  1. At four weeks I was was on solid food. If you cannot tolerate Protein drink work on the protein in real food. Try 4 meals a day with at least 15 grams at each meal. For example for Breakfast, I used 1/4 c egg beaters, 1 tbsp bacon bits, 1/4 cup cheese scrambled. This was 17 grams of protein. for lunch I use the sliced deli meats with a cheese stick-again around 16 grams of protein. for supper-3 oz of chicken with 1/4 c of gravy-18 grams of protein. I used schredded cheese a lot to add more protein. A slider made of lean ground hambuger with melted cheese 19 grams of protein, I focused just on the protein the first few months, It took me at least 3 months to even get to 800 calories a day. Try carnation instant sugar free breakfast drink with adding dry milk for extra protein. Hang in there. There are others ways to increase protein without using Protein drinks.

SURGERY ON 09/02-I HAVE NO PROBLEMS?

I also was a lucky one with no major complications. I did have find that if I ate to fast I would get the burps but I can live with that. I do have to be careful with breads/buns that sit kinda heavy. I was also diabetic on medication. The year before surgery my A1c was 7.0 and at my 6 month follow up I was 5.2. It is a wonderful feeling. I have found that at 8 months I stopped losing weight. I have tried all the tricks posted but I am happy with where I at. I can wear 8-10 pants and in a size 14 top/dress. I love looking at myself in the mirror. I just wish my thinking would change on how I look in pictures (I think I still look heavy). Good Luck.
  4. They also found several small tumors in my stomach during surgery which we did not know that I had. I was lucky that the pathology came back benign but if left it could had eventually turned into something more serious. I am so grateful for this surgery.
  5. Absolutely. I was sleeved Dec 1st and my husband was sleeved on March 30. Neither of us have any regret in our decision. I did have co-mobidities that resovled within weeks of surgery. Everybody is different on how they react to a life altering surgery, I was lucky and had no major complications. Sometimes there is so much advice that your head can spin, so the best advise is listen to your doctor and your body and do what is best for you. Good Luck.

    Torani syrup--where to find them?

I have found some at the Neighborhood Walmart Grocery store. I also bought them at World Market or in some areas it is called Cost Plus World Market. I love them. Good Luck.

    Is It True???

Our office does not recommend drinking soda. My husband was addicted so he gave it up for good and will not indulge. He does not want to gain his weight back and this can be the start to going back to bad habits. We were told that soda can increase the risk of ulcers. I know we have used coke to clean the connectors of our battery cables. Just think of what this can do to our stomach. I love how I am looking and even though I crave a taste every once in a whlle I have made the decision not to indulge. I think it is a personal decision for each person to make. Good Luck.

    White or Dark Chicken?

As most say, white meat is leaner in fat but I am liking the chicken thighs. I have combined both in some of my crockpot meals. My walmart has just started carrying boneless, skinless chicken thigh strips.....Even at 9 months I am probably only eating about 4 oz of meat along with a small amount of vegetables. At that stage, I looked more at the protein then the calorie count.
  9. After surgery I could not tolerate the protein mixes. I used sugar free carnation instant breakfast and added 1/3 cup of dry milk powder to increase the protein. I know it was higher in carbs that what they recommended but it got my fluid and protein in. I also added the dry milk mix to chicken broth and added it to tomato soup when I was still on the liquid diet. I could not tolerate any juices at first as they were too sweet for me. I worked on fluids and then adding the protein. I also use the sugar free torina syrups to flavor the drinks (i get mine at World Market or in other areas they call them Cost Plus world Market. My weight loss was slow also in the beginning and I had gained 12 lbs with the iv fluids so I had to lose that to get back to even again. Hang in there.
  10. My gurgles was the worst right after surgery. I am now 9 months out and still at time get gurgles but it is not as bad. I work from home as a customer service rep and also on a headset all day talking to people. I have not have anyone say that they could here my gurgles. As other as pointed out, it seems to be worse when I eat too fast or when I am trying a new food. I also think it happens more to me when I have fruit. Keep a food diary and write down when it happens so you can see if it actually food related. I had the gurgles both on and off the PPI.

    tomato soup

I avoided it for the first few weeks while my stomach was healing. The most I could it was only 1/4 c at that time. I loved the progress healthy parmesan tomato. I added another tbsp of parmensan to add additional protein also. My husband who hates tomato soup really liked it and also ate it after he had surgery.
  12. I lived in Metairie from 2002 to 2005-Hurricane Katrina...now in Birmingham, AL...it looks to just be rainmaker with Lee from what I can see. I watch closely as my daughter still lives in Kenner and my sister is on the West Bank. They will call you on Monday even if it is a holiday if they will be cancelling elective surgery from what I am familiar with in the past. You should be just fine. We will start seeing the rain sometime on Sunday up here. Good Luck.

    First negative comment

Congrats on your weight loss and your gracious way in handling a negative comment. I have yet to come to deal with this situation but I am hoping that I can be as dignified as you. You made a very good comment back to them and made them think.

    NSV....in the Mail today.

It took awhile but I finally had to go to the website for Woman Within to have them quit sending me catalogs. I love it. I bought today a size 8 pair of shorts. Holy Crap!!! I have never been size 8. Of course I just read an article about "vanity sizing" and how a size 12 back in the 80's is now a 6-8-10. Either way I am no longer in the Plus size shop in any store. Congrats!
  15. Do not feel bad about checking out another office. Most of your dealing with an office will be with the office staff and not the doctor. No way you should be submitted anything directly to your insurance for a precertification. This should be coming all from the doctor's office as supporting documentation for approval for the surgery. My husband had to switch doctors in the middle of his 6 month diet due to company guideline changes. The insurance company paid for the second consult. My doctor's office did not have their information updated on paper but they had all the information regarding the procedures included the insurance companies that were approving it. My doctor actually recommended it over the band which is what I was first looking at as he knew my insurance and changed and was now covering it before I even did. Good Luck
  16. I am sorry that your sugery is being delayed. Was there something in the pysch eval for them to want you to attend an emotional eating class? This is hard and I found that even though I did not think I was an emotional eater, I do have issues when I am bored and find that I want to constantly graze. There was some underlying food issues I did not realize. Think of this as one more step that will help you to make the sleeve successful for you. Hang in there!

    Too cold - post op

Yep....I had surgery Dec 1st....I use to be in flannel pajamas, socks and slippers wrapped in a blanket after surgery. My husband use to laugh at me. Since his surgery he now understands and he keeps a sweatshirt in the car. For the summer we usually have the air set on anywhere between 80-82 during the day and fine with just a ceiling fan and sometimes I have to turn off the fan because we get cold. I have been starting to buy sweators and such at the thrift store to stock up for the winter. I am seriously considering buying an electric blanket for the winter. And I live in Alabama. But I rather be cold and wear layers and still look thin then be hot and fat. LOL

    Frustrated with United Healthcare

Just make sure you have all of this in writing with an approval or precert number. I know from past experience working in the medical insurance area, that it always best to have the document showing approval. Good Luck, the hard work will all be worth it.
  19. I use just a single piece with peanut butter and either a little bit of jelly or honey. We prefer the 7 grain crisp n light. We have also just found at the local grocery store, the sandwich thins as minis-the size of a slider. Just one is only 50 calories and 11 g of carb.

    Anyone from Alabama?

I live in Calera, AL (just south of Birmigham)...I had my surgery with Dr Schmitt in Trussville December 1st. I had a wonderful experience with him, his office and the hospital.

    On my mind.

Is there really anything else to say after reading Tiffykins. I was planning on the lap band as my insurane did not cover the sleeve when I first started this journey. Two months before I had surgery, my surgeon recommended the sleeve over the band and my insurance had recently added it as an option for weight loss surgery. Once I looked and compared complications, I never looked back. My husband who had a different doctor will no longer even do the band and his PA told us even the maker of the band no longer does them. I do not miss my stomach and have never regretted doing the sleeve over the band. Good luck in making your decision but my vote is the sleeve!

    Is this full or sick?

It sounds like a wonderful soup. Just be careful, I tried a crab bisque and it was very rich and unknowingly full of fat so it became very uncomfortable but the few bites I did have it was wonderful. Just take your time and enjoy the friendship around you. I work from home now and miss that type of friendship and luncheons.
  23. Wow...this is awesome. My body went into maintainance short of 10 lbs of my goal. I have tried but I am boucing around at 155. Though to be honest, my collar bones are very visable and if I would lose any more in that area I would probably start looking sickly. My extra weight seems to be hanging around my belly area but I am still wearing a size 10 which I have not done that since before high school. So am not going to worry about the last few pounds. I am still healthy and doing things I never could even a year ago. Congrats and good luck.
  24. I was using miralax every few days to help keep me soft (I know, TMI) but have now switched to the walmart brand of benefiber. I use the clear which I mix 1 tablespoon in the morning with 16 oz of Water and/or with a drink mix powder to flavor my water and then again in the afternoon. This mixes well and has no taste what so ever. I cannot eat enough fruit or veggies to get my Fiber in any other way. I may not go everyday but this was the only way I could get in enough fiber without causing serious pain. I had a hiatal hernia repair at the time of my sleeve and if we push/strain too much I could get another. Now my husband does not have an issue at all with his plumbing (LOL) and he does not take any extra fiber at all. I just do this when I take my Vitamins. As for the scale. I gain and lose all during the day (for me this is normal) so I just keep to morning and night weighing....It is an addicition I can not give up but I understand. As long as I am not gaining and not losing it again, I am not going to worry. Good Luck
  25. I love the quote!!! Congratulations. Onderland is a great place to be!. Keep up the good work.
