Hi All...

My name is Lee. I am a newbie here on the site and find all your words and comments so helpful! My VSG is in March here in Charlotte, NC. I am sooooo excited!!

I wanted to ask you all.... if you could share just ONE tip that you WISH someone would have shared with you about the surgery or what to eat or what to expect or anything at all, what would that be?? Anything you care to share would be awesome... good or bad! I want to be as prepared as possible!!

Many thanks in advance!!

Lee :)

Taking a taxative a day or two before is a great help, totally reduced any gas pains for me afterwards. And you'll probably hear this a hundred times, but WALK WALK WALK as soon as you can. Totally helps! Good luck to you!

i havn't had mine yet, but i know a lot of people who have had their ops and are doing great, the one thing they all say is don't rush the process, stick to the instructions given to you by your surgeon and you will have greater suscess, make the most of the first 4-6 months when you can loose the most the quickest, not one person has said that they regret having their sleeve, in fact they all say they wish they had had it in their early 20s, xx

My insurance wouldn't pay so I decided to have my suregery in Mexico. I was so nervous but decided to to it and never look back. My surgery was 12 days ago...what a great experience!

I didn't take any pain medication afterwords and still feel great. I recommend you walk as much as possible after surgery. I found myself sore from walking (legs and butt) and not from the surgery itself. The pre-op diet was the hardest for me. I quit drinking Diet Coke 4 days before surgery...that so far has been the hardest thing for me. I don't even think about it now...but those four days were hell for me. I have lost 13 pounds in 12 days so I feel like my journey is just beginning.

So my advice is walk, walk, walk...and then walk some more :o)

If you drink Diet soda - stop now. You dont want to be detoxing when you are going through surgery. Find a protein shake you really like and drink it religously - you will be living on liquid for a while after surgery so you want to be prepared.

The surgery itself is really not that bad - my only pain was when I first woke up and the pain meds stopped that pretty quickly.

The incisions are nothing. Day two was a little rougher. The swallow test they do to check for leaks sucks. The dye you swallow is disgusting and I eventually threw it up. But as hard as I tried not to throw up - even that wasnt horrible.

Walking (especially in the hospital) all the time is really helpful - it will really make you feel better.

The post op diet is a little rough until you are able to start incorporating actual (although soft) food - I just missed chewing. And you will truely get full after even a couple of ozs of soft foods - but thats why I got the sleeve isnt it - to be full before I ate my body weight in food. But it really is worth it. Im 2 weeks post ops - have lost 28 pounds since starting my pre-ops diet 2 weeks before surgery. I still have a way to go - but I feel stronger and healthier already and I have so many things to look forward to.

You really wont regret it - Good luck.
