Learning what "satisfied" means
"For those patients who are rigorous about the volume of food they eat, and do not let the stomach to tell them when to stop eating - they do very well. This is one of the keys of successful patients, only eat a certain portion of food - period. If the band is properly adjusted, the appetite will be dimmed for several hours. Once your brain realizes that a small amount of food keeps you satisfied, then your eyes will adjust to the amount you eat." Got that from the article link on the bottom of Missy's post. Great read if you haven't seen it!

Learning what "satisfied" means
I agree Chrissy, because life is too short to not enjoy chocolate!!

Can not feel restriction...
Being tighter doesn't mean it will make you make better choices. Usually the opposite is true. Are you going about 4 hours before feeling hungry?

Frustrated
I tell you, it has been my saving grace. I weigh and measure everything I eat and track it on myfitnesspal.com. If I didn't, I could always eat way more than I should.

Are you logging everything you are eating?

Help I am starving
I've gone to bed plenty of times just to not think about being hungry or wanting to eat!

that's awesome! I know when I wasn't losing as fast as I thought I should be, I would get mad myself. But then I would have to tell myself.....Where would my weight be at this moment had I not had the surgery??? definitely higher than what I started at! So, don't be too hard on yourself. It's not a race, you are in this for life! Just out of curiosity, I see you joined back in 2008. What made you wait so long to have the surgery?

How much have you lost since your surgery? Could be time of day, time of month, too much sodium yesterday. Are you logging your intake? Your hunger should be more manageable once you are in the green zone and it may take a few more fills to get there. In the meantime it will be like dieting.

Ate Bad Today
you've owned it now move on. You are in this for the long haul, one day once in a while isn't going to hurt you! And the band around the brain??? My friends and I are always saying that!

Learning what "satisfied" means
Learning and figuring out that I really am satisfied on a small amount of food was hard to get used to when I was first banded. I ate dinner til I was stuffed in my preband days. Now I find true satisfaction in walking away from a meal and feeling comfortable enough to do anything other than crash on the couch!

Throw that scale away!!!
weighing in every day and counting my calories is a necessity for me, I don't even think twice about it anymore. I know that for me, if I want to keep this weight off, it's what I need to do.

I wonder way there are so many different pre- op diets?
My anesthesiologist said NPO after midnight, my surgery was 12:30 the next day.

I wonder way there are so many different pre- op diets?
My dr said the same thing, about wanting the liver to shrink. But I went in for my consultation with him on Monday and had my surgery on Friday. He told me to eat light on Thursday and that was it. I may have died doing 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after of liquid!

Needed a pair of jeans....
keep those jeans for comparison! I kept my largest pair to take a pic with my current pair.

Got stuck 3 times today!!
Live and learn vmarlau! Sometimes it took a few times for me to get it! I used to get stuck if I let myself get too hungry and then would try to eat too fast. Now if I am hungry I will have something in between a meal and not let me get to that point.

1 year out, and hit a plateau...
Congrats on an awesome job!

Meals
It should never take you 3 hours to eat a meal. Go get an unfill for sure. At that rate, breakfast lunch and dinner could take up your whole day!

Today marks one year banded!

50 lbs down pics!

Calories
I only did shakes during my postop diet. I'd rather eat my calories than drink my calories.

pre op question
Honestly, I never had only 500 calories. Even my first 2 weeks after surgery I was prob around 800, I have never had a problem getting my calories in. My dr recommended 800-1000 calories a day to optimize weightloss.
