Need Some Advice , If I Do My Surgery ,i Could Lose My Great Job.

I would keep your job let some time go by till you are offered more vacation, do a damn good job and then do the surgery. The Dr will understand you need to postpone for a few months. IMO!

What about checking with the HR department about the Family Medical Leave Act? That's what I did. I think, and I could be wrong, that it helps to keep your job secure while you are out.

This is a very tough one. I am tempted to say push through and have the surgery then fight your boss if he tries to fire you. Knowing how this surgery saved my life I would fight tooth and nail to have it again and again if I had to. This is a tough one though. I am thinking of you!!

Tell your employer what's going on and get there take. Ask if the surgery date would work, let them know how important both your job and this surgery are for you. Allow the employer to be part of the decision. Best of luck and praying for you.

go talk to your boss....they have to appreciate honesty...explain the situation and about how important your job is to you and ask if they would prefer you to wait or do it now. Surgeon will always be there,not so for jobs...

I'm sure you don't want to wait, but I would if I were in this position. It's not exactly the same, but a position just opened up at my job, a position I've wanted for the past 4 years I've worked there, but I'm not posting for it because I know that I want surgery more. But I'm wouldn't risk my current job to have the surgery, either. I have, however, told my boss about contemplating surgery. She's very supportive... I think you might get more support than you think - and yes, if you're in the US, you are covered by FMLA for 12 weeks per year. If you haven't used any FMLA time for the time off you've already taken, you can still use it now. Talk to HR - you don't have to give them specifics of why your asking for them to tell you how the process works.

I guess, I just think if you could put it off until Jan or Feb like you were thinking you'd have to do anyway, then in the long run it's probably better to hold on to your job.

You can be in charge of when you have your surgery - a few months one way or another is not going to be a big deal in the long term!

i think you should postpone the surgery and keep you job. Its not easy to get a good job these days. Also, be honest with your employer and see what she says. Luckily my employer is always supportive of my decisions as long as i am honest and not trying to bs them.
