got an email about local groups...I remember trying to see if this was was active...the person who started it does not seem to have done much and they can't give those right to someone else. Then someone tried to get something going on the regular forums from that group I got invited to join a group that goes to bunch of different support meetings sponsored by all the different hospitals...but through that I was invited to join a DFW Facebook page that is private so only group members see those posts. As it turns out for me, I don't get to go to as many meetings as I would like....due to time. I've made exercise a priority and with working and spending time with hubby and family...it just hasn't happened.
http://kimwls.blogspot.com/ here is my blog...as I started exercising more my posts started slacking, so my goal this year is to be a better blogger. Followers and comments might help there.
I also have a pinterest board called my new healthy that has lots of good stuff. http://www.pinterest.com/kimberlybacon/my-new-healthy/

    Hi Everyone.
I'm 3 1/2 years out with VSG. I'm quite active in the WLS community on youtube and Facebook. Haven't been on this site much in the last couple of years. Didn't realize that a local chapter had been started. From what I can tell, no actual meetings have been set up as an on going monthly or bi-monthly meet up.
    How many are still interested?
    I'm in the Allen area.

I've been away from this forum for way to long. Happy to see this new group. I felt lost with all the newbie questions before. I'm 18 months out and 23 or so lbs from goal. Been stuck for the past 6 months. I can't seem to get out of the 160's. And the holidays didn't help. I was at 158 for about a week before Christmas time, but gained and back up to 163.

it's hard..i'm 2 years post op..And i still sometimes overeat...like once every 2 monthes on accident..I don't use measureing tools but try to remind myself at this point if i ball my hand into a fist. I can eat about that much. And eat slow to realize when i am getting full...The biggest thing to overeating is if u go with out eating and think your starving and then eat to fast. Kills me everytime.

If I'm not hungry, I will get a glass of Water. If I am hungry, I find out what my mom or husband is going to get and I will not order. I will get a little plate and take a very small portion of their plate. They don't mind at all because I can't eat enough to really take most of their food. Sometimes my mom will ask me what I'm in the mood for and I'll tell her (like at Red Lobster) that I wanted the grilled salmon. She will find a plate that has the salmon on it or do the create your own feast. Other times I will ordering the children's menu. It is totally psychological, but sometimes I miss ordering and receiving food. Strange, I know. That's when I normally order on the children's menu.

You know...I have to say I don't understand the draw for nutella either. That's probably a good thing (I also don't really find Peanut Butter tempting).

I figure we just talk about things that are specific to people in maintenance, in the home stretch or those with a lot to lose that are experienced, but still midway in the journey.
I know we will really miss all the drama right?
There is still a need to keep sane. Trust me. This is a lifelong thing. For instance, do you know what I did last week? I stuck a spoon in a jar of cream cheese frosting and then dipped that into a can of mixed nuts. Man, that was good, but insane. Still was under my limit for calories, carbs and fat, but total momentary insanity.

Do they know what caused your levels to be so low? Is it because your not eating/drinking enough or Vitamins, or what? I go in next week for my surgery and just want to make sure I do it all right.

I still like that full feeling, too, but it doesn't drive me as hard as it did. The overwhelming urge to satiate that desire which was an 800 pound gorilla on my back is now a 50 pound spider monkey. But not as cute.
Hey, I just noticed I'm 3 days older than you. Whoo Hoo! Coming up on our one year surgiversary.

Head hunger is that hunger that isn't - and it can feel like hunger, but oddly once you identify it, it doesn't so much anymore. I call it trigger hunger...there is always a trigger, something to make it start up.
it can be a little confusing because it is totally possible to already have a sensation on needing to eat soon, but then stress or boredom, or habits kick in, and it can feel overwheling.
This surgery will not fix the goings on in your head - and we all have them. That has to be acknowleded and worked on.
As for real hunger I occasionally get it but it is not the beast it used to be.

I dont have hunger like I did pre-op, I dont get the growling, or hunger pains, but if I go a long time without eating I get the urge to eat and feel like I need to eat something. Its kind of hard to explain, but it is nowhere near what it was pre-op, I just hope it stays like this.

This is an interesting topic as everyone is different. If you do a search on the site for the word hunger, I'm sure you can glean a ton of information already shared.
For me, I had to set alarms to remind me to eat. Even at 11 months out, after not eating for 14 hours while waiting for the fasting blood draw, I was not hungry like I was pre-sleeve. I could have easily gone several more hours without eating whereas pre-sleeve, I would have been obsessed with what I was going to eat next. But I was fine and waited until my normal lunch hour to eat.
I had a terrible relationship with food pre-sleeve always snacking and eating until I was beyond full. I liked the feeling of being full. Now, that sensation is totally different, so my desire to reach that feeling has pretty much disappeared.

Holy cow, Really? I mean Really? So your friends & family decide to pay you a compliment (keep in mind these are the same people that you probably complain about your weight problems to) & instead of taking it at face value you have to twist it to have some underlying backhanded intent. Really? Sounds more to me like somebody has self esteem issues.
If you tell someone that you are considering/having WLS, and they say "you're not that big" why not respond with something like "It's so nice to have people in my life that accept me the way I am." then maybe mention a few of the things that your weight has caused or maybe what loosing the weight will mean you can do.
Thinner people that have never been big don't understand the damage even 100lbs can cause, and admit it, us big folk don't want to be left behind. But I can say when I've told anybody that I have sleep apnea(which shortens your life), borderline high blood pressure, damage to my right knee, my back hurts after only walking about 100 yards, and my achilies tendons can cause me to be down for days at a time. And all of this can be cured or minimized by losing 150lbs+- all of the sudden they become very supportive. Knowledge creates understanding.
