9. i can totally relate. I was soooo excited and nervous for my initial consult. I am self pay so my doctor actually doesnt even know i'm having the surgery. in the days leading up to my consult i kept a notebook with me with all my questions. i even asked the surgeon if he had even be part of a malpractice suit! i knew he wasnt i had already googled him! LOL! When i counted the questions I had for the surgeon, dietician and the financial person, i had 50 questions!!!! Noone ever made me feel rushed or like they were tired of answering the same questions i'm sure they get 1 ,000 times a day! I was so nervous/excited that my BP was up! When I went back for pre-op testing it was back to normal. I get banded on the 20th of May, so feel free to PM me with any questions. Jennifer
10. i think insurance companies do this as a way of trying to weed out people who aren't seriously ready to make a life style change. that's one great thing about being self pay i dont have to jump thru their hoops. downside is i will have a $12,500 bill to deal with!
11. I think one of the reason people keep it a "secret" is cuz they just look at it as it's personal and nobody's business, like any other "personal" matter one might deal with. some people cant handle some of the negative feedback they fear they might get. I think everyone is different. I personally choose to tell a few select people for the reason of it being a very personal decision. Hope that shed a little light on the subject.
12. best wishes for a successsful drama free surgery! i know i wont be able to sleep may 19th!
13. my surgery is the 20th. day two wasnt that bad either. someone bought in baked chicken at lunch and i wasnt tempted at all. i even when to the grocery store to pick up some more liquids and Soup and i didnt pick up anything extra except some SF peppermints to fight the bad breathe! LOL! I'm looking at this a challenge to myself and praying I make it the entire way! 10 more days til i'm banded!!!!!!
14. congrats on the pants! whooo hoooo!!!
15. I will be banded on may 20th and i'm concerned about where the port will be placed. i wear underwire bra's and am concerned that this may be a problem Is everyone's port placed differently?
16. My surgeon is kinda strict. My 2 week pre-op diet is liquids only! ugh!! so far i'm on day 2 and i havent killed anyone yet! suprizingly. My surgeon has a 0 pound restriction, meaning if you gain weight from your pre-op testing to the day of surgery he can refuse to do the surgery. I asked the nurse how strict he was about that and she said that's really if you gain 10+pounds, not sure how you could do that on a 2 week liquid diet, but i guess if you did the fool and ate everything in site it's possible! LOL! Are you allowed to have food or just liquids. I'm sure cheating once or twice wouldnt be a problem, but i just wouldnt make a habit of it. I told myself this is my test before the band to see how serious i was(my own personal challenge.) I wish you the best!
17. I wish you the best on your surgery and pray for great success with no complications. I too was not thrilled about telling my family, but I felt someone had to know "just in case". I told my mom and sister and that's it from my familly. I got more support from friends!!!! I do understand you not wanting to share, can you give them an emergency contact number, only to be used in case of emergency, only? Just wondering. Best wishes hun!
18. I was over here on pins and needles wondering what happened! I'm soooooooooooo glad you finally told him and he gave you that response and such support! That is awesome!!!!
19. Thanks lemonchick...my surgery is may 20th! i'm soooo excited and cant wait. When were you banded?
20. Hi Maria. I just found this thread. Just thought I'd give you a quick update on me. May6th I completed my pre-op testing and today i started my liquid diet. so far so good. cant believe my surgery is in 2weeks!!! yikes!!! hope all is well with you!
21. My pre-op diet is liquids only for 2 weeks Unlimited things are: crystal light, suger free kool aid, sugar free cocoa, diet v-8splash, broth Soups, sugar free propsicles/italian ice, sugar free Jello, propel. hope that helps some. today is my first day!
22. Today was day one of my 2 week pre-op diet. My diet is very strict allowing only liquids. So far so good. I stuck to it 100% and even worked out at the gym. Am I being delusional in thinking the whole 2 weeks will be like this. If this is as bad as it gets then I can handle it. What is everyone elses experience with an all liquid pre-op diet. Is it going to get worse?
23.

so far so good with the pre-op diet, although its only day one! lol
24. Well today I started my pre-op all liquid diet. So far it's 6pm and i'm ok. I hear my stomach growling, but it's nothing I cant handle. I had a muscle milk shake for breakfast, chicken broth and SF jello for lunch, just ate a SF popcicle and will have a protein shake for dinner. I've been drinking crystal light as well. I even went to the gym and did 40 minutes of cardio. I'm totally shocked and hope that I can keep this up!
25. i think the thought of food getting "stuck" scared the crap out of me and i my dietician said for me to not eat bread unless it was hard like toast. I love pizza but not at the chance of getting stuck, maybe once i hit goal i'll be more comfortable with the band and will try but not when i'm first allowed solids. thanks!
