jenngetsthin got a reaction from Cater77 in Anyone from the East bay CA?
I'm not sure. I know the pre-surgery info sessions are on Wed nights at 6 pm. But not sure about the support groups. I think I read somewhere it's once a month on a Sat.

I'm from Richmond and work in SF. I spend every other weekend in Antioch at my bf's. I will be going through John Muir Concord for VSG. Nice to "meet" you.

Wow, props to you. I can't imagine drinking 7 shakes per day! Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

jenngetsthin got a reaction from ZinNH in How much time off?
Thanks. I go from El Cerrito Plaza to Montgomery. I do sometimes backtrack to Civic Center if it's crowded or I know I really need a seat that day. I don't have to rush home to pick anyone up anymore (one in college, and one walks home now) so that's nice to not have to rush. I normally get a seat in the mornings unless there are delays.

Thanks for this info. I am a legal secretary and was wondering how long I should take off. While I do sit most of the day, I also have an hour commute each way on BART to/from home to office, including 1/2 mile walk each way. I was trying to figure out how much time I should take off. I had hip surgery and took 7 weeks off, but I could have gone back after 4. That surgery is definitely a longer recovery period, but with this one I'm more worried about lacking energy due to the diet. Looks like I should consider at least 4 weeks for this. Also, not having energy and dealing with people on BART every day might push me over the edge LOL.

jenngetsthin got a reaction from Angie's_Ocean in What do you use in place of eating for fun/stress/boredom?
This is awesome! Good luck. I'm 45 and I graduated from law school in 2003 and took the bar (and didn't pass) in 2009. Now I have one off child to college and the other is 11, so I think I will take the time to study for and pass the bar. Never too late, right? You've inspired me!!

Thanks everyone!! Surgery was yesterday and it went really well. I'm not in much pain. I just got my first meal tray with broth and a New Whey Protein shot. If I tolerate it well then I'll get to go home in a few hours!!

jenngetsthin got a reaction from Rainbow_Warrior in How did you choose your goal weight?
I initially thought I'd love to get to 180 but when I checked the BMI charts that was still obese so I decided on 174 which puts me at overweight. I will reassess once I get lower and see how I look/feel.

jenngetsthin reacted to Walter.Sobchak in Surgery was the EASY part
That has been the hardest part for me, the emotional side. I thought I had prepared myself for life post surgery and I was wrong. It has been much harder than I anticipated. I am in recovery and do not drink or drug anymore been sober 10 years. Food was the last thing I could abuse. Now it is gone and I can't abuse it anymore. It has been very hard. However, my body does feel alot better just with the 35 pounds I have lost. Only 175 pounds more to go.

jenngetsthin got a reaction from Sosewsue61 in Is there where I introduce myself?
Hi. I'm returning to this forum after about 7 years. I went through the process then and didn't get final approval due to being diagnosed with Crohn's around the same time. I've been off/on Weight Watchers numerous times since then and my weight keeps going up and down and the weight loss is slower now that I'm older also (45). I was also diagnosed with sleep apnea last year and I have arthritis in my hip due to congenital hip dysplasia (already had the right one replaced but would like the left to last as long as possible). So I decided to start the process again. I go see my PCP in a few weeks and I'm also attending an informational seminar at the hospital at the end of the month. I live in the Bay Area, CA and will be going through John Muir (most likely Dr. Chin) to get the VSG.
