  1. Liquid tylenol. I was told not to take any aspirin or other N-Saids because they can harm the pouch.
  2. I'm 10 days postop. I was supposed to be moved from liquids to mushies 7 days after surgery, but my one week check up was postponed until Tuesday. I have been cheating a bit with some soft foods like smooth yogurt in lieu of one of my protein shakes.
  3. My doc's insurance coordinator requested my psp's treatment notes for the past year, which included the 9 months that I was on Adipex. The monthly weigh-ins and follow up for the Adipex were sufficient for my BCBS plan to approve the surgery, using that time frame as my "medically supervised" diet.
  4. Have you tried putting in a cup with a lid, like a travel coffee mug, so the smell is blocked? One of my variations is to add orange extract to the vanilla powder - when I make that flavor, I smell the orange rather than the protein.
  5. My instructions say 60 to 80 grams of protein per day, not 600 to 800! I had surgery on 10/28/11 and I am still on the postop liquids. (I was on the same diet for two weeks before surgery too - protein shakes are getting very tiresome.)
  6. I have five incisions. My port site (to the left of my belly button) and my belly button incision still hurt at times. I think the belly button site hurts because of scar tissue from 3 prior laparoscopic procedures. My poor belly button
  7. My doc said that they didn't design these programs to test their patients or to torture them, but they designed them to keep us safe for the surgery and to encourage the best healing possible after surgery. But I will admit that I cheated during the past two days - I had a smooth yogurt for dinner yesterday (no fruit pieces at all) and a pureed cream Soup today.
  8. I found the post that lists all of the samples to request. I surprised at how many companies were willing to send samples. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/131238-samples-samples-samples/page__p__1645901__hl__protein+samples__fromsearch__1#entry1645901
  9. Congrats! Order a few sample packs of Protein powders to try them now. Jay Robb and unjury both will send a sample pack that includes single serving sizes of each of their flavors. There also is a thread somewhere on this board regarding requesting samples. I emailed several companies and they sent me samples and coupons in the mail. Good luck on your journey to good health.
  10. I have told very few people. My husband, my mom, my cousin, my boss, and three friends (one of whom was banded in December of last year). My mother told my step-aunt, who I suspect has told everyone and anyone. I not keeping it a secret, but I'm also not announcing it on Facebook.
  11. What were your doctor's instructions? My doc required a two week liquid diet - 3 Protein shakes per day and 64 ounces of Clear liquids. I could also have sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles. My friend (different doctor in another state) was told 2 Protein Shakes per day and one lean cuisine meal. I found lots of ways of making the protein shakes more interesting. Adding crystal light powder, unsweetened cocoa, various extracts. A scoop of vanilla Protein Powder, tablespoon of cocoa, half a pack of Starbucks Via, 8 ounces almond milk and 5 ice cubes in a blender = great substitute for a frappachino. Good luck on your journey.
  12. I am so jealous. We were banded the same day, but I don't see my doc until Tuesday. I was told that I can't advance my diet until after I see him. I am sooooo tired of protein shakes; I have been living on nothing but them for three weeks.
  13. Congrats! Good luck on your lap band journey.
  14. I am 5 days post op and still on an all liquid diet. (have been since 2 weeks before surgery) 3 Protein shakes per day and 64 ounces of sugar free, caffeine free liquids. I tried to go to bed and as soon as I laid down, I started feeling that familiar feeling burning rising up and landing just behind my breastbone. I did two things differently today. I added some Peanut Butter to my shake. I also had several "Crystal Light" hard candies (which are sweetened with sorbitol). I am on a PPI (Prevacid) and I have been for about 5 months. I took it today (emptied the capsule into some sugar-free Jello and ate it, per my doc's suggestion). Any thoughts on what could be causing heartburn? My usual triggers are overeating, wine, beer, tomato sauce and very spicy food. All of which I cut out of my diet nearly 5 months ago.
  15. I am five days post-op. My doctor said two weeks, but I could have gone to work yesterday. (I have a sedentary job and co-workers that are willing to carry files for me.) My employer won't allow me to return until the two weeks have elapsed because my doc specified two weeks in the letter I had to submit before surgery. I go to my doc for the post-op follow up on Tues (11 days after the surgery). At that time, I will ask him to give me written clearance to return to work.
  16. I wish I had more to offer than to just wish you luck and keep my fingers crossed for you.
  17. From all of the horror stories I have heard regarding being too full, even if it is included in the surgery cost, I would pass on a fill that I didn't need. Of course, I am only 5 days post op, so take my opinion as based on research only, not experience.
  18. A good use for leftover Halloween candy: If you don't know what to do with all that left over Halloween Candy, send it to us and we will get it over to our troops! Every year we go through tons of candy that we send to our troops and would be happy to have your left overs! Our mailing address is: Operation Shoebox 8360 E Highway 25 Belleview, FL 34420
  19. I don't have kids, but my hubby has been so considerate. He has been eating a lot of cereal, sandwiches, and salads so I don't smell food cooking. Ask your family to help you and I'm sure that they will. Good luck with the preop diet.
  20. I was banded on the same day. I wish I had a magic trick for clearing out the gas.
  21. I have been walking around the house and trying to do stuff too. Make sure she doesn't lift anything.
  22. It would probably be better for you to reschedule the surgery for a few weeks from now. Start the preop diet again and stick to it. The preop diet is tough, but my doctor said they didn't design the program to be mean. They designs the programs to keep you safe. If your liver isn't small enough, he may not be able to perform the surgery. If that happens, you will have been subjected to all of the risks of surgery (general anesthesia, blood clots, pneumonia developing from the anesthesia, and incisions cut into your body) for absolutely nothing. I am only 4 days post-op. My surgeon's instructions are 3 Protein shakes and sugar-free liquids (which was the same as my two week preop diet). Although I'm not hungry, I really want to CHEW something. I know that I can't because I have to allow my stomach to heal. You said that you somewhat followed your preop diet. After surgery, if you only somewhat follow the instructions, you can really hurt yourself and your band. Good luck with your journey.
  23. Let us know how she is doing. I am just a few days ahead of her, I had my surgery on the 28th.
  24. Congrats on all of the approvals, especially my fellow Feds. I had a BMI of 36.9 and co-morbidities of sleep apnea, pre-diabetes, bordyerline HBP, and GERD. My doc submitted to FEHB BCBS on a Wednesday and I was approved on a Monday.
