I am new to this whole WLS surgery thing, and I must admit it is so much to take in. I have my first appt with my surgeon on April 27th, and I know that I have more than enough time to figure out what I want to get. At first I wanted the lapband, but now I am leaning more towards the gastric bypass or the sleeve. Was it hard for you guys to make the decision to get the sleeve, and are you happy with what you choose?

On my first appt, the doctor explained lapband, gastric bypass and sleeve. Lapband was out of question for me because it almost will never work because South Indian food tends to be more mushy - so the band is not going to hold it for a long time. So my choice was either GB or VSG. Now, I made up my mind pretty quick that I was NOT going to get GB because of the whole malnutrition thing. I could not imagine taking meds my WHOLE LIFE due to malnutrition.

Getting sleeved was the best decision I ever made. I regret that I had not done this a few years back. I'm 11 weeks out and feel so much better, lighter and energetic.

After reading many stories here, I'm not really comfortable with Lapband either -- there seems to be a higher rate of complication in it. So GB or VSG would be a great choice.

I hope everything works out fine for you. All the best!! :-)

I originally want the RNY. Then decided on the sleeve because I like my NSAIDS when I get my monthlies, or in general. So what was left was the sleeve. Recently I looked into the DS, but I'm a vegeterian, and I didn't like the idea of all of those pill pill pills. The plus with the sleeve is if for whatever unfortunate reason the weight I want off doesn't come off, I can get the DS, although it's best to do that all at once. I am pretty comfident though the VSG will work for me.

It was difficult for me to decide I actually changed my mind between the lap band and the RNY, at the time my insurance only covered those 2 and neither was the right fit for me and I knew it but I also knew that I needed help. When my insurance policy changed and I could get the sleeve, I just felt at ease. You have to take a look inward to find out which tool will work for you. And there is no rush in deciding, this is a big change and deserves some thought. With all the being said this was the best thing that I have done for myself! Trust that you will make the right choice for you.

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.
