I'm the same way. Boobs never grew. I'm very small chested for my size. Which I'm ok with. They also haven't shrunk any with my weightloss, but I haven't los much.

I was told to not drink 20 minutes before a meal and 20 minutes after. Put the fork down between bites. Eat for 20 minutes only. 2 bites of Protein, 1 bite of veg, carbs should be avoided - but if wanted then only be the last bite. Eat 3 meals a day only (no snacking). No carbonation, no sugar. Eat without distraction (no tv, no reading, etc.). 80 oz of Water a day. Didn't have to worry about counting calories or measuring food if these rules were followed.
From what I understand my Dr. has since revised some of these basics like drinking before a meal and the snacking. Sometimes I think it would be wise for the clinics / Dr. to update their veteran banded patients on the newer findings on the to do's/not to do's of the LapBand. Things change.
    Thanks for this topic!

Wow, I've never heard of this. I'm going to have to check it out. I've never had strong nails. They've always been very thin and peel. Thanks for the info.

@@maryannotginger - have you read that silica and zinc help with hair growth? This is the first I have read of that. Is it available in pill form or part of your Vitamin?

I have been taking both Biotin and silica but added zinc to my supplements and the hair fall has REALLY slowed. New growth is now evident all over my head but the really comical thing is that it's dark and curly, as it was when I was a young woman (I'm 60 and 4 1/2 months post op).

I take both prenatal and Biotin. My hair is really thin still, but it has made a difference in how fast my hair has grown back out.

I told when asked about my weightloss. Other than that, I seen no reason for it to be brought up. It's not like I went around telling people about my gallbladder removal.

My younger sisters are interested in the surgery, they're 18. And my only reason I'm against them getting it YET is I don't think they are anywhere near mentally ready for wls. You need a certain mindset for this. You need to be ready to eat healthy, exercise and change your mentality towards food. I think showing a true attempt to lose weight through diet and exercise is important, simply because if shows you know what it's going to take and that wls isn't the easy fix. Unfortunately my sisters seem to still think it's magic.
If your daughter puts a real effort into being healthy and understands the consequences of it being a lifetime change, then why wait.

I agree with Scarletwitch19, it depends . Is your girl mature enough to deal with ALL the changes of WLS ? Forever ? Is she one to follow through on other things (nothing "diet" related) like school, homework, curfew ?. Does she have a job that requires her to follow rules , and does she do it whether she likes them or not ? Does she see WLS as a legitimate tool to help her lose weight, or does she think of it as a magical answer to her weight problem ? Also, with pcos, what does her Dr. say ? You know her best and it must be horribly tough to be overweight from the age of 10, but if I saw mostly positive answers to the above questions I would give my daughter my blessing. Good luck !

Has she tried doing something like a weight loss camp? I went to one when I was about her age and lost a sizable amount of weight and kept it off into my mid twenties. I completely understand the regain factor and know personally that girls I went to camp with did regain to some degree, but some have remained successful to this day and the big jumpstart in weight loss combined with a better understanding of nutrition made all the difference. Even if she loses and regains, by then she might be more mature and able to use this strong of a tool more effectively.
I just know that if I had surgery at that age and then a short time later had to deal with the social pressures of eating and drinking in college and then navigating life as an adult I wouldn't have been as successful as I have been now with weight loss. That age group is the most change filled period of any in a persons life, and there are pretty serious consequences if you can't stick with the pretty rigid plan.
If you are interested in programs, there's Wellspring Camps and Camp Penbrook during summers that I know of. I spent time at Structure House in North Carolina and they have a program that includes therapy, personal training and nutrition and operates year-round. I don't mean to imply that your daughter can't handle surgery, I'm mostly thinking about how much of an added responsibility something like this is during a period where a lot of us made mistakes learning who we are.
Good luck to you both- I truly empathize and know what it's like to be an overweight teen. You both seem proactive and I'm sure she will find her way no matter what path she chooses!

If y'all haven't already, y'all should make your own cream Soups, using whipping cream. I make a delicious kale & bacon Soup. One with any white Beans you like bacon and Italian sausage. You can do so many.

I trust mainly because it's what I suspected already and he confirmed it. He mentioned a conversion to bypass before we knew for sure. I've been looking into my options so I'll be ready when I return on the 17th for my appointment.

Thanks for all your replies! Not surprisingly, it looks like we have a few common food themes! Greek yogurt seems to be essential for most of us! And the other proteins: there are the staples like tuna and beef Jerky, and cheese. I’m surprised eggs didn’t come up much, although they did a little bit.
Those diet foods are right up there for some of you, too – the diet drink mixes, Protein bars and powders, sugar-free syrups, etc. Yep! Once you find something you like, it’s hard to pass them up in the store because you don’t want to risk not being able to find them.
Bandista, I am right with you about having certain foods around! You mention Peanut Butter and cottage cheese – both are healthy, but both can lead to trouble. I get it completely!
Those fresh fruits and veggies are a must-have for me, too. My problem is buying way too many in the store or market when they’re on sale and beautiful. I’m trying really hard to control myself in the store (there will probably be apples and lettuce available next week, too! LOL) so I don’t have to race to eat them while they’re still good.

I live on almonds and various other nuts. Avocado is also a staple. pureed avocado was one of my very first foods when I went to pureed.
I have days when I have a hard time eating and I am a bit over two years out. Those days I subsist on Peanut Butter, avocado and hummus.

I shred any hard cheese (soft cheeses don't crisp up) or cut into squares, sliced hard cheese place on parchment paper (very important) lined cookie sheet, add any seasoning like chili powder, basil, garlic powder, etc. Bake in oven @ 350 till they almost look burnt. Sprinkle with a little salt, as soon as they harden I place in airtight container. They're a good carb free snack.< /p>

Pepperoni, olives, hummus, cheese to bake into crisps(tastes better than cheezits and satisfies a chip craving).
