    Crystal Light

I recommend 2 different ones. I regularly use Propel packets but I also carry a couple of little MiO bottles with me. With the MiO you squeeze a shot into the Water so you can control your flavor better.

    Greek Yogurt and Cottage Cheese???

I see 16 carbs in my morning Trader Joe's Greek Style Non-Fat Yogurt with Blueberries. Most of that is added. I understand that Fage Classic Greek Yogurt has 6 carbs per 7 oz serving.

    Hello...My name is Cheryl

Cheryl, Few people will understand why you have chosen this route except the people here. I still haven't told anyone in my family. Just my wife and two grown sons know. I've asked them not to discuss it. Personally, it's nobody else's business and when I need support or to talk, I come here. They may suspect what I have done but I don't need their approval. What I have done is make changes for my life. You will find acceptance here...

    Greek Yogurt and Cottage Cheese???

Personally, I had never had Greek Yogurt before my surgery. I looked at the Protein when I was on the mushy part of my diet and said "I gotta try this." I love it now, especially with fruit. It's a regular part of my morning Breakfast. By the way, Epicurious just a taste testing and I pretty much agree with their results. http://www.epicurious.com/articlesguides/everydaycooking/tastetests/greekyogurttastetest

    Thinking of Cancelling

I should add that my job requires me to be on the road. I was back on the road 1 week after surgery, lugging my suitcase and 30 lb computer bagpack around the country. Just got off the road this week after 11 straight weeks, home just weekends. I loved the challenge! You have to exercise care but you'll be surprised how resilient your body can be....

    Mexico or Bust!!!

I had my surgery done in Tijuana by Dr. Mario Almanza at the Jeruselum Clinic. The clinic was as clean or cleaner than anything I've seen in the US. I too paid cash however, if its at all possible, I'd recommend going with someone. It makes it much easier. In talking it over with the doctoer there, they said they have seen a higher success rate with the gastric sleeve than the Placation but its certainly your choice. There are some tests in Mexico, including blood tests and they will provide you with those. There is some history you have to fill out but nothing you can't deal with. Having part of the stomach is a good thing actually, I think. There is some information recently out that the stomach has its own 'brain' and can take control of the hunger process. Removing it removes the issue and I notice far less hunger (only 'head' hunger) issues and much easier to eat small amounts and be full. Best of luck to you and you are making a great choice!
  8. I starting my seventh week since being sleeved and I'm seeing some significant changes. I've dropped 54 lbs since my pre-op weigh-in and 73 lbs from my high weight when I made my decision to start down this path. I'm also seeing some slowing in the decline of my quick weight loss of the first of the few weeks as I've moved into regular foods. If only it would continue but I understand the process. I'm beginning to add some exercise into my routine (3-5 mile walks) so I know this will help my metabolism. I'm using an app for my Blackberry to track the foods I eat called Calorie Counter by Fat Secret. It gives me Protein counts and seems to have almost every kind of food out there. Any one try this app or other apps? Tips for tracking? I'm always looking for tips and this forum seems to have a lot of motavated and creative people.
  9. I just saw that and I've downloaded it to check it out. I'll post my evaluation.
  10. I downloaded on my wife's EVO. It looks pretty good.
  11. I just got an update to my Calorie Counter app and now it has ADS on the screen! I hate spam. I checked out the app you all recommended and they don't have it for Blackberry so I'll have to wait but it looks good.
  12. The mental hunger is something we fight all the time. But it goes both ways. Sometimes you will not be hungry when you should be eating something because its been 5-6 hours since you last had something. Just have to fight through it. The gas gets better and walking does help.

800 Pound Gorilla in the Room

Couple of things. First of all you will find your mood changes and you can 'even' out your stress levels as you lose weightt. Also, once you start down this path, you realize the commitment you are making and become a little anal about what you are putting into body. If I'm going to comsume the small amount of food that I'm able to then I want to make sure it's beneficial to me. Tiffykins is right. It's empty calories and you soon begin to find other coping measures. Good luck!

Alright guys, where is everybody at?

'Big A' - it will be the best choice of you ever made. I was in your position a month ago and it is the best choice I made.
  15. Everyone will lose at their own pace. Don't be frustrated and also don't be a slave to the scale. The reason we do this is make a lifestyle change, to live and be healther. Listen to your body and just be relaxed with the process. I know I feel healther because most of my joint pains are gone now. My clothes are starting to fit differently. I expect things will slow for me but I won't be concerned.

    sleeve or band?

I too was going to do the band until 2 weeks before. I was an avid browser of this forum and the more I read, the better I felt about it. The success rate is so much higher and I wasn't going to do this without making sure I didn't fail. I went back on the road one week after my surgery and I just came back. I was on the road for two weeks total. This was going to be my true test I felt and I had no problems. As far as the nausea and such, if you over do (especially eating), you will get negative reinforcement in the form of nausea. It wasn't pleasant my first time and now I know better. I don't have hunger pains anymore but I make sure I try to eat regularly scheduled times, just very small portions. After 20 days from my surgery, I'm down 57 lbs from my high weight and 38 lbs from my pre-op weight. I'm consuming between 400-600 calories per day on average and not hungry for the first time in my life. My wife wants to do this now.
  17. It's been 18 days since my surgery and I'm still excited. The weight is coming off (or so it seems). I'm back at work and I've been on the road for the last 10 days. Being on the road presents it's own little challenges but I'm able to keep hydrated and just started woking in some soft foods to supplement the protein drinks. It's made me feel human again. I'm looking forward to starting a slow but gradual exercise next week (again back on the road). I'll go home and weigh myself this weekend just to see wherre I'm at but I'm not going to be a slave to the scale. I can feel the difference. No Naproxen for joint pain in the last three weeks! That says everything to me. I've been living on it for the last 10 years. I though it was mostly football injuries but I think I did that to kid myself. It was the weight.
  18. From my experience (I'm into day 9), I have good and bad days. There's no pain associated but you get full so fast that it's easy to 'over-fill' yourself and then you get the gag reflex. That's the negative reinforcement that makes it hard to drink enough. I have a problem with drinking Water so I've been adding a diet peach ice tea snapple package to my bottle of water and I'm getting about 60 oz of water down a day now (doctor said any liquids are better than dehydration). I have no appetite so if you're hungry, it's probably that you are not drinking enough water. 1st visit with Dr: April 6, 2010 weight 407 Pre-op weight: 380 Sleeve Date: Jan 31, 2011 with Dr. Mario Almanza, Tijuana, Mexico Current Weight: 355 (9 days out)

    Travel

I'm being sleeved in 2 days and maybe my situtation is unique. I travel extensively for work. One year I was on the road 49 of 52 weeks. I consistently average 200+ nights a year in hotels (Marriott Platinum Premier) and accumulate and use tons of miles and points. I'm going to be home a week before I have to go on the road again for a week. I know it won't be easy but work is work and have to do it. I'm going to have to map out what I can take, get through TSA screening, what medicines I have to take, account for time zone differences, the works. My plan is to share my stories and hear what others have to offer. Maybe through communication we can share tips and make the process easier for others.
