Question About The Lap Band ID Card That You Can Get From Allergan
I have a question for those of you that have the card that allergan gives bandsters that allows them to request children's menu items or for cheaper buffet entry. I'm in Australia and I got a band of a different brand (midband) rather than the allergan one. I want to ask my surgeon to provide me with a letter or card that I can show to try to get the cheaper options... Especially because my family is going to a buffet for Christmas day and it's $75 per person! I REALLY don't want to pay $75 for a small plate of food! Anyway, I was wondering if someone could tell me the wording that is on the front and the back of the card so that I can draft something similar to give to my surgeon as an idea about what he could say. Thanks in advance if you can! Rebecca

Reasonable Lap Band Restriction
Oh, and while normally if I'm going to have bread it's multigrain toast, I do sometimes get a sandwich when out for lunch - two slices of white bread, and I haven't had anything close to getting stuck with that.

Reasonable Lap Band Restriction
I still eat sushi and toast. And I have no problem eating chicken breast or any other meats or anything. I've gotten slightly stuck on chicken once, but that was when I was stupidly trying to have leftover chicken schnitzel in the morning. I've also gotten stuck on a hash brown, also in the morning. Only took a couple of mistakes before I realised that breakfast had to be some kind of combination of coffee/tea/protein shake/fruit and nut smoothie, and not chicken or potato!

Headaches After A Gastric Band Fill
I just wondered if anyone else had this. I've had 3 fills now, and after each one, I've got a killer headache for the rest of the day. I have had to take painkillers for it, but once I've gone to sleep, I wake up the next day fine. Is that usual? Does anyone know what causes it?

How To Deal With Lap Band Haters?
"Aww, you would really do that to yourself, just to get to me?" - ultimately your coworker might realise that sabotaging THEMSELF actually has no bearing on your decisions or your weight loss.

Jealousy Issues After Lap Band Surgery ?
I'm glad to hear your husband has complimented you again, and got the ball rolling for his own injury too. I have a friend that has put on weight this past year, and she makes a lot of snippy comments about everything being so "easy" for me because I had surgery... Grr!

Too Big Or Too Small

Calling all A11s!!
I'm back - I've been away and not able to access this site... I still haven't lost any weight, but I did have a bit of an ephiphany while away on my vacation... I've been relying on the band to tell me when to NOT eat, but I now realise I should have been relying on it to tell me WHEN to eat. Make sense? No?! But here's the thing... Before, I would have breakfast because it was breakfast time. I'd try to make a healthy choice about what to eat, and I'd eat slowly until the band told me to stop. But after a couple of REALLy bad decisions while away, I resolved to not eat "because it's breakfast time" or "because I'm at a cafe" or "because the menu looks really tasty"... Instead, I'm not eating ANYTHING until my BODY tells me its hungry. THEN I make the healthy decision, and eat until the band tells me to stop. BIG DIFFERENCE! I'm probably eating half what I was eating before having this realisation!

I Hate Exercise! Need Suggestions!
With a 3yo daughter, zumba is a great idea because she'll probably like to do it too! My just-turned-4yo loves to zumba with me!

The Rough Stuff!
My surgeon seemed to think that I could go back to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training after the surgery. I'm almost 4 months out and not sure yet if I'd be able to do it. My port doesn't hurt from pressure like leaning, but I'm definitely aware of it. Especially - as someone mentioned above - if I overeat. I'm going to give BJJ a try early February when my daughter goes back to school and I can do day classes. Here's hoping!

Anyone been overweight their ENTIRE life?
I was a solid toddler - not fat but not particularly petite either. I know by the time I was 7yo I was getting chunky, and when I was 10 I passed 60kg (132lbs). At that point, I was definitely overweight and have never been a "normal" weight since. The lightest I have been was 5 years ago - I was exercising 21 hours a week and doing Jenny Craig, and I lost a lot of weight, but I got stuck at 72kg (158lbs). For my height, in order to be "healthy" weight, I had to get under 69kg (152lbs). I tried and tried and tried and I just could NOT get under 72kg. I was stuck there for 5 months before I got pregnant and put on over 30kg (66lbs)... And I hardly lost any of it.

Who Knows And What Do You Tell People After Lap Band Surgery...
I told all my family, my in-laws, and all my friends. I figure I'll need support through it all, and those are who I'm counting on for it! Plus, if my journey can help someone else who is battling with their weight, then that's a good thing! Since the surgery, I haven't told many new people. I had one friend blurt it out to a lady I had only just met for the first time that day, and that felt weird. I've met a large number of people in the past few weeks, and I haven't told any of them - when there has been food served at events, I've just declined with "No thanks, I'm not really a big fan of this type of dish..." or something vague like "Sorry, I've got some tummy troubles and can't really eat that." I'm going to be spending time with these people for years (new job, new school), so I figure if I put out the vague "tummy troubles", they won't be surprised if my eating seems a little "weird" to them in the future...

Does the hunger ever stop
My surgeon told me to eat to my hunger in the first couple of months. He said I was just healing, and there was no reason to expect the band to be doing its job while I'm healing and it's only minimally filled. He told me to make healthy choices, but that if I was hungry after dinner, to go ahead and have some supper. And to just not expect too much weight loss until the fills start and we can get the band working with me. He was right - I lost weight on the pre-op diet and in the couple of weeks immediately post-op, then I plateaued. I've now broken the plateau (with the 3rd fill), I'm out of bandster hell, and the band and I are working well together!
