hmmmm...maybe not SO easy

Ok so, two days post op. I was discharged yesterday and hone by like 1:30-2:00. Lots of sleep since then. Still getting up and walking on the treadmill for 15-20 minutes at a time. Funky starting to move some gas so that's a relief! I'm having a he'll of a time getting anything in. Liquids and protein are like impossible. I'm just not hungry. Everything I make tastes terrible, I really need to get some recipes or ideas that are low volume but high protein ...not so much luck on that right now. I either end up with what feels like could be 3 days of protein shakes. Or like an ass flovered paste lol.

Hopefully this gets easier!

I must agree with you. I received my sleeve on Wednesday. Started to doubt I had done the right thing on my birthdat on Thursday but by 10 pm signs of life had returned. You are so correct about nothing tasting very good as it all seems to taste so sweet. Slept well last night but I am also not on any pain meds. Very concerned at this point about getting something down for nourishment. Any good ideas? Or input?

Everything went great with my in hospital recovery. I'm just having a hard time getting my water and protein in.

I'm fir sure tired of sweet. I went back to just plain water instead of vitamin water and that went down better. I'm also going to use less protein powder in my stuff...it's just too much volume with the amount I cam take in right now.

Have you looked at the Unjury sight for food and vitamin supplements for patients who have undergone bariatric surgery. Lot's of options.

What kind of protein shake powders are you using? I'm using the Syntrax nectars (my preferred flavors are chocolate truffle and double stuffed, but they have a lot of other flavors.) They can be mixed with 1 - 2 c of milk or water, have 23 g of protein per scoop, and do not make it thick (from your description, it sounds like yours is pasty?). I use 1 c of milk with the two flavors I prefer, which ups the protein to 31 g per serving.

I have body fortress whey chocolate protein and I had samples of unjury flavorless and unjury vanilla. All 3 options are a TON of powder for the 20ish grams of protein they contain. I'm looking for something I cam use that's still a good amount of protein, but not that huge like 1/3c of powder to get it.

I had surgery Monday and am struggling to get my 80 oz of liquid down since they repaired a hiatal hernia as well. I havent started protein yet. I am SO full from just water and sugar free popsicles.

For my pre op diet I used Matrix, and their protein powder is wonderful. I use mint cookie, chocolate, strawberry cream and orange cream.

It takes about a week, at least for me, before I felt like I could get a little more down. At this point just be sure you stay hydrated. That's the most important thing right after surgery. Try and drink a protein shake, I drink premier shakes from Costco. But you have to find one you like. Good luck and in a week or so you will be stronger and feeling much better:)

My first month after surgery I lived on Unjury's chicken broth. I got really tired of sweet tasting stuff and I couldn't do cold... even water had to be more at room tempature or luke warm. Thankfully my Dr told me to work up to the 64 oz of water, he was happy if I got in 32 oz in a day for the first two weeks and for protein it was the same thing, what ever I could manage in the first two weeks and then afterwards to get in my 80 grams.

I am postop 4 days now and my only requirement from the doctor was staying hydrated. The protein will come probably at the time of my postop appointment 6 days postop. I was worried first day home but it has gotten better since then. I try to make my drinks into meals, broth like a soup, sugarfree jell-o for dessert and something else to drink in sips as I go. I also had a hiatal hernia repaired but the only real complication that has caused other than a referred pain is hiccups which makes me concerned when I drink not to cause them. At first I thought I would want to be moved up but I am okay taking everything slow and easy.

Thanks all! I'm going to head to GNC today and try to get some options for unflavored and just adding a scoop or so to my water. I guess, what I was trying to do was add an entire scooper, or an entire packet (to get all 20+ gm in at one time), and I guess that isn't necessary either- I just need to figure out the best way to do this- lol

If you have a Sam's Club or Costco, they sell Premier Protein shakes. I have drank them for years and love them! (and I have not had my Sleeve yet!) They have 30 grams of protein. They are pre-made so easy to take. No mixing powders and such. Not thick at all. Affordable, too! I have also enjoyed the protein nectars that are out there. Love Peach! I just add them to water. Yummy. I read everyone's posts... planning for my journey soon! And all your tips and info help immensely!! Lee ~
