck on your surgery. Keep us posted. Hopefully I will join your soon

A little update... I couldn't wait till Monday and so I called the office and asked for Bethanne on Friday...I was told (by Janice) that Bethanne is on vacation and will not be back until August 9th??? Janice told me that if I have any questions or problems I would have to wait for Bethanne to come back from vacation!! I told Janice that I needed to speak to the doctor immediately...she said that he was going to be in surgeries all day and he would not be able to speak with him. I told Janice that he can call me today (friday) after surgeries or over the weekend but that it is important that I speak to him soon. We hung up the phone and I felt good! Less then an hour later my phone rings and its Janice...she didn't want me to have to wait the entire weekend w/out talking to the doctor (hmmmm) so she decided to talk to him on my behalf?? Janice said that if I speak to the insurance company on Tuesday that she is sure they would have my claim on file. She said the doctor gave her permission to re-submit my claim again?? I told her that I appreciate it...that I still want to speak to the doctor and that I will call insurance co. and look forward to the good news on Tuesday! YEAH baby! Soooooo...the doctor lit some fire under their butts, lol...thanks again for all the support and suggestions...so happy.
