Variety in food after surgery

I had gastric sleeve surgery 12/26 and am doing great (53 pounds total lost; 36 since surgery. My question is this: I am trying to find variety by using allowed foods, herbs, spices to create new dishes or re-create old ones. My daughter is having the sleeve 3/13 and her surgeon has told her she should not try to have variety in food after the surgery--ever. She should eat the same meals every day, mostly fish & chicken, even for breakfast. I just am wondering if anyone else has been told that and if so, how do you follow that strictly for the rest of your life. I am so enjoying variety in my foods but still eating what I am allowed in 4-5 oz portions.

OMG, having the same thing day in day out sounds awful AND a way for the weight to come back due to deprivation. I would totally ignore that piece of advice. Variety is the spice of life, even after WLS.

That sounds terrible. I was never told anything like that. I was told to try and get my protein from a variety of sources. If you search "forest park gastric sleeve" the first link goes to an manuel put out by the Forest Park Medical Center. This hospital mostly deals with bariatric surgeries. It helped me, hopefully it can help you guys.

I have something new every night. When I told my NUT what all I was cooking she said they were excellent choices, so I think ignore that info. I personally couldn't eat the same thing every day.

I do like the simplicity of eating the same thing but would hate to be told that I had to eat the same thing for every meal. I never could eat fish for breakfast! This should be a tool for long term success and I don't think you could b successful if you had to eat the same thing for every meal.

I agree with everyone else. This is awful advice. My surgeon would laugh at this. I am always looking for something new to cook and try. This is how I feel like I am eating like a normal person. And there are lots of good recipes on the recipe forum.

I'm with you, sounds like no fun. But studies show those who have a routine for eating have less weight problems that those who use make what sounds good for dinner. Food-ertainment it's been dubbed.

My NUT says that variety is GREAT as long as it follows the requirements of the 2 P's: 1. Protein 2. Produce If there is any room left after, fruit. Keep carbs LOW. That's what I've been told. I think I will probably eat the same breakfast every morning (or drink). I like protein shakes. I am going to find variety for breakfast and supper, but will probably keep very routing for breakfast and snacks.

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.
