  1. good to hear amy! am now having a lot of shoulder pain, is it supposed to be on both sides, and the incision is paining too, so just took my pain meds...probably will go to sleep early with that tonight!
  2. had to wear the mesh undies and big pad, and then they actually cut of the undies during surgery too...went home in my own though! they also asked me to waive the pregnancy test... surgery went ok, having a lot of shoulder pain now though and some pain at incision points.
  3. back from my surgery which was scheduled at 10:45...not loopy, able to walk around a bit, hate having to pee every few minutes, the incisions don't hurt except for the one by the port...it does hurt when i laugh or cough cause the port hurts, and my throat is really sore from the intubation...so far no shoulder pain or gas problems, but my neck hurts probably from how they placed me during surgery...so far, all i have had is water and it is going down okay, i am gonna try some broth next...overall, i think i will make it

  5. thanks guys, i remember them from when i had my kids i hope they let me use my own though!
  6. nechama...are you having any shoulder pain...i hear that is common, just wondering about that? good luck to everyone (including me) that is being banded tommorrow. am getting excited and can't sleep! nervous at the same time though too! daddy and hubby are coming with, so hope all goes well...
  7. sort of a gross question, but i am having surgery tommorrow and just got my period today (which i am grateful for cause i was having a bit of a pregnancy scare)...anyways, how do i handle that on surgery day...i am not a tampon gal and so i usually use pads...but won't we only have our gowns on?
  8. last day of pre-op diet, getting major jitters about surgery tommorrow and worried about taking care of my kids, even though i have help...also, stressed about the whole nursing thing, trying to pump for my son who is 11 months, but have never been successful with that as much as direct nursing (which i won't be able to do until nighttime)...fearing that i am getting this done and still won't reach my goals yet again...a lot of mixed emotions, but i know in my gut somewhere (that will hopefully be gone soon ) that is what i want to do!
  9. love the charms idea, found a website called charms to treasure that i liked...am going to order them before my friday surgery!
  10. my husband asked me the same thing last night, and asked if i was looking forward to it? i am having a hard time talking to him how i want about it and i think he is ackward with his questions about it too...he doesn't have the same kind of weight issues, so he can't relate, and my weight and self esteem issues have definitely contributed to many of our marriage problems...
  11. well he is giving me paid meds and nausea med that will not interfere with nursing...any thoughts from moms that have gone through the surgery already while nursing?
  12. are there any nursing moms out there that were nursing their child when they were banded? what tips do you have to give? how soon were you able to nurse after surgery, because i have heard many differing views...my doctor says 24 hours after, but there is no way my son will go that long, i think the most i can keep him away will probably be about 12 hours! i know some ppl have said they nursed as soon as they came home and were feeling up to it...
  13. just weighed myself and only lost 2 lbs and am on day 5 of pre-op diet, so am feeling discouraged...i guess this just proves to me why i need the band...it's so hard to make the scale move down even when i am trying so hard to stick to this diet!
  14. i think it's important to tell a few ppl, i told my childhood best friend, and my two best friends here in cincinnati but told them it is personal and not to share...my family of course knows too. i figure once the weight starts sliding off fast, i might feel like telling more ppl if they directly ask, but if they don't ask, i won't tell...i feel like ppl judge you and think "oh she couldn't do it on her own, so she had surgery and now she doesn't have to do anything and it just comes off!" maybe i am paranoid, but that is what i think ppl think generally who don't know about the process and i don't want to sit here and explain the surgery and the way it works to them if they are not really important in my life.
  15. i am supposed to have 4-5 shakes a day and lots of water, I can also have yogurt and then of course SF jello and popsicles on this diet. they say i should be taking in 800 calories a day, but yesterday which was my first day on it, i struggled to get 800 calories (if you can beleive that!). i came in at around 700...should i eat something real to get there?
  16. so i am finding i am not really hungry on this liquid diet, just used to putting something in my mouth unnecessarily...anyone have similar thoughts? i am afraid i will break after a day or two, or maybe it will get easier, i am not sure?
  17. how are the shakes going? started mine today, so far no cheating, and it's not that bad...i just hope i can keep it up for 6 more days!
  18. my last real meal today too!
  19. Has anyone been banded or getting banded by Dr. Watkins in Cincinnati? Any thoughts? I'm due to get banded on July 1 by him, starting my pre-op diet tommorrow morning...
  20. wow, good job on losing 20 lbs...i hope i can lose at least 8-10 in the one week i have to do it! i've been thinking that too though, about the "do i really need to do the surgery? why not just do a liquid diet?" but the truth is that i have tried that and so many others, and they don't keep the weight off. it comes back as soon as you leave those diets for a while and i don't want to do that anymore...i want to be able to set a good example for my daughter now that she is getting older so fast (too fast if you ask me) and i don't want her to grow up with a fat mother and think it's okay to live her life this way. i want to have better self esteem, better relationships, a better body, and that's what i want her to grow up with and remember when she is an adult.
  21. which ones are you using, i am going to purchase mine today for my liquid diet that starts tommorrow!
  22. My in-laws live with me currently, so that is helpful in some ways but tortuous in other ways! my parents will be here the night before the surgery and leave the day after, but my dad will come with me to the surgery and my mom can help my in-laws with the two kiddos. I also have a part time nanny who has agreed to help out that day until after her normal hours and for a few hours the next day. It seems to me I should be okay with some many people helping, but I am still very nervous about it. Everyone at the office says I should be able to pick him up and care for him regulary by the next day. I can nurse him when I am no longer "dopey" and feeling up to it. They are giving me pain meds that don't interfere with it. Have people been loosing on the pre-op liquid diet and how much?
  23. Hi All, I am getting banded on July 1 and am starting to get nervous. I start the liquid diet on friday and am just nervous, will i be able to do it? Also getting nervous about the post-op time, because I have an 11 month old nursing infant. I am not that worried about the surgery for some odd reason. I am also plagued with the fear that what if I fail at loosing weight with the band like I have failed so many times before on different diets? Hopefully this forum helps to calm me...
  24. do you think he will be supportive? i am just wondering. my husband wants me to lose weight (he does not have weight issues like me) and has said i should do the surgery, but as i progress with doing those things i need to make it happen and the date gets closer, he is not being very supportive and thinks i should not go through with it. i am ready to make this change though and want to do it...i am scheduled for it july 1.
  25. I am scheduled to have surgery on July 1 and I currently nurse my son who will be 11.5 months when I have the surgery. He is obviously at this point not exclusively nursing, but he is very clingy and dependent on me to nurse for comfort. I am not very nervous about the surgery itself. I am extremely nervous about how this will effect him because he is going to want to nurse as soon as I am home (it is same day surgery where I am). I am not planning on taking the narcotic pain meds, maybe just tylenol 3. Some people have said you have to pump and dump for 24 hours because of the anesthesia and then you can nurse like normal, but then some people have said that they nursed as soon as they were able to. Any guidance on this topic would be greatly appreciated!
