  1. How much were you drinking during the day? My preop diet was 3 protein shakes and 64 ounces of other, non-carbonated sugar free liquids. I was allowed sugar free popsicles and jello. One night I ate two boxes of jello. The liquids did help to keep the hunger at bay.

  3. If you are using insurance and if there is any chance that your policy may change on Jan 1, 2012, I would get the surgery done as soon as you can. Many companies are looking for ways to save money on health insurance costs and deleting coverage for WLS is one of the most common cost savers.
  4. Unflavored protein powder is not flavorless - I wish it was. But it is better than Isopure.
  5. Welcome to the forum! I was banded at Cleveland Clinic FL on Friday. After researching WLS and thinking about it for so long, it feels odd to say that. My surgery went very well. I spent one night in the hospital, which is standard for my surgeon and came home yesterday afternoon. Good luck with your lap band journey!
  6. What a great post. I'm only two days post op and I hope to be like you, a success.
  7. I was told not to hesitate to call and speak to the bariatric nurses at any time. If you are still uncomfortable tomorrow, call your surgeon's nurse.
  8. Good luck tomorrow. I'm 2 days post op. I'm sure you will do fine.
  9. Welcome to the board. I'm getting banded on Friday! I'm so excited (and a little nervous). Where in Florida are you? I'm in the Ft. Lauderdale Area. Good luck in your journey to good health.
  10. My surgery is Friday. My pre-op diet has been 3 protein shakes a day. I can also have sugar free jello and popsicles.
  11. I had no program fee at all. Everything has been covered by my health insurance, except for the nutritionist visit. They charged $325 for the initial nutrition class. If insurance required a supervised diet, the nutritionist would do the monitoring for no additional charge.
  12. I'm getting banded on Friday and I am excited. This year, I won't gain 10 lbs during the holidays. With a little help from my band, I will finally lose the weight and KEEP IT OFF.
  13. I'm on day nine of my pre-op diet. I can have three Protein shakes per day and unlimited sugar free liquids, which includes chicken, beef or vegetable bullion, sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles. I can prepare my shakes with Water, 1% milk, skim milk, soy milk or almond milk. If you have the option, use milk instead of water. Drink something constantly. One evening, I was really, really, really hungry and I added about a tablespoon of Peanut Butter to my Protein shake. I also licked the spoon and it was soooooo good. Good luck. Just remember the pre-op diet is just a short time period and it is the beginning of a new and healthy life.
  14. I haven't been banded yet, but one thing I have learned is that you must be willing to work with band to lose the weight. If I had any doubts, I would back out as well. Getting this close to surgery and putting a stop to it took quite a bit of courage. I'm sure that you will find the right solution for you. good luck!
  15. Congrats!
  16. Sharing as much as you can with your medical professionals is always in your best interest. I'm happy that you were able to do that and that your nutritionist was understanding. This journey is all about becoming as healthy as you can be.
  17. I'm envious of you folks. I am on day 4 of my pre-op diet. 3 Protein shakes per day and at least 64 ounces of non-carbonated, non-caffeinated, and non-caloric liquids. I can also have sugar-free Jello, sugar free popsicles, and no sugar added fudge-sicles. The first three days weren't too bad. Today has been awful - two of my office mates had lunch at their desks, so I was treated to the tempting aromas from their pizza and Chinese food. I cheated a bit with my dinner smoothie; I added a tablespoon of Peanut Butter and a table spoon of cocoa. It was delish! Nine more days of smoothies, then one day of Clear Liquids and finally, surgery !
  18. Definitely call your doc and see if you can progress to full liquids. Also, have you tried any of the clear liquid Protein drinks? You can find them at GNC, Vitamin Shoppe and I'm sure other places. I have only tried one and I didn't like it all. The brand was Iso... something in the fruit punch flavor. I would think that you would feel a lot better if you had some protein to nourish your body. Good luck!
  19. 1. Not being the fattest person in the office. 2. Finishing the two week liquids only pre-op diet. I'm not hungry, but after only three days, I am sick of the protein after taste/coating on my tongue. 3. Being able to throw away several of my 'go-to' items of clothing. I'm sure we all have those items - the ones that are reasonably flattering and are wearing out, but they are irreplaceable. 4. Learning how small of an amount of food will satisfy me. 5. Joining the people that walk, jog and run around the lake in my community. (I won't now because I'd feel too self conscious.) 6. Going back to the area where I grew up to see old friends. I have missed reunions, turned down invitations and made so many excuses to avoid seeing people because of my weight. more to come as I think of them . . .
  20. I am having my surgery at Cleveland Clinic in Weston, FL. I was required to attend a nutrition seminar which covered all of the diet information for each stage: pre-op and then 5 stages after (Clear liquids, full liquids, mushy, solid Protein, Proteins and veggies, and then regular diet.) During the seminar, I was given also given regimen of Vitamins to take, exercise recommendations to go with each stage of the diet plan and an extensive list of options for protein supplements. They also gave us a book with all of the information they went over during the group nutrition meeting. I'd check with your surgeon's office to see if they have something similar. I would think that Memorial Regional's program would be similar to Cleveland Clinic. From reading these boards, it seems that most surgeons have different requirements, so it is hard to make recommendations. Regarding Protein shakes, so far, I like Jay Robb protein the best. I also like Muscle Milk 100% whey vanilla (from Costco).
  21. I researched all of the procedures and decided that both sleeve and bypass are just too drastic for me to seriously consider. I am in my early 40's and I hope to have least 40 more years on this planet. As my great aunt aged, she had a lot of issues with nutrition because of diminished appetite. If she had undergone a WLS in her 40's that resulted in malabsorbtion, I suspect that she would have died much younger than 93. I am getting a band because I want to live a long and healthy life. As I researched all of the available options, both the band and bypass seemed counterproductive to that goal. Good luck your decision.
  22. Glad to hear that you were able to keep your band. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
  23. Good luck. I hope you get approved quickly.
