So you guys all know that Wednesday is my surgery and I have been on my pre-op diet for almost 2 weeks. Tomorrow I start 2 days of just liquids leading up to the surgery and I am not worried about that because I have been really good with this pre op diet. So this is where my problem starts. I want to have a double cheese burger, with fries and ice cream for my meal today because I know I will not have that again in a long time.

Did any off you guys have a last meal*so to say* before surgery, and if so what did you have? Was it worth it? Did you feel guilty afterwards? More importantly did it effect your surgery in anyway?

I had "The Last Supper" before I started my liquids only. It was a grilled steak, baked potato and salad and I didn't feel guilty one bit. I was super strict for the liquids after that and ended up losing 20 lbs pre-op. It didn't affect my surgery at all. You'll probably be surprised and not be able to eat as much as you used to. And you're right, it's gonna be a looooooooooong time before you eat that kind of food again. I'm almost 2 months post-op and still eating soup, yogurt and oatmeal. So far I'm down 67 lbs and going strong. (So enjoy you're meal today (and have a little bite for me please)!!!

I did not have my surgery yet... but I plan on having a nice meal before I start the liquid diet. I know I won't feel guilty, because I still plan on eating a fraction of what I used to eat. I want to have a cheese burger from mcdonalds and a small fry. Way less calories than the 2 double cheeseburgers and a large fry that I used to eat!! :)

If you need a last meal - just go ahead and have it. My timing was kinda crazy, so I couldn't really get in a last meal and the first couple week post-op I felt like I'd cheated myself outta one. I don't feel like it anymore, but it just would have made the first couple weeks easier. Just make sure it doesn't turn into multiple last meals - which it doesn't sound like it will since you're doing awesome.

I did not have a last meal. My surgery was on a Thursday and my MD did not require any specific diet prior to my surgery. They did request that you not have a large "last meal" the day before surgery.

I agree. Go ahead and have your last meal. It will be well worth it since you won't be able to have those types of food for a very LONG time. For my last meal i have a burrito bowl from Chipotle with extra guacamole :D My surgeon didnt require a special diet but did advise nothing heavy before the night of surgery.

I did have a 'last supper'. I had a double quarter lb'der, fries & a sugar free iced tea (the nerve :D). Had 1 patty for lunch w/ the fries & the other for dinner later that night. The night b4 surgery I had a fish sandwich (burger king). No regrets. :P

Have your last meal. I had pasta. If you really like hamburgers have it now. I have found and have heard from others that beef is hard to digest after surgery. I have tried a few bites of a hamburger and a piece of meat loaf since surgery and I have to vomit it up because it hurt too much. I am 2 months post surgery. I'm not sure if it will get any better, but its not something I really liked so veggie burgers for me from now on.

Best wishes on your surgery.
