  1. I too was told that there are no "nevers". At 5 weeks I was cleared for anything that I could tolerate.Let me add I was told no carbonation or alcohol for 3 months. Sorry
  2. My Dr. left a drain in for 6 days post op. I had to drink sugarfree grape koolaid several times a day to make sure it didn't show up in the drain. It was to make sure there was no leaks. I was told if anything purple was in there to call them immediately.
  3. LOL.. I know this because I love sf grape hawaiian punch, that is my main drink and I was concerned at first cause my poop was really green and then a friend at work told me it was because of the drink. And yes she was right. Good luck.
  4. If you are drinking alot of purple colored crystal light or koolaid that will make it green too. Also the protein drinks make me go to the bathroom alot.
  5. Sugarfree hawaian punch is my main drink. It's sooo good. My surgeon said no carbonation for the first 2 months and then in moderation. I have tried a sip or two of diet coke and I hate the way it feels in my stomach.
  6. You are not alone. My first weeks I could hardly eat and felt so tired all the time. When u get to eat real foods and get your vitamins in you will feel better. I'm almost 4 months out and I still can only eat about 8 or 9 bites every 2-3 hrs but I feel great and have lost 59 lbs. Just hang in there it does get better.
  7. I am the exact same way, when my husband and teenage son are eating ( neither one overweight at all) I have to leave the room sometimes. Just watching them eat so much and knowing I use to match them bite for bite almost makes me sick. The thought of going to a buffet is awful.
  8. I totally agree that we each know our own bodies best. Before surgery I never lost well on Atkins or Sugar busters or any of the low carb diets. I do best counting calories so that is what I do. I've lost 58 lbs since surgery on June 24th doing this and I don't feel deprived or like I'm cheating ever. I just started exercising this week to bump things up a little. I am certainly NOT advocating this but a college professor did a research project I think it was last year and ate nothing but junk food and limited his calories and still lost weight. Of course you want to be as healthy as possible so that is not even an option, but I am a firm believer in burn more calories than you eat and you will lose weight. Just my opinion.
  9. Each Dr. is so different, I came home from the hospital on mushie/pureed foods and by week 5 was cleared for anything. I know I felt much better the more I got real food in.
  10. pre op 239 lbs3 mo post op 185 lbs (I'm on the left)

  12. Congrats!! That's awesome. Keep up the good work. Who knew we would be excited to be called overweight. lol
  13. I am sooooo sorry longer-life, I was looking at these on my phone at work and between patients and I guess I just overlooked yours. Please forgive me. I guess what I think I do different is I do eat carbs and I don't forbid myself anything. I dont weigh anything and I really only track my calories. That being said I do try to make good choices. I think the key for me, and this is just my take on it, is that as soon as i forbid myself something that is all I want. It's the old mindset of feast or famine that I had before surgery. I eat what everyone else is eating and stop when I begin to feel full that way I get the taste of the food I want and yet can only eat a teeny tiny portion of it, but my stomach feels like I ate a whole plate full. That is exactly what I wanted this surgery to do for me.
  14. My son is in the military and owns a supplement store and he recently introduced me to the best Protein shakes ever. It is called Lean Dessert. The flavor I love is called Fresh Cinnamon Roll. Oh my goodness is is great! You can also use the Protein powder mixed with a little Water and make the best pancakes. Just mix and pour on a griddle. Yummmy. they also have vanilla and chocolate fudge pudding. delish Nutritional facts are: calories 150 total fat 3.5g total carb 8g protein 21 g
  15. Indymom, I don't really have a structured eating plan but here is what i had yesterday. breakfast- 1/2 of a fried egg, 1 piece of bacon. ( i couldn't eat the whole egg) snack- peanuts lunch- about 6 or 7 bites of spagetti meat sauce with very few noodles. ( again i was full on that) snack- 2 ritz crackers with a wedge of laughing cow cheese supper- i grilled ribeye steaks and baked potatoes for my family and my son gave me part of his, i ate about 6 or 7 bites of steak and 3-4 bites of potato. snack 1 oz of goldfish crackers. I know that some people are carb sensitive and it hinders their weight loss but I must not be, it has never bothered me. I use to eat a lot of sweets pre op and that is one thing i really don't eat now. I've had a bite or two and just have really lost the taste for them. I usually eat whatever my family is having only way less. I think my whole day of food is less than one meal was pre-op. LOL
  16. LOL. Yeah it's much better. And truthfully after my brain has had time to catch up with my tiny tummy I don't even miss it.
  17. I agree with Raine, any surgery has the risk of this particular complication. I'm 50 and never had a weight problem in my younger years, but over the last 20 years I have lost so many times only to regain. I too was a volume eater. I have a husband and 3 sons that I could match bite for bite. Lol. I wanted the restriction of the sleeve, something to tell me when to stop and believe me it does that. Just take your time making your decision and do what you feel is right for you. Good luck with your journey where ever it may lead you.
  18. I had no health problems prior to surgery just overweight. None at all. The dr said he thought a small blood vessel didn't cauterize completely and opened up. I had surgery on Friday, went home saturday about noon and about 2 hours later my legs couldn't support me so we went back to the ER where I was admitted and promptly passed out cuz my pressure dropped so low. He didn't want to go back to surgery unless he had to and fortunately my bp started coming up, hr coming down and bloodwork stabilized. So he knew rhe bleeding had stopped. I was really anemic and had to take iron for several weeks but now I feel great. Even with this problem I would still do it over in a heartbeat. Even if I didn't lose another lb it would be worth it knowing I will not regain what I've lost.
  19. I had a major complication of internal bleeding, bp dropped to 40/10 and I was in ICU for a couple of days. For probably the first 6 weeks I had serious buyers remorse and couldn't believe I had done this just to lose weight. But as I started to feel better and the weight started coming off I made peace with myself. Now 11 weeks later and 50 lbs. down I am soooooo glad I had the surgery. Getting back to work helped because I don't have all day to just think about myself and my surgery. Hang in there and give yourself some time. Things will get better.
  20. MAKF, a whole lotta folks on here won't like me saying this, but I only count calories. I stay under about 800-900 a day. I do eat protein first, but find that no matter what I want I can only eat a tiny portion. I am starting to exercise this week, but until now I haven't done that just because I don't have time. I'm gonna start zumba classes on tues and thurs. I have tried the atkins type diets before surgery and they never worked for me, I have always lost better counting calories. That is just what works best for me. Thanks ya'll for the posts!
  21. Yay this morning i stepped on the scales and they said 189.2!!! I've lost 50 pounds since surgery 11 weeks ago. only 40 more to go!!!! I love you little sleeve. You are my BFF.
  22. highest weight was 245 day of surgery 239 11 weeks post op (today) 190
  23. I am 10 weeks and at my 8 week check up my dr. cleared me for everything. He said try it and see how it sits with you cause everyone is different. Steak has been one of the easiest things for me to eat, but I have eaten everything my family eats only much, much, much less. Some things sit on my stomach better, but nothing has bothered me yet. So I would say keep the reservation and enjoy.
