Family and food post-op
Hello all, I'm working on a presentation and wanted to gather as much input as I can. Any opinions, tidbits, tips and hints are greatly appreciated! I'll likely post this in another area of this site as well... Thanks so much! Melisa What has been your experience with the after effects of surgery on your family? How do you accommodate your pouch/sleeve/band while cooking for your family? What are ways that you've changed the family diet as a result of your procedure? What are some favorite recipes you've modified to make healthier and how?

I still feel FAT
Hang in there! Give yourself a break... you are still recovering and the loss will happen. I think we get our hopes up that it will fall off quickly and for those of us who go at a slower pace, it is frustrating. Just to give you a heads up so you can prepare now, there will be times of stall. You have to understand that's a given and just prepare mentally now. I was a fast loser at times and others I sort of just stalled. While I was stalled on the scale I was moving in inches. I am 5.5 months out now and am still learning how to feed myself properly. I've not ever done the Protein shakes so I can't offer any insight on them. I'm glad you can do them! Good luck, Melisa

14 months out - with photos (you didn't expect there NOT to be pictures)
Great job, isn't it nice to focus on things other than being consumed by food instead of the other way around? I felt like food was eating me alive!

How often did you change clothes sizes?
I didn't change sizes for a long time! It was discouraging but I seem to be in the pattern of if I am losing weight my sizes/inches stay the same... if I am not losing weight I am losing sizes/inches. I hit my first stall a couple weeks ago and in two weeks dropped 3 sizes. That was just bizarre! So I started at a 20 and yesterday bought a 10 shorts and am now in Medium tops.

3 Month Update
I'm sorry for your loss and glad for your loss (of pounds)! Life has a way of throwing us curveballs and looks like you did a fabulous job. Healing from your sibling's death will take time, the relationship too, but you are on a life changing course... there's no turning back! Continued success on the weight loss!

New mushie food
Yum! What a good thread. I did the variety of meatball thing, too. That's how I introduced meat to my kids when they were babies and it worked for me as well!

5 a day: is it possible?
I agree with Black Berry... I love veggies, not so much fruit and cannot do the protein drinks. Sneaking in veggies and fruits came fairly easily since I've done it for my kids.

The only person to fail at this surgery
you know, i had a bit of a rough go of it for a few weeks post-op. my anatomy felt all wrong and the plumbing was not working right. hell, i couldn't eat right until 3.5 months out. my major breakdown came when i was making food for my husband and kids and knew i couldn't eat what i was making... i cried. now i'm over it. the thing that happened was time, learning and acceptance. i'm so very happy i had the surgery and my suspicion is as you learn how to use it you will be, too!

Onderland
YAY! Jerry! Congratulations!!! How's it going out west?

i'm going to fail....
I think when you look at how much you have to lose it is daunting and feels like you'll never get there. Break it down into smaller increments and it'll feel achievable. When I am feeling ill it is always a bit bleaker than when I'm feeling in control of my health. Good luck and hang in there, you're still learning the ropes!

My story and lots of questions
Plannergirl... I didn't broadcast my details, but I didn't keep it a secret. I told my neighbors because I need help with my kids and activities. I just answered questions and haven't met much in the way of negativity. I wish you well and know you'll figure out the right thing to say or not say.

How to tell my PCP after the fact
My husband is a doc and I think a lot of people treat them with a sort of mystique. They're just detectives for the body and you're all right, you employ them! I have a ton of respect for my husband, he's a good doc by all accounts I've heard, but personally I don't like my PCM. She has a bee in her bonnet that I had the surgery at all. Once I'm back from vacation she's getting fired. Well, I'm just going to ask for a new PCM, I'll be nice.
