First Day Of 2 Week Liquid Diet

Hello everybody,

I had my pre-op yesterday and was told that because my liver was too big I had to be on a liquid diet for TWO weeks, not just one. I've had 2 protein shakes today and am starving. How long does it take to get used to this????

It took me about 3 days....but everyone's different. Hang in there! I'm fighting through it too, but it honestly gets easier every day! Good luck to you!

I am right behind you Randi, I have my preop appointment on the 13th and was also told about my fatty liver and would be required to do a 2 week liquid diet. By any chance, did they recommend any sugar free pops to you? I would assume you could eat as many as possible as well as the broths. My plan is to keep broths and pudding and water (although I may be very tired of them by the end of 2 weeks) close by at all times to ease the hunger pains as well as go to bed VERY EARLY to not think about it. Hope all goes well for you! My surgery is on May 1! Best wishes and a speedy recovery!

I am on day 2 of my liquid diet, and every time i get those hunger pains, i eat ice or drink some water, it seems to help me out. I go in for pre-op on the 10th. I too have a fatty liver but my doc just wants me to lose 10lbs, but i personaly want to try to lose more, the sooner the better i guess. Surgery for me is set for April 19th...Best of luck everyone!!!

I'm on day 3 of my pre-op diet. Mine is basically a high protein diet as opposed to your liquid one. i'm allowed to have soup and lean meats like chicken and turkey and also fruits and veggies. Even though i know its not as hard as yours, its still really hard for me. What has helped me thus far, is that i have a good support system. My mum is here and my big sister, so their words of encouragement really help a lot. My surgery is on the 17th and i'm nervous but excited about it. Another thing you can do if your a Christian, is to talk to the Holy Spirit. I tell him to make me feel better by making me very full on the little i'm allowed to eat. It is well with all of us!

It makes me sad that people have to do liquid diets. I don't see how it prepares you for life after surgery.

I am on day 7 of my liquid diet. Broth has really saved me and SF popsicles. I miss chewing so the popsicles really help. SF jello also helps. The first 3 days were hard but get better. I now start my morning with broth that seems to help.
