a change is comin reacted to Nikkeystar in 1 Year Since Gastric Sleeve Surgery And My Birthday.....a Little Early
So here I am almost 1 year out from surgery and as of last Friday I weigh 207 pounds, that makes a total of 137 pounds gone since the day of surgery . My surgery was Sept 2 and my birthday is August 31st, so I have a lot to Celebrate :-). I'm making this post a little early because I'm going to be off for 13 days and I won't have access to a computer, hopefully when I come back I'll have pictures since I haven't uploaded any in awhile. This hasn't been easy by a long shot and for people that think it is I wish I could make them understand that it isn't. I've heard or had people comment and say "oh you took the easy way out", when they say that I just yell at them or better still I want them to try to remember to eat, take your Vitamins, get your Protein in, exercise, work and still live your life. After a couple of days I'm sure they would change their minds. I never really could picture myself at 200 pounds and now that I'm almost smaller than that it kind of freaks me out, I don't want to get to small. In the beginning I wanted to get down to about 160-165 now I think that if I get down to 180-185 I'll be happy. I know that it really is up to my body but I'm crossing my fingers and toes that I'll stop around then, lol My next goal is to get under 200 pounds, which I'm so close to. For those of you out there who are just starting this journey it's not easy but it is so worth it. Take the dive you'll be so happy that you did

I agree w Breezy. I am 9 months out and the skin is tightening up a bit now, I do exercise a lot though, and weight loss hasn't been as fast or as much as a lot of people on this forum. Plus I think a lot is down to age, genetics, lifestyle etc. I do plan to have a TT at some point, with 3 pregnancies and yo yo dieting since I was 9 years old (I'm 42 now) has taken it's toll on my body

This is going to come off sounding super harsh, and probably isn't going to "sound" right, but it's really how I feel about these situations, even with family members.
I do not think we should expect others to change their behaviors due to our decision to have weight loss surgery. Temptations are going to be everywhere, and we have to make the choice to not indulge. While it's nice in theory that those co-workers would be supportive and not tempt you, if it's something they love to do, I would not be comfortable asking them to change what they do to accommodate me or my eating behaviors.
If you are close with the co-workers, and you know them way better than any of us do, then share with them that you are having WLS, and ask that they not tempt you by reminding you that those foods are there, or offering them to you directly. Pack your desk with more sleeve friendly options, be prepared for those times by having your own foods available to you.
Some people will offer you food because they worry you aren't eating enough. They'll make remarks about you wasting away to "nothing", or that you're getting too skinny. It happens a lot and it causes some people a lot of emotional turmoil.
I'm not opposed to sharing your choice to have surgery, but I would not feel it's fair to ask them to stop doing something they love because your choice.

I was approved today. I'm still stunned. It didn't take long at all, four days total.

@NewMe86: Not really, maybe more of a last drink or two or three... or every weekend until August, lol. I've been kind of saying good by to alcohol. It is kind of hard to be a college student and not drink, so I am kind of getting my last hoorah out of the way or at least until six months after surgery. I've been low carbing it since May, and I can say I think I am okay with food for now, but I am definitely coming to realize I am saying goodbye to a lifestyle now too. I definitely won't be the quintessential college student anymore.

I hope so, if not earlier. Finish my last appt 2 weeks today, I'm now waiting for psych to send report to my doctor. After they receive report then they will send to insurance and prayfully they will approve. From there doctor's office will call me for surgery scheduling appt. Please pray I hear something next week.

    Yup, Sept 15th for me.
I'm currently just starting 18 days off for holidays, then back to work for a month which gives me just enough time to pre-plan and prepare to be away again, and then surgery. I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas LOL

a change is comin reacted to msleesa in The hardest thing is knowing you want this surgery totally and coming up with the funds
My grandmother my favorite person on this world. I understand your love for her. However, please don't sell the ring. What's meant to be will be. If you truly need this surgery and God knows it will change your life. The money is going to come regardless. He will make a way for you. All I can suggest is finding a loan company if your father can't provide the amount for you, but I'd be sad if you gave up something so beautiful. Best of Luck!

Nikki D u said a mouthful. If you don't get your health on track, you might not be around for your daughter or your husband. Selfish is if you didn't try to get yourself healthy....some people just need to sit back and be quiet because without the facts they really don't know.
