  1. Hi there! Congratulations on your decision to have the lapband done. You will be glad you did. I am 2 months out. I have lost 40 lbs. so far. I also have sleep apnea and use the cpap machine. I hope to soon be able to get off of it for good. So tired of it, but you know I am so used to it that I cannot sleep without it now. It helps alot! Keep posting on your progress. Good luck to you!

I had to stay overnight but I was glad I did. I got much needed rest. And I let the nurse wait on me all day and night. It was nice. lol

Another unfill (throwing up and the onset of heartburn)!

Hi Shonette! I am so sorry to hear you have been going through a rough time. I hope now that you had an unfill that you will start improving and feeling better. I get a little heartburn as well every now and then. I don't like it because it reminds me of my old life. I never have that problem unless I eat a lil more than I should though. Yesterday I had an episode of throwing up too and man how horrbile is that? My throat hurt all night long. I was so afraid I did damage to the band. I sure hope not. I feel much better today. You are right. Us banders sure do go through alot. If people only knew! Well I will be thinking about you - take care and keep posting!

    SLIMING

Yah - or you can add fat free miracle whip or some other liquid to it to moisten it. Same thing applies to all meats. They will stick if they are not moistened. You don't ever want to experience "stuck" - trust me!

Its the little things that matter!!!

    Congratulations! That is wonderful.

    JUST WONDERING!!!!

The part I didn't understand is why do some surgeons put in like 4 1/2 cc during surgery when your stomach is swollen inside and inflamed and will have to heal for several wks.? Why not wait to put in the fill after healing is done? And now that the healing is done, it seems the surgeon is very hesitant in giving any fills??? Doesn't make much sense to me is all!

    JUST WONDERING!!!!

I WAS JUST WONDERING. WHY DO SURGEONS PUT 4 CC IN A LAPBAND DURING THE SURGERY. WITH ALL THE SWELLING IN YOUR STOMACH, AND THE TIME IT TAKES TO HEAL, IT REALLY DOESN'T MAKE MUCH SENSE TO ME. AND NOW THAT I AM 2 MONTHS POST OP - I HAVE HAD TO BEG FOR THE 2 FILLS THAT I HAVE HAD. ONE WAS ONLY 1/2 CC AND THE OTHER WAS ONLY 1/4 CC. I JUST DON'T GET IT????

    First Week Down

I forgot to tell you that when you get bored, maybe check out Lapband.com by Emmi systems. It is a wonderful website that you can write yourself daily journals and print them out to keep track of your lapband journey. You could even print them out and make yourself a book on your journey. It also tracks your wt. loss with a ticker, and food journeys, mood tracks, exercise, loads of recipes, support, and videos to watch of your band journey. It is wonderful. Check it out.

    First Week Down

Yes you are right. I have switched to smaller child size plates, cups, and some others have even used child sized utensils. It is less frustrating. And it does make your mind feel like you are eating more if your child size plate is full rather than your adult size plate almost bare. lol. I also purchased a rocket type blender which is small but powerful. It has a small container that is just the right size for the shakes and when you only want to blend up small amts. of food. Less work cleaning it up too. You are right about needing a hobby. The busier you keep yourself, the less time you have to think about food and being hungry. And exercise is def a must. Whether it be a walk outside around the neighborhood or whatever. It helps to clear your mind too. The only advice I would give you - is to not weigh yourself so much. It can become addicting. It is best to weigh yourself once a wk. at the same day and time if you can. It will be hard at first, but once you get used to it, you will be less frustrated. And it keeps you excited wondering just how much you lost. Good luck to you.

    Where is the sweet spot?

It seems the sweet spot is hard to find. I have had 2 fills and yet I still feel like I can eat more than what I am supposed to eat and more often. It takes constant control on my part to not do so. Yet other banders say they have found that sweet spot and have good restriction. So I guess it all has to do with your own individual body. Some are luckier than others I guess. But I would say maybe go in for just a little fill like 1/4 or 1/2 cc fill and see if it changes anything for you. Nothing worse than waiting - when you want results now, huh? I think we have all been there. Good luck to you and keep us posted.
  12. HI there! - You said you were banded in Jan. of this year and you are still having chest pains? That is def not normal. I was banded in Jan. also of this year and yes I too had horrible chest pains that scared me coz I didn't know if it was my heart or from the gas that they pump into your stomach for surgery. I also had neck and shoulder pain as well. But anyway, this pain all went away by the 2nd wk. post op. I did do alot of walking to try to expel the gas. Are you walking or exercising? Either way, I think you should go to the hospital and get it checked out. YOur surgeon that did your lapband should be taking this more seriously. PLease keep us posted on your progress. Take care.
  13. HOwdy! I am 57 and was banded 1/17/11. l lost 40 lbs. so far. I will not kid you, it is hard - this journey - Good luck to you and keep us posted on your progress.
  14. I went to my Dr. appt. today. I lost 10 lbs. this month for a total of 40 lbs. Yeh! I also got 1/4 cc of a fill. Total fill of 5 1/4 cc in a 10 cc band. I don't feel any restriction yet though. That is really weird. I tried for the second time to get off of the Lyrica for my fibromyalgia since it causes wt. gain, but I had to get back on the med as the pain was just too unbearable. Why does life have to be so difficult some times? Oh well - I am happy about the lost wt. Have a wonderful day!

    It's not about you....

HI there! I was wondering if you could please post your "red carpet ready cake recipe" again. I lost it and wanted to make it. Sounds yummy and as I remember - it was so low cal. My hubby likes his sweets, but he is dieting with me. So I thought this would be a nice occasional treat for the both of us. Thank you! I enjoy your posts!

BEING TAKEN OFF THE C PAP MACHINE!

Hi Gina! I can't sleep without my c pap machine. I use a full face mask too. I don't know how I will be able to get off of the machine after I lose the wt. It will be hard I guess. Even though that is all I ever wanted to be able to do - was to get off the c pap machine forever. Go figure????

    Diabetes & the Band

HI there! First of all, I am sorry to hear of your illness. I truly hope you feel better. You sure lost alot of wt. already. I was banded 1/17/11. I was diabetic as well and took oral meds for it. The surgeon took me off the med for it immediately following the lapband surgery. I was surprised. I do get hungry alot but the only difference is - now I only need very little amount of food to satisfy my hunger. And I am eating healthy foods now. Not junk anymore. Very little snacking now also. You pretty much learn a new way of eating all together. Some days are harder than others. The wt. loss is slow after the surgery. Usually 2 lbs. per wk if lucky. But you do lose alot during the pre op surgery liquid diet and then post op liquid diet. I lost 20 lbs. during that period. Total wt. loss so far is 40 lbs. Starting from time of lapband seminar to now. My goal is to lose 100 lbs. If I can do that, I will be happy. You have to be determined for sure. And have alot of will power. I am sure you have both. You have been through so much already it seems. I think you will do well with this if it is what you truly want. But remember - it is forever life changing. Good luck to you and keep us posted. Take care.

    Emotional eater

Yah - you're not alone on that one! I think alot of us banders have that same problem. It will probably take a long time to undue bad habits that we formed over such a long time. But one day at a time I guess. Some days are harder than others. For sure.
