    Hello! I'm new here

Hey everyone, I'm brand new to this. I have been contemplating doing something to get my weight down. I am considering getting the lap band. I am 5'4 and 192 lbs so my BMI is on the lower end. I had a baby 6 months ago and ironically lost weight from that. However, like my other two pregnancies. I end up regaining the weight. My weight is creeping back up to its baseline which is between 195 to 205. I'm at a BMI of 32 and some change now. In order to be able to fight for insurance coverage, I know you need to have a minimum of 35 BMI plus a comorbid condition. I'm worried about the latter part because I am unsure of which ones qualify you. I only have a history of hypertension and presently have bilateral lymphedema affecting my legs and a chronic skin condition called HS. Both of which affect my mobility and could really benefit from losing weight. Presently, I do not have the option to self pay but I'm going to give it a go to see my options. Does anyone know of a similar situation that was covered? I couldn't find one by searching. It probably seems silly to be considering this at this weight but I have been stuck at this size for what feels like a lifetime. Whatever I try, does not help. Nice to meet you all!

    May 2019

Mine is the 27th. I have a question for you all. I was thinking of starting my pre-op VLCD diet on the 1st, but really hate those meal replacement shakes. The sweetener in them gives me diarea and my face breaks out. Do you think it work it/be able to plan a pre-op diet with normal food? Something like taking multivitamins, breakfast: protein/smoothie, lunch: weight watchers soup or modifast soup, supper: chicken breast/salmon and veg (no starchy one). I may even have enough calories to put in a protein pudding snack for the evening or protein shake. I've been lucky enough to find a protein powder that has no sugar added and free from sweetner. It has only slightly more calories (40) than other ones and I really like the taste. So what do you guys think? Eat like I described or suck it up from the 1st until the 27th? or just do VLCD for the two weeks that my surgeon has asked for? (Of course, I am going to ask for approval from my nutritionist, but dont want to bother them if im being stupid.)

You will be fine. Listen to those who have replied to you. You have a ton of support and as for the fear? Ya, know...I think I would be worried for you, if you weren't worried for yourself. Thanks to everyone who has posted to this thread!

    Post op

Well I’m 4 days post op and just now able to walk upright.. lol I went to the gym to walk on the treadmill, I was so embarrassed as other people are walking fast, jogging and such, I’m only able to walk at 1.7 mph and still feel a little pain and couldn’t walk but about half a mile.. how long does the site usually hurt on the side the Dr takes the part of the stomach out?

    Supplies prior to Surgery

Thank you! That was what I was wondering about. I see so many folks post that their taste totally changes or they can't tolerate some things after surgery. I really want to thank you for your input. I will take the minimalist approach and maybe try some samples as well. Having a few months to plan for my surgery has been good in some respects and not so good in others. Again, thank you very, very much.
  8. Amazing transformation congrats[emoji1320] Sent from my SM-G925T using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. I'm turning 47 later this year and have set up 3 consults in the coming weeks to weigh my plastics options. I've lost about 95 lbs and my arms are looking saggy. I want them to look as good as I feel You are never too old!

    Month Post Surgery

Your story sounds like mine. I hated the whey after surgery. It would make me gag, so I drank fairlife milk, high protein yogurt and cheese. I also did refried beans, and cottage cheese. Good luck!
  11. You will find that the eating plans prescribed vary greatly from doctor to doctor (or nutritionist to nutrition, for that matter). Like the poster said above, it's best to follow the plan outlined by your own team. With that said, when I was at the 4 week mark I was taking in probably 300-400 cals on good days.

    Supplies prior to Surgery

Don't do like I did and purchase stuff. I would say maybe vitamins and a protein supplement. I gave away 90% off what I bought, and it was a lot! My taste buds changed so much. I couldn't stomach whey afterwards. I used fairlife milk and yogurt. Good luck!
  13. I've used Milk of Magnesia when I haven't pooped in a while. Though once, immediately after surgery, I hadn't gone for a week or so and when the MOM didn't work, I took Senkot-S and that did the trick. Explosively, in fact. I haven't taken it since as just the MOM (or glycerin suppositories) works for me now when things get backed up.

    Headaches after eating?

Over eating can cause a number of issues for people a headache is one, hiccups, burping, excessive salivating, feeling over full, chest pain, shortness of breath. Try walking for about 10 minutes or more and try to stop eating before you feel full. Over chew before you swallow. One bite can make a huge difference. Good luck.
  15. When I get my surgery and lose weight I might write a book about my weight loss surgery so I can help anyone who started at my weight, or who think about getting the surgery.

    One more step closer

You're moving right along, let's hope everything else goes smoothly so your surgery can happen!😝🍀😝
  17. How many of you you have or did lay in supplies (nutritional items, vitamins, eat) prior to your surgery? Did you think this is a good or not so good idea? My surgery date isn't until 10/1/19, so I have plenty of time to figure this out. I just don't want to find myself purchasing unnecessary items. Any thoughts?

    Month Post Surgery

Hi, I am new to this app but figured I’d download it for some support and questions.I am a month post surgery and a little worried.I can still barely eat any solid foods and my tastebuds have changed so much I can’t stand the taste of the protein shakes.I can consume a decent amount of liquid ow sugar juices etc but warm water hurts my tummy (weird I know) I am so hungry but I know it’s because I lack protein since I refuse to drink the drinks .I tried some noodles the other day and they went down pretty well but I’m afraid to eat them again because noodles are carbs which turn into sugar.HELP ☹️
  23. Start Senna, or colace. Not fiber. Hopefully it gets better soon

    Feeling Down

I’m sorry to hear this, but hang in there. I have thyroid issues as well and it is a process sometimes to get them worked out, but it will happen.
