    PCOS

My daughter has PCOS,,,she's not banded (like me) but she is obese. She is 28, never used BC, had few occasional light periods. A friend told her that she read that taking metformin (a diabetes med) somehow allows PCOS er's to get pregnant. My daughter was not diabetic, but talked to her Doc, got a prescription,,,was pregnant 2 weeks later! I have a beautiful granddaughter that I thought I never would! (talk to you dr)!
  2. I got my band June 27th, 3 weeks later an appendectomy, so am finally feeling 'healed',,(still sore at port sight) noticed this week I can eat pretty much anything. I am suppose to be on 'mushies', but I knew if I stayed there I would certainly overeat,,,I wanted volume. I started eating salad (Dr's permission) did well,,could tolerate an awful lot though. Decided to call for a fill, I had been hoping to be 1 of those people who could get by without one for awhile because my port sight is still painful to touch. My doc was letting me decide when, especially since I had the 2nd abdominal surgery. Got an appt for today. Well, suffice to say I had a terrible night with food last night. My son went to a party, brought home pizza, cookies, cupcakes, I knew I had high tolerance, so next thing I know I was all up in it...nothing anyone could say could be worse than what I've said to myself. But today is a new day,,,Last night made it obvious I needed this fill. I had no nausea or vomiting, went down just like it used too,, SO! Today I berated myself all day,,almost didn't get the fill,,besides feeling like I didn't deserve it, I was scared of the pain. Also, I've never had 'stuck' episodes or vomiting,,and like everyone, am terrified. Well,,for those of you that feel that way,,GO! It didn't hurt (they numbed it)..and I feel like my 'fight' is back! I'm starting slow,,3 cc in an 11 cc realize band..I am tolerating fluids well...I have to do 48 h of fluids,,which, although I dread it,,will help me stabilize mentally. But I really just want to say,,,I think we all have weak moments, obviously,,that's what brought us here,,but the band doesn't let us just 'give up'..1 night like last night, and in the old days I was 'off my diet',,',give up' mode kicks in,,,and I would gain back all I lost. But here I am,,back after 1 bad episode,,,and I just want to thank everyone for the support and encouragement I read everyday on here. You are all an inspiration and when I feel alone in this journey it is great to have all of you to read about..thank you all. And I lost 6 more pounds! Down 25 lbs!

    Couldn't feel better...

I'm with you too! Banded June 27th, 1st fill scheduled for August 18th... I too am eating pretty much anything, it all goes down, so although I've had 1 or 2 bad days (eating too much) I am back in 'weight watcher' mode. 22 lbs down... Yay us! and good luck to you and roziecakes (and me too)!!
  4. My mother in law gave me a recipe for a smoothie, it sounded absolutely gross, so I ignored it. She insisted I try it, and since I have trouble getting in all my veggie and fruit servings, I did. It was delicious. Just try it! Let me know what you think! 1/2 cup plain greek yogart 2 tbsp splenda 2 tbsp fat free evaporated milk 1small banana (frozen when possible) 1 small peach (peeled and sliced) 2 strawberries 2 1/2 cups fresh bagged spinach 1/2 cup ice Blend until smoothie.... 14 grams protein! All your veggie/fruit serving for the day!

    My Ordeal with Appendicitis

Wow,,,I too had an appendectomy, 3 weeks after my lap band was placed,,,was curious as to whether there was a connection..I was lucky, just an overnight stay, but 2 surgeries in 3 weeks has been rough...can't wait to feel good again,,it's been 10 days since my appendectomy,,,on top of everything my navel wound became infected (I'm a wound nurse!) so I've wanted to climb out of my own skin,,,I better end up skinny after all this mess..lol ...I hope you are well,
  6. oops,,,how are you?? I havent talk to you in awhile,,but think of you often... have you had a fill yet? i was going to get one last wk,,but ended up with an emergency appendectomy so now they want to hold off, my f/u is Aug 18,,will get one then because i can eat most anything right now. I hope you are well.

  7. How about this for luck?? I had my lap band placed June 27th. On July 19th I worked 5 am to 4 pm. Then, took my daughter to the hospital for induced labor (3 wks overdue). Got her there about 6 pm, she was nervous, we played games, they weren't giving her pitocin (labor inducing drug) til the morning. I stayed til about 11 pm, drove 40 min. home, cleaned up the kitchen, fell asleep exhausted about 1 am. My daughter called at 4am, 'Mom, almost time to start pitocin, I'm nervous'. Jumped outta bed, noticed some abdominal pain (frequent constipation since band) washed face, brushed teeth, went to hospital. Things went as expected, labor progressed, as my daughter's pain increased, so did mine! Around noon, I took milk of mag, hoping it would help, instead pain turned horribly severe, I assumed impaction (I'm a nurse). I ignored and hid it, as my daughter was having her 1st child, she already has anxiety, and she was in increasing pain. This continued till July 20th around 2 am. She was dilating, 8 cm at this point, but baby wouldn't come down. They took her away for a c-section. Around 4 am, I got to see my 1st granddaughter! She's the love of my life. I tried to leave the hospital, but by now, as I walked out, I was sweating, doubled over in pain, feeling nauseous. I walked by the ER, thought, 'No one in waiting room,,can get a suppository and go home!' Mind you, I've not showered, sweaty from pain, 2 days without sleep...I go in and they put me on a cot (no pillow, no blanket), I fall asleep! I can barely function to answer questions (they gave me pain meds, I remember asking for a suppository)..they are running tests, I am still out of it. I dreamed that a handsome Doc told me he was admitting me for an emergency appendectomy. I finally woke around 11 am as they were wheeling me to the surgical floor,,I remember thinking, 'OMG! It wasn't a dream (My Surgeon really was terribly good-looking..lol)! Anyway, my family had no idea where I was,,I woke enough to call them, had my surgery around 6pm, so my appendix and my grandbaby have the same birthday...haha I'd love to see my H&P,,,disheveled, unwashed, barely coherent, possibly 'on something',,,lol So now I have 4 more laperscopic incisions to add to my 5 from lap band,,my belly looks like a peg board,,,but all is well! I was wondering if anyone else had an appendectomy after lap band? I dang sight better end up cute and skinny!!! lol

  9. I am 1 month post op and when i was 8 days (actually up to 3 weeks), I was crazy worried about my port site. It gets better. I would see others saying how great they felt, and I was still so sore at my port site I swore something was wrong. It does get better. Every one heals at a different pace. It will get better. I still have periodic port pain, but nothing like the 1st few weeks..hang in there and good luck!

    week three woes

I will have had my band for 3 weeks on Monday. I don't do crackers, breads, that kind of stuff yet because having to get 60 g of Protein in every day, and I'm only allowed 1/2 cup food 3 x a day,, Here's a typical day of food for me. My dietician has me counting only 2 things: protein (at least 60 g a day) fluids (at least 64 oz a day) I am allowed 1/2 cup of food at each meal (3 x a day) Example: 6 am = Protein shake (20 g protein) (I don't have time for BF) 11 am= 1/2 cup mashed tuna with 1 tbs light mayo (16g protein) 3 pm = protein shake (15 g protein) 6 pm = 1/4 c meatloaf (food processor) (10 g protein)+ 1/4 c mash pot. (2 g protein) total = 63 G protein approx 700 calories.. (64 oz diet tea or Water through out day) hope this helps..

when will I feel myself again?

I am 3 weeks post banded and I still have soreness at my port site. By the end of the day it hurts just to have my shirt touching the healed incision site.It pulls and tightens at the site when I walk or move. I told the Dr, they keep saying it will get better, but frankly I'm worried about it. I feel MUCH better than I did the 1st 2 weeks, but still.. Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Free Weight Loss Tools

    Lap Band and Divorce

I think this is a topic that deserves attention. My primary care doc, when I had my 1st consultation for LBS, asked me flat up,'Do you realize how this MAY affect your life?' He said he read a study where over 90% of women that get LBS and are successful at weight loss leave their husbands. This doesn't mean 90% of the women out there are bad. It means they have options. Don't judge. You've never walked in their shoes. I'm a nurse, and believe me, there's a lot of things that go on in this life and a a marriage that outsiders can't understand. You can love someone and that doesn't necessarily mean you should stay with them. Every marriage is complicated in a way that only those in it together can understand. I say don't be rash. Delve deep in your soul (a little therapy can be helpful) and decide what is best for you and your family. Be prepared to live with the outcome. Be good to yourself, your mate, and your children, regardless of how it turns out. Whatever you decide, proceed with kindness, grace and dignity. In a perfect world we would all live happily ever after, but we all must be realistic. This sight has been a God send to me. I thank everyone of you.
  15. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since my band. I've been okay,,good and bad days. No cheating, I've stuck completely to the liquid diet, only some days not quite reaching my 60 g of protein every day (but close). Now tomorrow I'm suppose to go to 'puree',,,can have finely smashed boiled egg, finely smashed tuna, found a recipe for mashed potatoes that you add white beans and ricotta cheese to up the protein,,thought I couldn't wait to try it..Now I am in a panic. Read all the 'stuck, sliming, PBing stories', went to the videos of 'failed bands',,erosion, slipping, ect..I know I have to advance, thought I was so excited,,now I want to stay liquids because I'm afraid. I have to work all week,,what if it happens at work?! Should I do liquids during the day? Could use some advice and encouragement...
  16. Tammy you ok? Can you get more down yet?

    Swimming

I was banded June 28th, Dr said 10 days. He removed my steri-strips friday,,my incisions are closed..,he said 'Go for it"...I spent all day yesterday in the pool! (Really helps take my mind off food)!
  18. Tammy,,hi! Have you had your follow up visit with your Doc yet? How much Protein are you managing to get in a day?
  19. I will have had my band 2 weeks this monday,,,,yay puree! can't wait! lol...I had pain, pulling, tightness, tingling, and numbess at my port site. It gets a little better everyday. I was so concerned, it seemed everyone on here felt 'great' after 2 to 5 days...I was panicked too! My Dr said some people heal slower than others. For some reason, the last 2 days (still same symptoms, but much less) I am feeling MUCH better. Anyway, sounds normal, don't panic, and good luck!!!

  22. How are YOU?? Are you off liquids yet? Do you still have pain?

  23. Hi Tammy!~ I'm fine..Corporate Inspectors walked in my facility for a mock survey, so, as ADON, I don't leave til they leave. Ugh. I really needed this on top of no food. I went to the Dr today (1st s/p Sx). I STILL have port pain. They said it was normal, come back in 2 wks. Lost 14 lbs though! I can't WAIT til Monday! Puree beans sound delicious. It's been a rough week,,glad it's over.

  24. I was banded 7 days ago. Although the pain has improved immensely, I still feel a' tightness' and 'presence' inside my abdomen. This is often slightly to moderately painful. It is there every time I reposition. It increases when I walk, and when I drink. The only time I don't feel the port (from the inside) is when I am lying still. Am I always going to feel this? Is this normal?
