Bad Breath
Ladies, no doubt you are in ketosis if you are on a high Protein , low carb program. If you are in doubt go to the drug store or Walmart and pick up some ketone test strips. I am currently in my 10th week post -op and so far my breath is as bad as ever. The upside to the story is I'm losing weight like crazy. In the pass two weeks I have lost 16 pounds and I have never had a stall. All total since my pre-op on August the 3rd I have lost 75 pounds. I try to keep Listerine breath strips and chewing gum with me at ALL TIMES. LOL. I think as long as our carbs are low our breath will be funky. As soon as we start adding more carbs the funkiness should go away. Good luck!!!! Deb

Barely One Month Ago...
That's AWESOME, Irene. Thanks for sharing. I know exactly how you feel. This is a wonderfully tool we have received and I hope each of us take full advantage of it . I KNOW I AM AND IT LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE TOO!!!! I went clothes shopping the other week, becuz seriously my clothes were at the point of being just way to big. I had to buy new everything. I mean bras, panties, tops and jeans. Here's what I thought was kinda funny I went down two shoe sizes since surgery. Who woulda thunk? LOL. Here's what what I thought wasn't quite as funny I went down one cup size in the bra department. Here's my boobies? He he. LIKE YOU I FEEL AWESOME!!! Girl we are working our SLEEVES!!!! Keep it up baby girl!!! Deb

Outpatient Surgery
Hi there. While I personally did not have mine done as an outpatient there are some people who have and I hope they chime in. My surgery was done at 7:30 in the morning and I left the hopsotal by 6:00 pm the NEXT NITE. I would have left earlier, but my potassuim levels ,because of the kind of IV the nurses were giving me became to high. With that being said. I am one of the people who hardly had pain, but I loved the fact I was in the hospital for just that short period of time. The nurses came by every two hours to check my vitals, to give me my injections of blood thinner, to change my IV of pain killer, to check my drain, to give me ice chips, to help me in every way. I felt comfort in knowing if anything went wrong after surgery at least I was still at the hosptial. Like I said before there are some peeps who did have surgery as outpatients and they can get you their experience. GOOD LUCK!!!! Deb

Today's Food Finds
Thanks for sharing. I need to improve on my fluids so I will try the herbal Water at World Market. I need something light and fresh. I'm in Kansas City and I don't think we have a Trader Joe's, but the chicken and apple sausage sounds yummy. Have you found it at others places? Deb

Sugar Free Popsicles
Oh yes.... the Crystal Light popsicles are very good. That's what save me too the first couple of weeks. I think someone here on the boards said each popsicle is equal to 2oz. of liquid. Deb

recovery time off work?
I totally think it depends on what kind of work you do. I work in a clerical setting and could have gone back after a week, but My FMLA papers stated I could have up to 4 weeks off. I went back after 2, but if I had to 1 week was doable. Good luck. Deb

UPDATE: I'm going to have LapBand surgery instead
BEST WISHES DAVE. I can only assume this was not a easy decision to make. I personally know two people who have the lapband and are doing very good. The weight loss is slower, but that's how they wanted it. GOOD LUCK. Deb

Extubation
Welcome Amber, I am so happy you have joined us. I have BIG tonsils and was a little concerned about the breathing tube going in and out. I woke up in the recovery room and the tube was gone. It was no BIG deal. I think you will be just fine. Deb

2 wks post & unable to move to mushies...
You will feel alot better with some Protein to start the day. The best protein I take is the unjury chicken soup. I would be lost without it. However the soduim is outrageous and you need to drink gallons of Water to counteract the soduim. Which is good. Good luck. Deb

Wait, why sugar free?
It's a very good book. My nut actually recommended it. Some other good books are Mindless Eating Why We Eat More Than We Think by Brian Wansink, PhD and the Emotional First+ Aid Kit by Cynthia L. Alexander, PsyD. Deb

Frightened by anyting more than liquids...
OC, you will be alright!!! When you scramble that egg more than likely you will not be able to eat the whole thing. I am amazed at how little I can eat before I am full. You will probably eat 1/4 of a cup of cottage cheese and then you will be full and you will not want anymore. Believe me. Also my nut told me to look for signs you are full such as sighing, yawning and nose watering and there are some other ones too. Good luck. Deb

1 week out today! Way different than I expected!
My nut told me do not worry about the protein for a couple of weeks. YOU DO NEED TO GET THE WATER IN THOUGH!!! Each day will get better and better. Deb
