    Diet years down the road

My diet has basically gone back to what it was pre-op, just less of it. I aim to eat three meals a day, no snacks (as per guidelines from my surgeon), but there's many days I don't do that. Honestly it's really not much of a change, just learning to eat more slowly (and without water) to ensure satiety.

An hour? Ouch. My doc only asked us to wait 30 minutes before/after. Not saying to ignore their instructions but that seems a bit much. In the early days I struggled with getting my protein in through food sources. One thing I did was to start the day off with my protein shake. That way I had almost half of my protein goals taken care of first thing in the morning. Plus any water/milk from that can still count towards your water intake for the day. Kind of took the edge off of eating later in the day. I never pushed myself or anything, but it's freaking hard to hit 60+ grams of protein through food alone in the first few months (for me at least!). I also kept a 32 oz container around me at all times, such as an old Powerade or Gatorade bottle. I'd fill that up with Crystal Light and then my goal would be to have that done half way through the day. Then I'd refill it and have the second one done in the evening. Some days water went down easier than others. Either way that bottle traveled with me all day long. If I went outside, it went with me. Went upstairs to fold laundry, it went with me.

    Exhausted all the time

It does get better around 4-6 weeks. But, if you don't start seeing improvements talk to your surgeon or NUT to get advice. I personally had to tweak my vitamins a little bit before I felt 100%.

I got sleeved on the 7th rather than the 6th. I was sleeved at a BMI of 30.6, I think I had previously said I was 31.6 but I was mistaken. I was told to stick mostly to water for my first week, so I have had 2 portions of home made chicken bone and vegetable broth each day and water throughout the week. The last few days my stomach has started to growl and churn, but otherwise its been pretty effortless, if not a chore to remember to drink my fluids and broth. I am feeling pretty weak tbh, My dog has bad back legs and I have to carry her around a lot and this has become a challenge. I get exhausted doing things I used to do effortlessly. Last night I made two soups for the first week of full liquid stage, Ive tried to cram as much nutrition in to them as possible. Both are made from home made chicken bone and vegetable stock and grilled chicken thighs, one is carrot and squash and the other is mushroom. They have been frozen in to individual containers. I am lazy when it comes to cooking, so its easier for me to make a weeks supply in one evening than to cook every day. This morning I started my transition to full liquids with a protein shake (powder + water) I am not particularly looking forward to starting full liquids because I dont know what to expect and I dont feel a drive to eat anything right now. I also have some greek yogurt, but keep forgetting to eat it. I dont have a feeling of fullness at all, If I drink too much I can get a pain, but otherwise im just measuring out my broth portions and hoping its enough. So that is pretty much how the first week has been for me, Hopefully I am on the right track.

    Vitamins to take

Sublingual (flavoured) vitamins. My B12 is sublingual cherry. My Iron is sublingual grape. My Centrum Multivitamin Men's 50+ is blueberry but not sublingual. SUBLINGUAL = under the tongue. i.e. stick it in your mouth and it melts under your tongue is 10-25 seconds. Some brands of sublingual vitamins use the TRADEMARK "Rapimelt". Rapid melting!
