@@haliib Most insurance plans will cover surgery with a BMI over 40 (even if no comorbidities). The requirements of each plan can be different - so that will be specific to your plan (if you need a supervised weight loss program). I would call your insurance and get coverage details and find a surgeon who is part of a Center of Excellence. You often have to attend an informational seminar at the surgeon's office before scheduling an appointment. I think it's great you're getting control of your obesity now - before you have comorbidities to deal with! Good luck!

Please get help for yourself and your son. You are being emotionally abused. Even worse, your son is WATCHING this abuse. As long as you continue to take it, your child is learning that treating a woman like this is ok and/or normal behavior.
You don't deserve this nor does he. Please, please, please don't continue to put up with this behavior.

You do not deserve to be treated in this manner.
I highly recommend some couples counseling. He does not have permission to abuse you: verbally or physically, EVER.
If this is how he behaves under stress then either he needs help right now and/or you are better off without him.

That's BS. He's putting you down because he's scared you are going to gain confidence and decide you are worth more than his garbage.
I don't know if he's normally a decent guy, and just being a jerk now. If he's typically a jerk, you deserve better. If he's normally a good person, call him on his behavior. Tell him that you have no intention of leaving him, and just want to be healthy so you can be there for your family and future grandbabies (and whatever other reasons you have). Tell him this ugly behavior is beneath him, and you want the caring, supportive man you love back. You may want to consider couple's counseling.

I'm neither RD nor pro chef, but I won't let that stop me now.
Oatmeal fine, but not by the bucketful. I add a few raisins, splenda, cinnamon. Or a few raisins and a few drops of Torani sugar-free gingergbread Syrup. Or whatever flavor, with or without raisins.
Smoked salmon or other smoked fish. I do eat Wasa and Ryvita crispbread and will spread on a tad of tofuffi and smoked fish.
Leftover fresh salmon or any other Protein. Shrimp, crawfish.
What do you do with eggs? I'll make an omelet with spinach and lowfat feta seasoned with a dash of oregano (preferably Greek for the Mediterranean flavor), maybe some chopped Tomato. I use olive oil for the pan. Remember that eggs are a universal go-with. (I saute the spinach and tomato a bit before pouring in the egg.)
A simple version of shakshuka -- which is simple anyway -- if you've got leftover, flavorful (i.e., spicy as you may like) chunky tomato-veg sauce as well as a little time. Shakshuka is a great dinner or weekend brunch, too.
Another variation: saute finely chopped onion, pour in the beaten egg and cook with some smoked salmon.
Anything that will give you a good dose of Protein. It doesn't have to be what Americans generally think of as "breakfast" food.

If your dietitian says to avoid starchy foods, then avoid starchy foods. Your dietitian isn't just "one person" that you should decide to disregard, your dietitian is a crucial member of the team you should be trusting to lead you to weight loss and health. Why would you throw away your dietitian's advice in order to follow the advice of random internet strangers?
Also, IMO being "bored" with food shouldn't be much of a consideration right now. You should be eating for health and weight loss, not entertainment. It is okay to not be entertained by your food. If you need to switch it up, are there high-protein, low carb options you can look at, like tuna or salmon salad, chicken breast with green veggies, turkey sausage or bacon? Cottage cheese? Ricotta bake? It might help to go away from traditional "breakfast" type foods if you want more options.
    Good luck!

I have not had true hunger but yes your head can mess with you.
The best thing to do is make sure you take acid medicine. Sometimes acid can mimic hunger.
If you aren't sure if it's true hunger or head hunger drink some Protein. If the hunger goes away then it was true hunger if you still have that feeling then its head hunger. Best to come up with a plan, take a walk, start a craft or something to occupy your time.

@@ccraw106 - It depends on healthy you are now.
I planned on taking two weeks off (I don't have any heavy lifting in my job) but I was back at work in 24 hours.
Now, caveat, I was in really good shape for a fat guy (i.e. no health problems), I liked Isopure (green tea) so I was able to get 80g of Protein a day by drinking two of them a day so my energy level never waned from day one.

I took a month off, mostly because my employer would pay me for a month off. I could have went back after 2 weeks, but it would have been hard. I could have easily gone back after 3 weeks, no problem. But hey, a paid month off is a paid month off!

It really depends on your insurance policy. You need to get your hands/eyes on the "plan document" or "member benefit handbook" and read about bariatric surgery under your specific plan.
Assuming your plan covers bariatric surgery -- and that is a big assumption -- the most typical policy rule is that you only need co-morbidities such as high blood pressure or diabetes with a BMI under 40. So, don't lose any weight before your initial consult with a surgeon!
Your plan may require you to have 3 or 6 months of supervised weight loss or dietary counseling before your surgery, but that will fly by before you know it.
You definitely want to get your plan documents and make an appointment with a bariatric surgery center of excellence for an initial consult. They should have an insurance coordinator on staff who will be knowledgeable about requirements.
This is all on the assumption that you are planning to use an insurance policy to pay rather than self-pay. If you are paying for this out of your own pocket, you will have no trouble finding a great surgeon to work with you. Good luck!

Hey everyone, well I am done with the psych evaluation and I think it went pretty well. I was asked quite a few questions wich is part of the process. Only catch was he wanted to delay my psych approval because he wanted me to attend a few sessions wich would mean 5-6 weeks !!!!! I wasn't too happy and explained to him that Wat he wanted me to take therapy for was not part of the reason why I was there he was suppose to talk about weight-loss etc. He actually agreed and gave me the ok so now I meet with my surgeon and hope for the very best!!!! @@janedoe92, my psych eval was 654 questions. It took me 3 hours to finish. I spoke to the shrink before I started. He asked about 30 minutes worth of questions which I tried to answer to the best of my ability. I felt like an idiot answering all these personal questions to a guy I didn't know. I was sick to my stomach with worry that I would not "pass" this test. He told me to answer with the first thing that came to my head. So I did and it was a cinch.

FWIW - I posted this on a different thread. I never had regrets, I feel I had no choice as obesity was quite literally killing me, but it sure as heck wasn't easy either.....
My personal experience as a sleever can be summarized like this:
Preop - Terrified and anxious, I had to get short term medication to make it through the last week before surgery. The word "hot mess" comes to mind. It wasn't because I didn't want to be sleeved, it was because I had such a fear of the operation, such a fear of failing AGAIN (I was a failed band patient and there is no feeling of failure like failing after bariatric surgery) First weeks post op were very miserable and I was still fat. Struggle to get in enough Water, exhausted, anti-social, diarrea all that stuff. I never regretted it though because I knew this often happened and I just had to "muscle through it" Introducing solid  food was another awful experience. I felt like I had to do it perfectly right since I was so desperate to succeed. I feared damaging my sleeve, I felt sick to my stomach, everything tasted weird, Water tasted like it had metal in it.... and I was still fat. The next few months were surreal. I didn't feel like myself and I can't even articulate why. While I got the hang of eating properly, it was disorienting for food to taste bad, to eat so little, to have food restrictions, eating FELT LIKE A CHORE. Then, I had an "ah ha" moment - this is the window of opportunity to change my relationship with food. Food is not recreation, it's nutrtion - novel concept for me! I often felt I would be happier just not eating, but I realized that is another form of disordered eating, so I took on the approach that food is like medicine - follow my surgeons and NUTs directions and take it on faith it would get better. Still fat, but down alot. By 3-4 months out, people were noticing the weight loss, I was feeling more myself emotionally, I was not as naseaous, I could tolerate a wider variety of food and it started tasting normal. I was in a good workout routine and loving that I could do more. Yes, still fat, but not nearly AS fat. I started thinking that amazing things MIGHT be possible. At around 8-9 months my appetite returned, my weight loss slowed and I was still about 40# from goal. I made a conscious decision to evaluate what was important to me and I got my butt back on track with good steady losses. At 14 months I made my goal of losing 150#. I could wear cute clothes, people didn't recognize me, I could eat pretty much anything (exceptions are rich ice cream gives me cramps and spicy food can irritate my tummy a bit) I am nearly 5 years post op and living a good life as a normal sized, active woman with a loving boyfriend. I am living a day to day life that I could only dream of. Many people dont know I had surgery - I eat small portions of very normal food. My kids are shocked when they see my before pix... but they tell me I changed inside too, not just the weight loss. I wear makeup, I love to dress up, go out, social butterfly all that. Life is pretty damn good and I am thankful for the help of the sleeve to get me here.

Sagging skin won't kill you. An extra 80 pounds of fat might.
Is sagging skin a risk? Yep! But it's not a risk to your life!
There are a few things you can do to try to lessen it. Keep up with your hydration, moisturize daily, take your supplements, and try to "fill in" some of the loose skin with muscle. If you get to the end of this journey and loose skin really bothers you, you can always have plastic surgery to remove it.

I'm nearly 4 months out, so still a newb, but I had the same concerns you did, so I thought I'd chime in on my experience thus far. I started back running at 6 weeks post-op. Around 2-2/12 months I was back to my pre-surgery lifting weight. At first I felt off...little dizzy, weak, just not 100%, or even 75%. However, with each week it got better and I listened to my body vs. pushing through.
Around 10 weeks post-op I started to feel much better. I'm running farther and faster than I have in over a decade. I am trying to figure when/what to eat before an intense workout because I now get nauseated and heart burn easier.

I am currently training for a marathon (it's on September 18). I do struggle with trying to get enough calories in to not keep losing weight through my training, but I have it pretty well figured out now. I eat 7-8 times a day with one or two of those meal/snacks being carb-only. I also aim for very calorie dense Proteins like nuts and cheeses.
I don't have any problems with hydration. I have no restriction with drinking now. That only lasted a few weeks post-op. I can gulp Water and G2 no problem.
During my long runs, I use GU for calories/electrolytes and supplement my Water with G2 to stay hydrated. Before a run, I always try to eat something carb-heavy like a Clif Bar or whole grain toast with Peanut Butter.

For any of you distance runners, Fit Cross enthusiasts or extreme sport participants. After the sleeve do you have any issues because of the very limited calorie intake; fatigue, dehydration, reduced performance, etc? I am pre surgery and concerned with being able to sustain work, such as hiking/climbing, over several consecutive days. I know initially I'll be limited during recovery but I'm wondering about 6-12 months post-op.
