I am considering the smaller port lap band..anyone any luck with it?

Hi..I am having surgery this week. I am down to 212 pounds and am 5"3". I am now down 20 pounds on my own. I am so nervous to be cut. Has anyone had the smaller port put in? I am thinking I should just have that put in first. I am pear shaped vs apple, so most of my fat is in my rear.

What do you think? They might have to do the fills under floroscopy I heard, but wouldn't I be better off in the long run after I loose the weight? Thanks, k

the regular port is fine on me and i was 205 preop ( my overall high was 240 though, lost a good part of it on my own)diet at 5ft 3 or 4, currently i am 177 and you can feel the port but not really see it, i too am a pear shape, i would get the regular size port for nothing else than it is easier to hit for fills, and not requireing floro all the time is a selling point too.

good luck with your choice.

Congrats on getting down to 177. How long did it take?

It is a tough decision. How many fills have you had to have?

Hi:

I asked at surgeon's support group why they don't use the smaller port. The surgeon said it's alot harder to do a fill on the smaller port, so he doesn't use it. He puts the port under the rib cage in the middle, so it's unlikely that anybody will be able to see it. I'm down to 199 and nobody can see mine, though I can feel it inside. It's kind of reassuring that I know it's always there along with my band - my belly cop.

Good luck.

hey, so to answer your question, I have had 1 fill so far and am going for my 2nd on thursday, so far i have 1.5ccs in a 10cc band, well I lost 15lbs preop and had surgery on 3/25 and have lost 13 since surgery so it's a little slow going but I'm very happy with the changes, i was in a tight 16 preop and am now in a loose 12, could probably easily fit into a 10 and have ordered a skirt in that size for the summer.
