  1. You are probably not doing anything wrong. It is just your body adjusting to the lifestyle changes you have made. I have had several stalls. I think I can contribute mine to carbs. I find that I do better keeping low carb under 50 grams a day. I am still trying to increase my calories as I just cannot each that much yet. I do measure and find that I am still losing inches. I am not gaining so it is still a victory for all the weight that I have already lost. Hang in there.

    Farewell food tour

I did a farewell tour a little bit also. Ate at my favorite mexican restuarant. Went to Cracker Barrell for breakfast. Five Guys burger and fries. I am now 3 months out and have venture out a little bit but definately eating much smaller amounts. I really watch what I order now and make good choices. I had a 7 day liquid diet before surgery and this satsified my cravings and made the preop diet a little more tolerable.
  3. I didn't have this problem but a thought? Are you on birth control pills and can you keep taking them? I was told for like someone who was getting married and expecting this during the honeymoon is that they could continue taking the pill-not the one week for when you get yours but the others. Just a thought.

    Flatout Flatbread-anyone tried it?

I have been making pizza's with mine. With a little bit of spaghetti sauce (I was out of tomato sauce) with cheese, bacon bits, chicken italian sausage, and turkey pepperoni. My husband and I split one. Only 5 minutes in the oven. Satisfies my craving for pizza and a lot lower in carbs.

    NSV For Me...

It feels good working out. We had a new gym just open up down the road from us with a $1.00 sign up and $10.00 a month which included unlimited fitness trainer. I have committed to 2x a weeks and already met with the trainer. She was very open regarding the surgery and set me up with a good workout taking in consideration that we cannot eat a lot and have to be careful on how many calories we burn during a workout until we can increase our calories. I have just got up to 800 calories daily. Keep up the good work!

    Can't I just Move on?

Don't be afraid of the medications after surgery. Most will only be temporary. After surgery, of course there is the the pain medications for a week or how ever long you made need them. I did blood thinner shots for 14 days to prevent blood clots. I took liquid nexium to prevent acid reflux. I have switched to Prilosec OTC after 2 months-my doctor recommends for 6 months after surgery. And I take 2 multi Vitamins and calcium caltrate daily and B12 weekly. I do still take a cholestral medication which I will have labs drawn next month and hopefully will be able to stop. I have already stopped my diabetis medication. That only is the best reason for me having this surgery. If I have to continue with a Vitamin and such for the rest of my life-so be it. I would do this all over again.

Easter Sunday - WHAT WILL YOU WEIGH???

Of Course, I joined the challenge and immediately had a stall. But the scale finally moved for me yesterday. SN..............Starting Wt........Current.......Goal.......Lbs to Goal klus263........178.6..................176.4..........165......11.6................
  9. I just had a 3 month follow up with my nut today. She was saying that 1-3 pounds loss a week is good. I am only able to eat around 800 a calories a day. She suggest smaller meals with snacks-not grazing. You will still need to document all food eating. I am to have at least one snack per day of a small fresh fruit and with at least one meal up to 1/2 cup of non-starchy vegetable with my protein. I was currently focusing on all proteins and not eating any fruit or vegetable. She said carbs around 60-90 per day is okay. Exercise is definately important-walking if you don't do anything else. I live in an apartment so I walk the parking lot during my lunch break for 20 minutes. Better than nothing. I have also just joined a gym-going 2 days a week. This is a tool and we still need to watch what we eat. Hang in there. You are losing.

    I know stalls are normal....but....

I think I stall every other week... I know it is not fun. I just had a 2 week stall but finally lost 2 pounds the last 2 days. I had to up my calories and I have to really watch my carbs. My latest stall started when I started working out but I still lost 3 1/2 inches in the past 2 weeks so even though the scale did not move the tape measure did. Hang in there it will move again.
  11. When I started my journey, I was going to have the band. But with my first visit with the surgeon, he suggested the sleeve and my insurance had just recently approved coverage for it. I came home and did my research. After weighing the risk and complications of both surgery and discussing with my husband-I chose the sleeve. I am so grateful for making that decision. I have no limitations on food except for what I chose. I am following my diet closely and have lost 56 pounds so far and I have only been sleeved for 3 months. I have never vomited, regurtitated, slimed my food. I don't have to make appointments for fills/worry about slippage/rejection/breakage. Some people are very succesful with the band-but I have only seen one-everyone else I know has had complications and had revisions to the sleeve. I know you will need to make your own decision and good luck but I do not regret having the sleeve instead of the band.

    Chronic indigestion

Are you on any type of PPI? I was taking Nexium and just recently switched to Prilosec OTC. Also I found that I had issues when I was eating to fast even if it was small bites. Put the fork/spoon down after every bite. This was the hardest thing I had to learn and somedays I still forget. Hang in there, it will get better.

    Only 2 pounds this month

I am in the same boat right now. I have been in a stall for a few weeks. I was averaging around 600-700 calories/protein 60-80/and fluids. I finally was able to eat enough to hit 800 calories for 3 days and dropped my carbs back down to around 30 grams. I finally lost a 1 pound today. I like the advice of keeping the calories varied day to day. Hang in there!
  14. This is what I remember for surgery. Rolling down the hallway to the OR, moving to the table, then I was in my room and they were putting the compression stockings on me. I don't even remember recovery at all. As for the blood clots, my doctor prescribed Lovenax. This was a self injectible blood thinner I had to take for 14 days after surgery. They also required us to to walk within 4 hours after surgery and to walk every 2-4 hours while in the hospital. I started walking after I got to my room and by late afternoon I was actually walking every hour. I did not have a pain pump but they did give me a great pain killer every 4 hours and I hardly had any pain. Good Luc.

    Weight loss before surgery?

I had Aetna and did not have to show any significant weight loss. I did lose a few pound over the 6 months. Now my employer has added a twist and we must have surgery at a "Quality facility" by the Insurance company standards. There are only 2 in the state, 100 and 300+ miles away and the closer one has less qualified doctors then the office we are working with. This is crazy as my local hospital is a "center of Excellance" per Medicare standards which is even tougher guidelines. Now we are trying to get the hospital an approved "quality" center. So this is putting my husband surgery off while they go through certification. So we have to continue the monthly PCP visit until they get approved. I hope they don't take too long. He is a bear to live with since this blip appeared.

    Baby food during pureed stage?

I looked at the baby food when I was getting ready for the pureed stage. I did not find anything that had a lot of protein in it so I stuck with scrambled eggs with cheese, mashed potatoes with cheese. We were not allowed meat until we got to the soft food stage after 4 weeks.

    One week Pre-Op

Congrats to you for being prepared mentally. I am very similar to you, I weighed 222 when I started the preop diet. I will be 48 tomorrow. I am thinking 125 but I have revised to 130-140 based on my body shape-125 might be to skinny for my build. I always made sure I had something to drink and when I had to cook for my husband-I drink some chicken broth prior to cooking so I did not get hungry. Also my husband let go out shopping a lot so he could eat while I was gone. Good luck - before you know it you will be on the other side.

    I met a 4-year sleever today

I am just short of 3 months sleeved. At our last support group we sat in small groups and talked with others who have been sleeved and/or wating to get sleeved. One thing I do that others did not is I journal and actually meaure my foods-when I am home. We do not eat out often. I do not crave the junk food. I really look at the nutrition labels to make sure I am eating healthy. I do eat in much smaller volumes. I am down 54 lbs and I have no plans to go back to being fat again. This tool does work but it is work. But I am willing to do what I have to lose and keep off the weight. At lot of it is really are you willing to do what is necessary to lose and keep the weight off. For example-my doctor's says no to soda-even flat soda. I have not had a soda since November 23. Why start again. I know others do drink sodas but for me, I don't want to have the cravings again so I will avoid them. It is all a matter of personal choice. This is also why I will continue to attend my monthly support groups for accountability. Besides, as I get further out, others are now looking at me and I want to show them how succesful this can be.

    Mini Donuts - Eggface Rocks!

I have done the egg bites and pancake bites. My husband even likes them and he is not weight loss patient-yet.
  20. My BMI was 37. I had diabetes. My highest weight was close to 250. But you could not tell I was that big by looking at me. I had my surgery Dec 1st. I have already lost a total 54 pounds (both pre and post op). My BMI is currently 30.7. I feel great and am looking great. I still want to lose another 40-50 to get me a normal range. This was the best decision I ever did and wish I had started this earlier but my insurance just started covering the sleeve this year. Good Luck.

    Fab 40's shout out

I will be 48 tomorrow. I just celebrated my 27th wedding anniversary this past Friday. I have a 25 and 22 yr old daughters. My youngest is getting married in October and I hope to be at goal for the wedding. I have 40-50 pounds to go and have already lost a total of 54. I am loving my sleeve. This was the best thing I have ever done. My husband is currently in his 6 month diet program and we hope to have him sleeved sometime in April. He calls me a cheap date right now as we share meals.
  22. I had issues with crystal light or any type of sweetners when I was first sleeved. It did go away after a month. I still prefer water but I can use the propel drink tubes that is not bad.
  23. I use Miralax twice a week. It is the best.
  24. I see by your profile that you are in GA.. In Birmingham AL, I used Dr Scmitt at Alabama Weight Loss.....website is www.alabamawls. He has never had a leak and any complications was due to non-compliance with the program. We have a monthly support group and the coordinator is an actual weight loss patient-gastric.. Check him out. The office staff is very good and responds to phone and email request promptly.

    What can happen if....

I am currently getting all of my protein from food and not shakes. You should keep a diary and make sure you are getting enough protein that way. I would tally in the evening and if I was low than my snack would be a shake.
