  1. Today I had my scheduled colonoscopy which did not go well at all. This is my story, I am 13 months post op sleeve surgery. All is going great, l05 lbs down. Off of meds. Diabetes, cholesterol, sleep apnea, gout, prostate, and blood pressure are gone or under control. Now for today, the colon doctor prescribed an bowel cleaning medicine call MoviPrep. The instructions states at 4 p.m. drink 64 ounces the mix liquid (8 ounces every 15 minutes) then at 8 p.m. repeat follow by 16 ounces of an liquid of my choice. It was very difficult to digest all of the medication, but I did except for the last 8 ounces. As a matter of fact, a few times I felt it wanted to come back up. What's more, I was put on a clear liquid diet all that day. Only food was chicken broth I had that day. After a few hours my stomach began to make funny noises, and started feeling very uncomfortable. But the cleansing solution was not working. At about 1 a.m. I had my first movement and the next at 5 a.m. After arriving at the hospital, being sedated, and having that tube inserted in my a-hole, I was advised the colonoscopy did not go well for the reason that the colon was not completely cleansed. The doctor said I would have to return for another procedure, and this time prep for 48 hours instead of 24. It's now been about 8 hours and I am still feeling discomfort and stomach growling very loudly. I do not want to go through 2 days of forced liquids that don't work. My questions: Have any one else had similar situation. What's your opinion. Should I contact my sleeve doctor. Maybe suggest another type of cleansing medicine. Your suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. Lash
  2. Liss E The choking, vomit, aspiating, and not sleeping is on point. Thanks for the heads up. Good luck on your surgery.
  3. I have a digestion problem which may be cause by my sleeve surgery on Jan. of 2011. When I sleep, food & liquids back up into my lungs cause me to aspirate with coughing periods as long as 15 minutes. This is not only from late night eating, food consumed before 6 p.m. will cause me to aspirate when fall asleep about at 11 p.m. On occasions, I have chills and fever the next day (pneumonia). I have been taking Nexium for the last 6 months. A few days ago I visited a bariatric specialist; he stated my symptoms could be from the sleeve surgery or a Hiatal Hernia. The doctor said a Gastric By-pass maybe the answer. This Wednesday, I am schedule for a series of test to diagnose this dilemma. All else, the surgery have been an overwhelming success. Question for the group, is anyone familiar with this type of digestive problems after sleeve surgery. ThanksLash44

  5. I have an old very nice and expensive suit. The paints are 52 inch waste and coat is 50 inch. I would like to have the suit altered to my new weight and size if at all possible, to be honest the suit have sentimental value to me. My wife says, I should ditch the old suit and get a new one. What would you do? What do you think I should do?
  6. This is the results of my recent blood test. Diabetes gone, bad cholesterol disappeared, high blood pressure moved out, sleep apnea departed, hypertension not here, gout vanished, prostate problems divorce me. Down a from 52 inch gut to a nice 38, was 305 heavy on the scale to 185 lbs. Not bad for a 62 year old dude. Looking forward and wishing well. Thanks VST.com for the continuous support.
  7. First at two and one half years, I am holding the weight down. It's an everyday struggle but it's worth it. My problem is consuming (approx. 60 to 75 ounces per day ) a lot of liquids containing aspartame such as Crystal Lite, Hawaiian Punch, and other non-carbonated drinks with aspartame. The problem now is headaches; I will talk to the doctor at my next visit in a few weeks. The headaches have slowly gone away now I am drinking more water and less diet drinks. My question has anyone gotten headaches from diet beverages. There's a ton if info on the web about aspartame and headache. Thanks Lash44
  8. I been taking liquid Vitamins with great success. The thing is they are expensive and the Sams Club & costco no longer carry them. Sleeve can not tolerate pills. Thinking about "Gummies". Open to suggestions. Thanks
  9. As a continuing struggle to maintain my post op weight, I just learned of this today, although some of you may already know about it. It seems Panera has a "secret" menu. You won't see it listed in the restaurant. You have to tell the staff you're ordering from the "Hidden Menu." There is a handful of very low carbs, high Protein options that look really good. Just ask the sever about the hidden menu. http://mypanera.panerabread.com/arti...s-hidden-menu/ Lash

    Panera's Hidden Menu

Panera's is a business, lets face it. They are out to make a profit, that's the nature of business. Yet on the other hand if a business can reply to the a demand, that most eating establishments don't and they can make money doing so. That's a plus for them. Most restaurants do not offer high protein low carbs meals. McDonald's is dropping its Fruit & Walnut Salad. It's up to a healthy eating public to request more nutritious menus to make a difference. Panera's is a start.

  18. New Orleans food festivals galore. Not the place for the truly diet consensus. Lasts week was the Gretna Heritage Fest. Gretna is 10 min drive from New Orleans. This festival had almost 50 food booths This weekend, there are The Gumbo Fest, New Orleans Seafood Fest, and The Blues and Bar-B-Cue Fest all within 20 miles of each other. Next week is The Oyster Fest & Treme Music Fest. I cheated, that cheese cake with sweet pecan sauce was so, so, so, good. If you enjoy great music, delicious food, & cool arts and crafts. The Big Easy is the place to be. I enjoy attending festivals, they are trying every bit of will power I have.

    How Bad Was It?

All things in time. You had major surgery, its going to hurt a bit. All will be just fine.
  20. After over a year and one half post op, I tried a few pieces of fried chicken tonight. It almost killed me. Stomach pain was horrific and I was finally was relieved when it came up. Have anyone had problems with fried foods? Thanks
  21. Update from sleeve surgical procedure. Doing just fine, pre-op weight 300 lbs., post-op 185, sometimes it hops up to 190, but in time it usually drops down to 185. I am on the road 80 percent of the time, which makes it very difficult to adjust to my new lifestyle of eating. Considering getting a portable hot plate or an induction cooker. Places with stoves are best, then I can prepare the foodstuff. Energy has improved, don't always feel tired like I use to, have vigor and get-up-and-go on most days. In-so-far as health and wellness, blood pressure very good, diabetes exceedingly good, gout gone, elevated cholesterol, prostate trouble that's gone too, and don't have deal with the "little blue pill" any longer. On the down side, cannot tolerate greasy food, such as fried seafood, highly seasoned stuff, Beans, and other tasty food (I am from the south). There is the social dilemma with loosing much weight so fast, family and friends differences. Foolishness on the job. But this 61 year old takes it all in stride. We fellow sleever,s that's my chronicle. So far life is great. Take care & be well, Lash
  22. Hi there, I am 18 months post-op, lost approx 110 lbs. All is going good. I am happy with all my test result. Age is 60. Have to watch my salt intake, because of blood pressure. Everything else is great. What I notice now that I am working out on a regular basis, eating healthy and with the weight loss. My eye sight seem to getting better. I've been using reading glasses for years. I don't know is it because the diabetes is under control, yet I can read small print a bit clearer without the use of glasses. Was in church, pickup the bible and did not need the glasses to read it. Have any members notice any improvement in their vision after WLS. Thanks & be well, Lash
  23. This is so good, so far.
  24. I am confused about the preciseness of digital scales. I did a side by side comparison with three scales. The Health-o-meter, Taylor, and Thinner where all placed on a flat level surface and calibrated as per manufacture instructions. All three gave different readings. The Health-o-meter read 185.6 lbs., Thinner reading were 183.4, and Taylor displayed 181.2. I really like the Taylor because it always read the less weight. They all were within 5 lbs. One point of note Thinner and Taylor are more sensitive as they indicate a change in Water weight, before and after bathroom visits. Just wondering do anyone else notice the inconsistency in scales. digital scales I am confused about the preciseness of digital scales. I did a side by side comparison with three scales.
