Do VSGers need Medical Alert Bracelets?
I don't have a bracelet, but my surgeon provided a sticker to attached to the back of my driver's license. It simply says Patient has Lab Sleeve Gastrectomy. No NG Tube w/o calling xxx-xxx-xxxx. Fluid capacity 60cc or less/limit NSAIDS and then my surgeon's name. Deb

How long did you stay in the hospital?
I was the hopsital one night. I went back to see my surgeon 9 days later to remove my staples. I will see him again in 2, 6, and 12 months to check my labs. After that it will be just once a year to check lab values. Deb

Drain?
I stayed overnight in the hospital, but my drain was taken out by the time I left the hospital the next morning. There was no pain just felt kinda weird when the nurse pulled it out. I also had to give myself blood thinner injections of Arixtra for seven days post op to prevent blood clots. Which was a surprised to me when I went to my first consult with my surgeon. I didn't find out until I had my pre op educational class. Wow... at first I was very unsure about giving myself an injection, but really it was no big deal. I don't know how many people actually had to do this. I believe my surgeon is very cautious. Which is OK with me. Deb

Pre-op liquid diet (Opti Fast) starts 2morrow...
It's totally a mind game like Bit of a Diva said. Plus my surgeon's office said if our livers did not shrink enough they might not be able to preform the surgery. Well that kept me very focused. There's was no way in hell they were gonna start my surgery, but have to stop because my liver was to big to retract out of the way. Now that might have been a scare tactic on their part, but it worked for me. So keep that in mind your liver needs to shrink so your surgeon can get to your stomach. Best wishes and good luck on the pre op diet. Deb

A little LOST! - Any tips
I too am one of the ones who barely had any pain. I stop my morphine drip in the hospital after about 12 hours and used the script pain meds for a day or two when I got home. I was off from work for two weeks, but could have gone back in a week if I had to. I walked the first night at the hospital and been walking ever since. I walk for a half of a hour on my lunch break everyday. I have not been cleared for anything else, but as soon as I am I will be hitting the gym. I am now 3 weeks post op today and I feel and look great. Good luck and best wishes on your surgery tomorrow!!!!! Deb
