Almost 1 week after!
I am scheduled to be banded on May 20th. I am single and I was wondering how were the first 24-48 hours after the surgery? Will i need someone at home with me, or should I be ok by myself. I asked this question in another thread, but I forgot where and I cant find it! LOL! Can you get emails when someone replies to a thread you have posted in? If so can someone please share how you do that. Thanks, Jennifer

Unsolicited advice...Errr!
I too have choosen to tell very few people about my band. I wont get banded till May20th, but have already be contemplating how I will handle it when people start to question my weight loss. My scripted answer is going to be "portion control and exercise.", which is really the truth, they just dont have to know how i'm controlling my portions. People who have never struggled with weight loss just dont get it! I think in general people mean well, but yet still let insensitive comments fly out of there mouth. Along with not agreeing that I should do this some people just dont understand why i'm 36, not married with no kids. Life is not a cookie cutter and everyone is a snowflake(designer's original), so those who dont support me can "KICK ROCKS". I refuse to let a few negative people make me feel bad about a decision i have made for my health. jennifer

what's with the hernias?
I see where a lot of people had hernias repair when they got banded. Did you know about the hernia before you went in for surgery, or was it only discovered after then started the surgery? Is there and exta cost to repair it. I have my pre-op testing on May 6th and was wondering when do you find out a hernia needs repairing? Jennifer

I am self pay as well. I went to the seminar like 4 years ago, but well obviously didnt go thru with the surgery then. I had my initial consult on april 8th.....pre-op testing may 6th....pre-op diet start may 9th and surgery is may 20th! so it should be pretty quick. I got to choose when I wanted my surgery it just had to be on a mon or fri. Jennifer

Wondering What I will look like after I lose!
I have often wondered what I am going to look like. I dont have a goal weight in mind as much as I do a size. Currently I am in 18/20's and would like to be in 12-14's. Cant wait to see if my feet shrink. currenlty in a 9.5( so hard to find that size the jump from 9 to 10 WTH!) I wish I could fast forward time to one year from my surgery date may 20th just to get a glimpse of what I will look like. Jennifer

Shhh..don't tell my PCP!!!
Thanks everyone for your replies. Hmmm i really like the idea of flaunting in front of her once I drop some real weight! LOL! I dont really have many health challenges, so I basically only see her once a year for my annual PAP. So I guess I really dont care what she says and dont have the time or energy to find a new PCP. Now if she starts pissing me off that's a whole nother story!! Wait is nother a real word? LMAO! Thanks for the replies guys! I love this site!!!!!

Shhh..don't tell my PCP!!!
I am going to be self pay, so I didn't have to a referral from my PCP or do the whole insurance 6 month diet thing. Before when I've discussed weight loss with my PCP she just tells me"Oh sweetie if you eat right and exercise, you'll loose weight." DAMN WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT! UGH!!! Anyway! since that's her attitude I havent told her i'm having lap band surgery, but of course when i go in for my annual pap and check up i plan on telling her. Am I being sneaky, should I discuss this with her before i have the surgery, not that anything she can say is gonna change my mind though. i'm just saying! Jennifer

initial consult tomorrow what happens
Hi Steve, I had my initial consult on April 8th. It really wasnt a big deal although i had a lot of nervous energy, which translated into my BP being higher than usual. I met with a patient advocate who had the surgery herself (actually her husband and two kids also had it). She shared her story. I met with the surgeon(who is one of the surgeon's who teaches the others how to do the sugery) so glad about that. He showed me a model of a stomach and the lap band and explained how it worked. He looked over my medical information i filled out and said I was a perfect candidate for the lap band ( 36 years old, height 5'2", weight 240lbs) It's amazing how willing I am to share that number when before you would have to kill me to admit that! LOL! Any how I also met with the dietician who gave me lots of handouts concerning how my eating habits will change and what i could eat and at what stages. I had 4 pages of questions for everyone I spoke to from....have you ever been part of a malpractice suit....to is there anything I wont ever be able to eat again. My surgeon and everyone was really nice. They answered all my questions and I'm sure they get a repeat of the same questions a zillion times a day but i didnt feel like they were tryn to rush me out of the office. My pre-op testing is May 6th. start pre-op diet may 9th, surgery may 20th. I'm self pay so everything moved very quickly for me. Hope this helps! Feel free to message me with an other questions. Jennifer

Learning about Lap-Band
Hi Liz, Welcome! Congrats on making a decision to do something about your health. I researched lap band for 5 years on/off and went to a seminar. My insurance policy excludes all WLS so I am a self pay. Once I met with the surgreon and dietician it was up to me when I had my surgery. I met with them on April 8th and my surgery is May 20th. Being self pay you skip all the hoops insurance companies make you go through. I have my pre-op testing on may 6th and start my pre-op diet may 9th. I'm so excited and cant wait! this forum is an excellent resource. and no question is too stupid! everyone on here is very supportive and this site is additcting. Next to face book I cant stay off this site! LOL! Feel free to keep in touch, not sure what all i can answer since i havent been banded yet, but i'm willing to share whatever you need! Jennifer

Skinny Bucket List
i hear ya on the clothing store. I agree also about the roller coaster. I once went to great america with a friend (male) stood in line for over an hour only to get there and not be able to fit in the seat. OMG! how embarrassed was I. My friend was wonderful. He took his ride. i met him at the bottom and he never once said anything, we went on with our day like nothing happened! LOL

Date is Scheduled!!! May 11th
Congrats. I had mixed emotions when I finally got my surgery date. I feel sometimes mines was easy cuz I'm self pay and didnt have to jump through all the hoops insurance companies make people go through. Anyhow, I start my pre-op diet on may 9th, go for barium swallow and EKG on may 6th, surgery date may 20th. I'm so excited, i hope this next 5 weeks flys by! Jennifer

Skinny Bucket List
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS TOPIC! I was in the process of starting my own list of things I want to do once I lose my weight, now I have a name for my list. Ok let me just start with the first few, cuz i'm sure this list is gonna grow as i think more: 1. cross my legs comfortably. 2. tie my shoe and have to bow in the middle not on the sides( i know someone knows what i mean by this! lol) 3. by clothing out of a store other than Ashley Stewart or Lane Bryant( although AS has some curte clothes) 4. run up a flight of stairs and still be able to hold a conversation immediately after 5. cut my hair (well my weave, cuz i'm not letting that go!), in a cute shorter style. 6. participate in some type of marathon Ok that's all i have for now, but i'll keep thinking

Tattoos...will they look like deflated shrinky dinks? LOL!
I have 3 tattoos and I was wondering what people's experiences were with weight loss and tat's. Do they look deformed because of the weight loss. I love my tat's and would hate to have them looking a hot mess. but if i have to choose between weight loss and tat's, sorry tat's you lose!

First fill received and I am on my way!
Hi was your fill painful. I watched some fills on youtube and the needle looks HUGE! I'm not that concerned about the actualy surgery, but the fills are having me biting my nails. Did you get a numbing agent. What should I expect?

Pigging Out
I'm getting banded on May 20th and i also feel the need to get all my "good" eating out. I'm starting to feel a little guilty about it, but i'm still going to the gym. Luckily I'm a selfpay so i dont have to worry about not being approved or losing a certain amount. I start my pre-op diet on May 9th and I'm already looking in the stores for things I'll need. Best wishes to everybody! I'M SOOOOOOO EXCITED AND CANT WAIT TO BE BANDED!
