I'm on my phone so I'll be short.
I'd never delay my surgery for someone else. I think you should 100% do what you want and feel necessary. It's your life. I don't know your family but it sounds almost like they don't want you to be eating a little but while hey are oohing out. " misery lives company". Of course. Don't know of that is true but it just seems selfish to me that hey don't want you to do something that could be IT. Diets do not work long term. You want long term.
You do something for you!!! Please don't do a dirt for someone else. You re setting yourself up for failure.
I hope I don't sound snarky, I care about you. And I'm having to defend myself a lot lately. It's maddening.

You are suffering the same reactions that some addicts suffer from. This is a reason we get this surgery. Without a smaller stomach, you would be overeating, feeling guilty about it, getting more depressed and then overeating again because of the pleasure you get from eating to combat the depression. It's an endless spiril we all have been through. Once you have had the surgery, this tool we have been given helps us through this period. Its normal. Your brain is focusing on the withdrawl. All you can do is recognize this and realize that this too shall pass. Stalls are normal and expected. Reward yourself occassionally for what you do, although not with food as you might have done in the past. Go do something for yourself.

If you want some proof that more can be obtained, I'm your proof. I started at 427 and now weight 195, losing 232 pounds over all and 212 pounds since the surgery, With discipline and exercise, this tool we have can help you meet your goals. Doctors don't want overstate what is possible so they set your expectation on the low end. Mine was on the high end and that's what I'm doing.

I came across a great quote today that you need to look at whenever you feel frustrated.
There’s a great line in the Desiderata by Max Ehrmann that says: “If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.”
Just enjoy the ride. I hit my goal and thought I couldn't lose more because I plateaued for a month, although I was losing inches. It's inevitable if we consume less and burn more, we will lose weight.

WTG MassIndex. Looks like you only have 1 lb to go now! I followed a little of what you were doing on the exercise thread.
I will be traveling 170 miles each way to go to my Dr. Being from a small rural town in Texas, it comes with the territory that you will drive a long distance to go anywhere, lol.
I look forward to some of the successes you are all reporting.

The surgery isn't going to change your life. You are going to change your life. The surgery is a tool to help you get there but only if you want to get there. You can get out it what you are willing to put into it.
Will people treat you differently? Some will and some won't, just like they do today. You will face people who would disapprove of your surgery and those who treat you differently k=now because you are big won't treat you the same in the future. I try not to associate with those who didn't treat me well in the first place. They weren't genuine people. As far as telling people, I waited 4 months before I told anyone. I wanted to make sure I was going to be successful because I knew that the surgery was a tool and if I failed, it was because of my lack of commitment.
My life has changed in so many ways for the better. Your life will too. Enjoy the ride and remember that we are all here to help. The community here is great.

My wife was VERY supportative with me having the surgery and we planned all along that she would be sleeved next. She was sleeved 2 1/2 months ago and has since lost 40 pounds. We can go out and order a meal for one to share and still have leftovers!

massindex got a reaction from ROGER in How Many Calories A Day Do You Usually Eat?
I still keep a food journal just so I don't get off track and I'm below my goal weight. It is so easy to cheat one day and then again the next and so on. food journals are a reminder to me that watching what you eat is a life long step in keeping off the weight. (It also helps me in exercise and training to know what works and what doesn't).
To your question, I agree that fluids and Protein are the only things you have to worry about. Research the highest Protein per calories/ounce items and it will help (seafood items like scallops and shrimp were easiest for me at your point because they were relatively soft).

    Hello all,
I was looking for this group for quite sometimes. I too have more than 200lb to lose, and would like to read your stories and share mine.
I was sleeved on March 11 and was hospitalized for 5 days. I did not have a pre-op diet, so all my loss is post-op.
The worst time (in terms of pains/discomfort) ever was the moment I woke in ICU, with different drains, canulas, and incredible pain.
I went into surgery at 9:30am, last clock glimpse I remember was 9:45. I woke-up in ICU at 19:30.
I was cold, very cold. they covered me with 2 blankets, and gave me some sedatives. First moment of relief came on the second day when they removed the tube/hose from my nose.
17 days post-op, I still feel some weak pain at the site of surgery (I have 11 wounds/laparoscope holes !!!). I shrinked a lot, but I feel weak. Although I am lighter, I have less energy.
Two days ago I started feeling a kind of pain in the left kidney. I think I have to drink more Water.
I am stil on my liquid diet.
Best think about the surgery is that I feel no hunger, and when I do, a sip of anything including Water, calms this hunger down.
Not only that, but I also stopped hallucinating about food : Pre surgery I was always hungry, and I always had day dreams about food. I had a grazing problem, starting 8pm I always ate something every 30-45 minutes, and it alternated between sweets and salty food. Whenever i saw a fast food ad on the TV, I immediately go to the kitchen and start a food frenzy !!!
I use to wake up in the middle of the night 2-3 times to eat.
But now, all that is HISTORY.
    Cheers !!!

Jumped on the scale last night after a particularlly brutal triathlon yesterday (bike leg was 15 miles, mostly uphill and into a 30 mph wind) and I hit my goal weight, 200 pounds for my 6'4" frame. It took me more than 14 months to lose 227 pounds but it was well worth it and those last few pounds seemed to never move.
What a great journey. I took out a pair of my size 56 waist pants I kept as a reminder and put them next to the size 32 waist jeans I wear now. I could fit two of me into the old pants. I'm never going to go back. I finally ilke the new me.

I won't say that didn't have regrets that first week in that I had to have surgery to fix a "weakness" with me. I also recognized that without it, I was heading down a path of destruction. I began to look at it like getting mental health assistance with depression. I just needed something to get me over the hill. I know I would have lapses but for the surgery. With the help of the surgery and determination, my life is 1000 times better now than it was a little more than 13 months ago.

I've run two half marathons this year already and you should look up fern. She has done one and is doing 4 more this year. She can offer a number of tips. You WILL run into special challenges, primarily from our inability to consume calories like others and even though we are taught Protein, protein, and more protein, you will need carbs to complete the race. Best of luck and rock your sleeves!
