I just started today high protein no carb (low) for 10 days until my preop and then I think he's going to have me go liquid diet from the 7th to the 19th (surgery date), but I'm not sure. We will see! You can do it!

Hi Everyone! Sounds like we are going to have a great group! I'm going to put together a list of everyone by Thursday so we can start the count down. Also, does anyone have a great list of prerequisites for your day (a shopping list to have on hand when you get home from surgery, little hints for getting thru the first few days, etc?) I'm getting excited and apprehensive at the same time, but I know this is going to work!

Just to check out your vitals, make sure there have been no changes in your health that can affect the surgery-if you had a cold or were sick that would push your date back....

Mine is on September 19 too. Luck to us all! Preop date September 7.

Ok July Bandsters was a great success and I was so thrilled to watch everyone's progress and immediate results that I thought we should start a thread for September Bandsters to share I'm excited and yet apprehensive at the same time as I'm sure eveyrone has been. I start my presurgery diet next week (high Protein, low carb). I was only 37 BMI so they told me to hold off until I got approval! On September 7 is my preop. I also think that's the day I start the preop liquid diet? Feel free to add yourself and we'll keep track together! Winifred Sept 17

So I was all excited. The insurance company has approved the surgery. Then I talk to the scheduler and they forgot to tell me. The surgery center surgeries are only on Mondays. On Thursdays, they do their surgeries at the hospital. Shands Jacksonville. I've not heard good things about them as a hospital. But I don't have a lot of vacation days. I was planning to go in on Thursday and have the weekend to recuperate and be back at work on Monday or Tuesday - total 5 days recovery. If I go in on Monday, I have 5 days recovery but have to charge 5 days sick time. Does anyone have an opinion one way or the other! Help!

Of course there is. Remember, it's only been 3 weeks and you've lost 22 lbs. You're body has to reset for a few days to recover from such rapid weight loss. Just stay on target and you will see it start falling off again. I wouldn't recommend more than one fill a month! You're already getting there - hang in a few days longer.......

My doctor told me it is still an "investigational" study = not covered by insurance. The premise is that by folding over the stomach, you get the benefit of a gastric sleeve without the stapling or removing of the stomach. Since you have to wait until healing for your first fill, this is supposed to help with giving you a smaller stomach right away and speeds your short term weight loss. Also this helps with the being hungry until the first fill. I've opted to do it with my doctor and am waiting on a surgery date in September.

So could anyone provide a detailed description of the liquid diet? What to eat, how much and how often? Thanks

Could you be more specific? Just wondering if things haven't worked out the way you thought they would?

Hi, I'm also from Jacksonville. I'm looking at having the surgery in September. How did you feel about the plication? Are you more sore, did you have to stay out of work longer? They kind of sprung it on me at my appt. He said it was an "investigational" technique. Then when I talked to the psychologist, she said that insurance might not cover that. So I called Patti. She said yes it was an extra $800. I'm trying to determine if it is worth it. Would love to keep in touch.

Hi - have you heard or gastric plication? My lap band surgeon is recommending both. The lap band and the gastric plication. It is a fold over of the stomach with stiches (not staples). They don't cut out anything. It is a relatively new technique. He says that results show that you begin to lose weight quicker without the fills and then start with the fills and the combination gives much better results. Recovery time is the same as the band and they don't reroute anything. Theoretically they say it is reversable like the band. I have about 100 lbs to lose and am thinking about doing both....... Hey can someone explain the different stages of eating after? Looks like you have liquieds and then ful liquids and then mushies? My nutrition appt didn't cover this...... Thanks

It is a relatively new procedure where they fold over the stomach and put stiches in similar to a gastric sleeve. However they remove none of the stomach. The folding over is supposed to accomplish the same thing and supposedly helps with the restriction even before you start filling the band

So It's July 11th. How are you doing now 10 days later? Feeling ok to get out and about? Any issues? Very interested in hearing how things are going......

What is an LVT?

Ok, I'm looking at having this done in early september. The problem is I dont' have a lot of vacation/sick time available. I initially was thinking I could be back to work by day 7. My surgeon is talking lap band and gastric plication. But he also says 90% of the time he also has to repair a hernia. Could I realistically be back at work at day 7 with all that? Thanks for your comments.

Hi there. I am about to have the band and plication surgery. I will tell you that the feeling of never being full is an issue that was created by our society's excessive use of carbs. My doctor has recommended a book :Why we get fat" which explains a lot of this. I am still being banded but hope to use it as a tool to assist with the process.
