  1. I had a hard time. I tried very hard but within the first few days, lost 5 pounds. Being at goal weight already, that is a lot to lose. That sounds good but I think it was because I was severely dehydrated. Try as hard as I might, I could not get enough liquid down. I tried staying up all night for the first few days but could only manage about 1 to 2 cups of water or other liquids. I was only getting in about 400 to 600 calories in each night too. I had the shakes and sweat terribly at work. 2 nights ago my husband asked me to stop. He could see that I was making myself sick. He was very alarmed when I didn't want to eat when it was time to break fast. I had to force myself and even then, I was only able to eat a few bites at most. Good news is that my stomach snapped back to my just post surgery size from 3 years ago. Bad news is that I need more than 600 calories to be able to function at my physically demanding job now and the 16 oz of liquid is not enough either. My plan now is to hold off on fasting until the shorter winter days and try again. For those who are able to do it, my hats off to you. For now, I hope Allah understands my hardship and will accept my later fastings.

    Dallas area sleeve?

I'm in rowlett too. I am 3 years post op and would love to make a few new sleeved friends
  3. Yes. I am doing the sipping schedule. It still is hard. I don't get a chance to sleep during the day and am getting small naps during the night so that I can try and get my liquids in. 40 oz last night was good for me. I don't think I could put anymore in. I ended up with a hurting stomach because it was so full. I think tonight, instead of eating solid foods, I may do a Protein shake with some extra flax for Fiber. I was called into work today so it will really be a challenge for me. I planned to not fast on working days but since I was already fasting today, I will keep on. I just told them to not expect too much from me today.
  4. We have been married for 20 years so this isn't my first time experiencing Ramadan and I have fasted a day here and a day there in the past but this is the first year I have wanted to. I believe that God gives us all challenges to help us grow in this life and that food is the biggest one he gave me. I guess that is why I feel more called to fast this year. I have decides that I will not fast on the days that I have to work. I become dehydrated on those days anyway so I know fasting and then lifting and stocking 120 plus boxes will be dangerous. Yesterday was hard. After breaking fast the night before, i found my stomach had shrunk drastically and I was only able to eat about 1/2 cup of food. I was only able to get down about 20oz of liquid too and that was after waking several times in the night to drink. So that was all I had to go on all day yesterday. I didn't want to fast from the moment I woke and had to constantly remind myself that I could do it. Staying busy helps a lot. I was able to get down 45 oz last night and had a half of chicken thigh, some rice, and an egg for Breakfast. I feel stronger today. Blessings to you and your family.

  6. I have not converted to Islam as of yet though I am leaning toward it. It is a decision that I do not take lightly. My husband is Muslim and is fasting and I support him 100% but after learning the reasons Allah asks us to fast, I am called to the challenge. That being said, I am 3 years out and fasted yesterday. The food part was rather easy except for around 6 when my husband started making dinner. I had to leave the house because the smell made my stomach hurt from hunger. Now the fluid intake, that is really really hard. Even when not fasting, I still struggle getting enough in. 16 hours in a day in 102 of Texas heat is tough. I think about those who do not have easy access to food and drink and how hard their lives must be and use that to motivate my mind. My biggest concern is my job. I work 3 days a week in a hot building doing very physically demanding work and I don't know if I can do it and refrain from fluid without making myself sick. I am leaning toward choosing not to fast on those days and either making it up later or feeding someone for those days. I would love to hear what others thing on this.
  7. Thanks for the offer but I am in 14s and slowly inching my way into 12s now
  8. I admit there were a few times when it was hard. I wanted to eat more but could only get a few bits in. However, loosing weight so quickly and seeing the changes in my body definitely balanced it out. Mental eating can be killer!
  9. I honestly don't remember. I drank wine once several years ago and it made me quite drunk so I avoid it at all cost (I had 1/2 a glass) but I do remember some of the people talking about it in our nutrition class and I know it is done. As to how far out, I guess that depends on you. I would ask that at the next class you go to.
  10. Yes he was. Feel free to ask anything. I am sure you are getting excited and maybe a little anxious.

    Dr. James Davidson

I replied to you on another post I think but no to all 3 but I never had an issue with nausea so that was not an issue. Come to think of it, if I had a catheter, I would not have known...Good luck with it all. Once you get through the first few months, you will wonder why you waited so long!
  12. I don't remember a catheter and I know I did not have a drain but I am sure everyone is different. If you have fears, talk to them about it first. As for meds for nausea, I am sure they can help you with that though I did not have any issues with that at all. I am over a year out now and it has been wonderful. Best of luck to you.

    Dr. James Davidson

He was my Doctor and I had a great experience. They give really good support and the nutrition classes are informational and fun...at least my group was. I had an issue with one of the major office personal but I did not have to deal with that person much so it was something I could let go. Sandi was great. The doctor is a rather...stiff kind of military guy but he is one hell of a surgeon. The surgery center was beyond wonderful. The staff there was top notch and I felt so cared for. I opted to leave the next day and if I had to do it again, I would stay the extra day. Pain was very minimal but I did have an issue about 2 weeks out when the scar tissue grew around my nerves. It was terribly painful and lasted for 2 weeks with next to nothing to be done for it. Once I pushed through that, I was good. I am more than a year out and I have lost 91 pounds. I would not do anything different except to do it many years sooner.
  14. I was sleeved last June and have since lost over 80 pounds. I still have 20-50 left to go (depending on how I look and feel when I get there) but I have hit a plateau and am confused. For the last several weeks (maybe longer) I have been bouncing around between 169 and 173. I decided to really faithfully track my calories to have a better understanding of what was really going into my body. The results amazed me. My average is about 800 but it can vary anywhere from 500-1300. Funny how things change. The days when I thought I was eating constantly, I was still eating low calories. I think my carbs are a bit high averaging around 80 grams but all from complex sources. My sugar intake is low and my fat...well, it can by a bit on the high side but no where near what I used to eat. I also started doing interval training 3-5 days a week at the gym. This is so fun to me because I can RUN!!! It ain't pretty but it is a run. And I have noticed that my leg muscles are really starting to built up. I am so proud of myself for this. I do include any exercise calories burned in my tracker. My theory is that my body has found the weight that it seems happy with. This might by my natural weigh...It is close to what it was in high school and everywhere I have read says that you body's happy weight occurs around that time. I hope this is all making sense. But I worry about the fact that I may not be eating enough. Maybe my body is in starvation mode and my metabolism is messed up or something. Should I just be more patient and keep on keeping on or am I missing something. How many calories is someone as far out as I am usually eating. I have been taking measurements and they are staying the same as well. I guess mostly I am just frustrated and need to hear from others that understand. I am thrilled to have gone from a size 26 to a 16 but I really don't want to stay a 16. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
  15. Hows it going Zephra? Hope all is good your end.
