Ibuprofen
Will she ever be off the feeding tube? I've heard stories like this before, and I don't want to take the chance of ulcers and having a feeding tube, so I think to play it safe I won't be taking ibuprofen anymore regardless of what some dr's say. (although not being able to have NSAIDS scares me!)

Will be sleeved in 2.5 weeks... Can someone share their experiences?
I will be sleeved in 2.5 weeks, and I am facing a lot of anxiety about it. At first I had questions whether I was doing the right thing or not. But after reading post of post-op success stories and how it changes someone's life (I cannot tell you how many people said it's been the best decision they've ever made), I feel a little more at ease. My questions: How many of you had a bad experience post op (maybe with being sick or other issues) and now LOOKING BACK can say it is the best thing they did? I know there are some that had smooth-sailing surgeries and are happy with their success (AND I hope to be one of them), but in preparing myself for another reality, I would like to hear from those who had a difficult time at first but have passed through it and still think it's the best thing they did. I see some early post-surgery posts of people having a rough time, and I am feeling anxiety about it... just want some reassurance that it is worth the pain!

Ibuprofen
I always read conflicting info on NSAIDS (ibuprofen)... my doctor says I will NEVER be able to take it again post surgery and will have to get a medical alert bracelet stating that I cannot have NSAIDS, but I've seen a lot of people on the forums say their dr thought it was ok to take... dunno.

New to this forum
I am a Christian and glad to find a forum for fellow believers. I am due to get my VSG on July 29 and have struggled whether this is the right step spiritually. But I feel like I have a peace about it right now and that things have progressed very smoothly... Things really seem to be just falling into place pretty much effortlessly. For that, I give God the glory. Anyway, I am a wife and a mother of 1 (so far - 12+ years of infertility to have our first son). Looking forward to getting to know more of you as this journey progresses!

Thanks for taking time to post this for us newbie people

How do you gain?
good question... I always wondered the same thing :-)

Celery question
I never knew you weren't allowed to have it... first time I seen it mentioned. I haven't had mine yet, but I've done mandatory online classes and meeting with NUT and they never mentioned it yet. Maybe they will at my preop next week? Thanks for the post.

Success story
It's normal to want to put someone in their place who may always be saying mean things... The difference between you and her is that you feel bad for doing it afterwards; you have a conscience. Always take the high road. She sounds very insecure and clueless. Don't stoop to her level; just know in your heart that you are the better person for being the nicer person

need help/advice please!!
OMGoodness I had kidney stones once before - the pain was unbearable and I couldn't stop vomiting; they had to give me medicine to control the vomiting. I cannot imagine what you are going through. I would definitely use public assistance and go see a dr or go to hsp. It cannot be good for your healing process to keep vomiting - could be dangerous.

Pre-op Diet... Phase 1
I don't start my liquid diet until July 15 and then on it for 10 days. I like protein drinks... I know weird. lol I feel badly for those who cannot stand the protein drinks! Good luck - it will all be worth it in the end! Hang in there!

Pre-op Diet... Phase 1
KathyD49 Thanks so much for your post. It's nice to get glimpses of what it will be like after surgery! I had croutons in my salad for lunch yesterday, but I figured it was so minimal that it couldn't have been too bad? Yeah, carbs are a hard one for me... I do like the proteins portion though! lol Love steak and chicken! But, I am like you, I love carbs! I look forward to a day when my thought process of food is different. For now, I am just trying to make it through this holiday weekend... My sister makes a really great pasta salad that I cannot have (but have been craving!), and so she said she was going to make chicken salad instead so I wouldn't be tempted. Such a sweet gesture...Thanks again for your post!

Pre-op Diet... Phase 1
These were the phase one diet instructions given to me from my doctor office: 1. Cut meal portions in half 2. No starches or simple sugars: no breads, pasta, rice, candy, or other sweets. This includes cereal, bagels, oatmeal, granola bars and anything made of grains. 3. Eat lean proteins: chicken, fish, beef, pork, eggs 4. Have a fresh fruit or vegetable with every meal. 5. Consume 2-3 serving of dairy per day: low fat milk or low fat yogurt only 6. Exercise at least five (5) days per week. Increase the intensity and time every week. You may start with a brisk walk or swimming and increase by 10 minutes each week. Well, I certainly have not been perfect during this time. I've run into a little issue with eating absolutely no carbs. Although when I do have a carb, I have chosen healthy ones (eg a wheat wrap or fiber bar) - it's more of the fact that I forget and then remember afterwards I cannot eat it. KWIM? But, still I need to completely cut them. I can say, however, that as the last week and a half has progressed, I find that I am getting better and thinking more about my choices and feel like I've improved. I have already dropped 9 pounds as of this morning. I need to lose 6 more pounds before surgery, but I am sure this will not be a problem. Especially since I still have my phase 2 diet starting on July 15 (2 weeks liquid diet before surgery). So although I have had a couple cheats with the carbs, I have made good carb choices at least. And, the longer I am on phase one of the diet, the more I have been sticking to it - which gives me hope that I can stick to the strick guidelines after surgery. I am ready for this... with the exception of a few lingering fears that I hope to ease through researching this site and ease when I talk to the doctor at preop appt on July 14. Goal for today... Remember not to eat any carbs!

Zumba and other stuff...
This was my second Friday out on the zumba floor. Seriously, why do I continue to humiliate myself? Firstly, I am not a coordinated person when it comes to dance or the like. Secondly, I have issues with my knees. Thirdly, my weight makes it hard to jump and keep up. I am pretty sure I looked like a drunk (overweight) monkey out there. I wonder if I will ever get it? I suppose I will try again next week. I really do feel stupid each time though. And, this is the basic zumba. I cannot even imagine what an advanced class is like. I did get a good work out both times I went. I also walked a mile today pushing my son in his stroller. It took me alittle under 20 minutes. The Florida heat and humidity outside were horrible. I wasn't sure if I'd make it through. I think I will do my walking at night from now on. I did well on my preop Phase 1 diet today. Protein shake for breakfast and a vitamin, chicken and salad for lunch, Protein and veggies for dinner, and a yogurt for snack. I've been drinking water but should probably be getting in more. I also need to remember to take another vitamin... the second one of the day is hard for me to remember. I think I will do some walking on my gazelle and then rest and spend time surfing OH boards :-) I am starting to feel a little down. Not sure if it's because of the food or that I am tired. Being an emotional eater, I have found that in the past, I tend to start getting down when I start a diet. It's like I am grieving the loss of the food. Sound weird? I noticed when I was eating dinner (and wanting something entirely different from what I was eating), I kept thinking to myself, "so this is it? This is what I have to look forward to?" It started getting me down. Surfing the OH boards and success stories should help me out of my funk a little ETA: Did 30 minutes on my Gazelle tonight :-)
