that would be sooooo cool! i asked my surgeon if he would take a pic of my stomach once he removed it. he said yes! LOL
  2. I had my psych eval last week. I thought i was going to be a blubbering mess, but i was so afraid that they would thinkg I wasnt mentally stable enough to have the surgery that I forced myself to hold it together!

    UIC Surgeons

Hi has anyone here had a revision from lap band to sleeve at UIC. Specifically with Dr. Hassan.

Is the sleeve really "just as good"

i have the same fear. i am 95% sure I want a sleeve and then I start thinking what if this doesnt work and I dont lose..I cant do another surgery after this one.. ugh!!!! i am going to do a support group this time and pray that is the key that will help me stay on track..
  5. i was self pay for my lap band and will go through insurance for my sleeve. the price you pay is always much lower than what they charge insurance..which is unfair since i still need to pay 20%..ugh!!! best wishes to you
  6. It's my understanding that the port is stitched to your abdominal wall, so how can it flip. Is there something we do to cause it to flip? Is it more likely to happen soon after banding or months/years later. I do not want more surgery and i am curious as to how this happens. to those whose port flipped did you have an symptoms or only found out when you went to get a fill?
  7. ok i thought i was the only one. why is it that healthy foods are hard to get down! UGH!! i have had my band since 2011..it has slipped at least 3 times... currently it is empty and i'm going through the insurance process to get revised to the sleeve! i cant wait to start my new journey!

    Questions for your surgeon

I had a list of 50 questions for my surgeon... my first question was had ever had an malpracitce suits. Here are a few of my others: 1. What size bougie do you use? 2. Will you be able to use any of the same incisions from my band? 3.What are the worse complications that you have seen occur? 4. What Vitamins are recommended after surgery?/ 5. Will I have self adminstered blood thinners after surgery? 6. Will I have JP drain? 7. Will I need an abdominal binder? 8. How much of my stomach will you remove? 9. Do you sew over the staples in the stomach? 10. How frequent are my follow up visits? Hope some of these help!
  9. Hi I apologize in advance if this topic has been discussed. I have my consultation at UIC in chicago tomorrow. Has anyone had a revision from a band to a sleeve with Dr. Masrur at UIC? If so what was your experience?

    UIC Dr. Masrur

i choose Dr. Masrur because he took over my care with my lap band once my orginal surgeon Dr. Elli left and moved to Florida...i finally had my consultation with him last week. I went in with literally 30 questions and he took his time and answered all of them.. i've heard both ways concerning acid reflux that it goes away with the sleeve or lessens of that it stays the same.so i guess it depends on the person.
  11. Congrats one getting to the losers bench! I wish you well in your recovery.
  12. I got my band in May 2011..I am in the process of revising to a sleeve. My experience with the band was once I had to have an unfill due to severe vomiting and acid reflux I never could find my sweet spot again. I get what you're saying about getting it adjusting and mot being able to do that with the sleeve, however getting my band adjusted wasnt working anyway right! So sleeve here I come!
  13. I am starting the process to revise my band to a sleeve. When I got my band i was self pay, however now I have insurance that will cover removal of my band and the revision. I understand that i'm probably going to have to go through all the testing. I have blue cross blue shield..PPO. im wondering if anyone has this insurance and if you were required to do a 6 month diet since I already have the band.
  14. Thank you for your reply. I will try an contact his nurse. I have spoken to Irene 2times on last Monday after her vacation and have not been able to catch her since then. UGH! hopefkully I will have better luck with Karen. If i continue tohave this problem then I will need to look for another surgeon since I dont want these types of issues and we havent even gotten started yet!
  15. Hi it looks like your surgery date is quickly approaching. I have an appointment with Dr. Masrur on Oct 5th. I am starting to feel like I need another office because for a week I have been trying to contact Irene(whom i was told was like his person to go to) and she never calls back. I am very concerned with being able to get a hold of him or office staff if I have questions and thus far it's not looking good. What has been your experience with getting in touch with them?
  16. @KristenLe... thank you so much I looked up my hospital and it is a center of excellence for bariatric surgery.

    Lap band port pain

i was banded 5 years ago and i'm about to start the process to get a revision to a sleeve. I have always had intermittent pain like a burning at my port site. I plan on asking my surgeon what this could be.. please keep me posted if you find out before me.
  19. i've been gone for years...now i'm back because this lap band has got to go!!!

are you doing a conversion to sleeve soon? good luck - work hard - things will improve - kathy

    2. this sucks

      this sucks

I'm in the same boat. Was banded July 2010 and I'm in the process of revising to sleeve. I have motility issues-food is sitting in my esophagus instead of going through. So frustrated with the band-I wish I had known at the start that I was going to have issues with balancing fill levels and searching for the sweet spot. I've done everything now and am waiting for it all to be submitted to insurance.

What's Your Current Band And Fill Size?

From my understanding your band size is determined by your surgeon based on your internal anatomy...the size or how much is it is no revelant to anyone since everyone body responses differently to fills and the band itself.
  22. jennifer1

    Period with fill

My band tends to be tighter during TOM
  23. I was self pay for my band..I haven't looked at my insurance policy yet..but has anyone had their insurance company cover any surgeries such aa TT's or breast lifts?
