618 cals yesterday and I was so full I had indigestion well into the night! chicken, lettuce, 1 tsp caesar dressing... 2 pieces bacon, 1 egg, 1 tiny coconut flour pancake. It was the egg that gave me indigestion.
Hung my art last night for this month's show, it's hanging in the street facing window!

You are in the right place at the right time. Think of it as a long plateau that you can learn from. I might not be the last one.... (I have had a couple as well!) and you will do better next time, and even better after that! So goes life. Logging is great, finding something you like to do is great (I bellydance and bird watch) and remember its a process that last for life, and you are still alive!

After stalling, gaining, loosing, and gaining again... I finally got to goal at three years using the 5:2. Find info pinned to the top of the Vets page. Best of luck, it often takes longer than a year to get it all off.

meh - a little over 9 months out and I've gained my first 5 pounds. Totally my fault and no one to blame but me.
up until now I had lost a little more than 60 pounds. I refuse to backtrack.
I never got a full "honeymoon" period, as you so commonly hear. I healed fast and felt normal quickly, and I am able to eat anything I want to. I think I will experience these "firsts" faster than some. But it keeps me honest. I don't have a lot of time to develop long-standing expectations (going a long time without gaining weight) so I think in some way, this is good. Wake up call came earlier in the game rather than later. I must meet the challenge and overcome.
We all knew this was not a magical fix, but a tool. I've gotta treat it that way!

    Hi Everyone,
I'm new and will be having surgery 06/24. I just finished this whole thread, whew! I have been hanging out in the veteran forum too because I want to have real expectations. I have always thought losing weight was a head game or I should say for the last 10 or so years. And boy it is and as I have found out by reading this forum it still is even after surgery.
The stories have not discouraged me at all. I am a bit scared but if it can help me lose some weight then I am ready. All of you who are fighting every day to stay in the fight all I can say is I really hope I have the will and determination that you all have!!! I want to be like you when I get to where you are on the journey.
All of you that are hanging in there day after day after day are so inspiring and I want to thank each one of you for sharing your stories with us!!! It gives us a much better idea of what to expect after the surgery. So thank you and I wish each of you luck and success on your journey.

Thanks for writing this ladies. In many ways its similar you your stories. In a nut shell:
1 year. slow but steady with a butt load of stalls thrown in for good measure.
did not quite get to goal.
2 year. Get to within 5 pounds of goal, then lost my way and gained to 22 pounds above goal. HUGE sad face! I took my eye off the ball... I started acting "normal" (eating without being accountable) I had a big eating vacation, to NOLA, I had an injury that kept me down for a few months, I had my mom in law visit for 10 weeks with happy hour every single day.
3 year. Tried several methods to get the 22 pounds off and reach goal. Georgia turned me onto the 5:2, and I managed to get to goal in year 3. Took up birdwatching, walking, kayaking and continued bellydancing... loving a more active lifestyle. Really enjoying dressing up. Half way through year 3, mom got sick, and a pile of not so nice things moved into my life, job, home, relationships, sick and old dear dog.. then mom died. I fell back off the wagon, and just hung on the best I could. My weight started going up again.... and emotional eating and the holidays collided. I finally managed to get the weight gain to slow down and stop.. I started getting the good habits back on track... put my fitbit back on, started using myfitnesspal every day, every meal, every bite.... and started fasting two days a week again regularly. Still a few things I could tighten up... but not to bad. Unfortunately, the behavior that got me through the last push goal do not seem to be working the same way they did the first time.. but I am only 7 pounds from the high end of my goal range, so really thats not TOO bad all in all. My skinny jeans are tight. My cholesterol is up. My Dr says lose the weight, but its going really slow. I know stalls all too well and its not putting me off my task, but its a chore. I consider myself a success. Peoples eyes still bug out when they see me... even after 4 years. I hope I can go the rest of my life this close to goal... I really don't know how easy that will be. If it gets much harder than it is now, I don't know if I can pull it off, but so far so good (without saying it was easy)
I just had my 4 year surgeversary on Jan 19th 2015.

Please don't flame me CherylJane but, with all the issues with your hip, why did you tempt fate by going on a hike? It took 6 months of doing NOTHING remotely strenuous to get past the bursitis in my right hip, and it took that long because I was so pigheaded about wanting to continue my exercise regimen, wanting to do my yoga, etc.
I did 868 cals yesterday but only managed to get to 41g Protein. The big calorie user was the avocado I had for lunch, 300 cals by itself! But the nutritional payoff is such that I am willing to incur the "cost". I guess I am going to have to double up on my Protein Shakes if I want to make the daily recommended minimum of 60g.
Doughnuts in the office today, I know my 5:2 peeps understand what it took for me to NOT have one!
In four months I am taking my Mom to Italy - we are going to florence for a week! Tickets booked, apartment booked, travel guides are being studied, we are excited! Neither of us have ever been and my Mother has only ever been to Mexico, Canada, and the Bahamas. I do NOT want to be fat for this! I want to be able to hike the Tuscan hills and wear beautiful clothes and get whistled at Above all, I do NOT want to be the stereotype of the fat American, too out of shape to wear anything but elastic waistband shorts and sneakers D:
update: lunch with one of the bigger wigs meant I had to eat restaurant food. Luckily it was a slightly fancy place and I was able to order steamed mussels in their own juices so that 18g protein puts me at 60g protein, without having to drink 2 shakes, yay!

@@Queen of Crop - Thank you for starting this topic. It has proved to be very interesting and informative reading. I appreciate all posts from everyone and their candor about their individual journeys. I want to be successful in my journey and knowing about others' struggles and successes helps keep me motivated (although still being a newbie, my motivational level is still high, but I have discovered that it is a challenge to not let old habits creep back in). Thank you!

I find this to be one of the more interesting threads. Nearly 6 months after my initial post and I am STILL struggling. Meaning I am bouncing outside my bounce range.
I looked back at some old pictures when I was well under goal and I did not look better. I am finding 3.5 years post band to sleeve revision a time to both continue the struggle (never surrender. ..quote from Galaxy Quest) combined with a degree of acceptance. Ya know, I never really was a skinny chick..
Last month or so I have actually found myself thinking about dairy queen blizzards and other old habits I left behind years ago. I think that I have abandoned some of my new rituals which has left room for old bad ones to return. So far no DQ; but I have been thinking about what additional help or support I might be needing right now.

    Hey, Gang!
Sorry it has been so long. I've just kinda been in a "head stuck in the sand" kinda mode for last few weeks. I've read most of your info and see that many of us seem to be a bit down - I know I am - like Kim said, it's insidious. When I look at it overall, I know I SHOULDN'T be and MANY have it a lot worse but that doesn't make it seem much better. I even got back on my Zoloft (my daughter and husband said GET ON IT! and have been on for a week or so. Hopefully, that will help take the "edge off".
It's not debilitating but it is affecting me overall. I'm 20 pounds up from goal - the same 20 pounds I lost almost two years ago now and that's irritating. Family stress going on that has made a lot of anxiety.
I'm back to modified 5:2 this week - did really good for a few weeks and lost about 5 pounds - got off track on travel and poof! right back! LOL
It's not hard to do while I'm working but if I'm home, I really want to munch/snack all day long!
On other news, my daughter is 37 weeks now and DIL 34 weeks! We have babies coming soon!!!! Elton Jon Ray Crochet and Iris Grace Smith!! Makes for a busy summer - throw in the other three "Grands" and life is very busy!! They say it will keep me young!! Here's hoping.
Anyway, thanks for thinking of me, Kathy and Kim and others. Thankful that we have a "safe place" to spill and re-energize. Love to all!

Mohammed Ali, yep! He is the Robotics Instructer at my local Teaching Univerity as well as the head of Bariatrics. He used a Rock'em Sock'em Robot for my surgery....
another thing of interest. When I was going in for the Surgeons evaluation for this surgery, he asked me if I would be happy with a 50 pound loss, that was his estimation of my final weight loss. I said yes, but would love to lose more and he said "some people do, maybe you will be one of them" So at 80 pounds down (goal is 87-90) Im still a big winner by his estimation.

I totally agree with 'your body your decision'. But from experience, it's important to have support, in those first few days. Physical at least, if not emotional. So please make sure you have that. I think he sounds scared and can't articulate it. Could you sit down and talk to him about what the benefits will be for you as a couple? And ask what is really behind his concern? At the end of the day it's your decision alone, but having your spouse on board will help you both on the journey

I forgot I was going to say that today is my 19th wedding anniversary. We didn't do anything special. I wasn't in the mood to go anywhere or do anything.
I then remembered that on Saturday it was 4 years ago that I was sleeved. I am thankful for my sleeve and I wonder what the next year will have in store for me...

I did lose 5 1/2 pounds, and as soon as I ate some carbs it started to come back. It was worth doing, I really saw how eating almost all Protein and drinking enough Water can work so well. I hope to follow through with more protein, and will use some form of it on my 5:2 days.

No, I was close to the lower end of the cutoff weight for being approved, so I just had to do two weeks of staying the same weight. I had however given them proof that I had done many diets in the past without lasting success. Best of luck!
