I Am Scared And Trying To Keep The Faith

I am scared I am gaining weight, I purchased a scale about 3 weeks ago and I weigh myself 3 to 4 times a day and each time it says something different.

I am struggling with what to eat, I think I am doing the right thing and it seem like I am gaining. My Doctors office called today to inform me I was dehydrated and needed to go in and get fluids. I came home got on the scale and it went from 301 this morning to 309 is that right is it normal.

I am scared, I am failing, I am not losing the weight I thought I would. I am going to go back and see the Nutrionist to get some help with my meals ans portion sizes. I want to be successful with my weight loss. I started this journey at 349 lbs, when I went to my post op I was 307 lbs, my scale has not gotten down under 300lbs and it's been about 3 week.

I have an elipitical machine that I have been using and i am still not losing. Any advice would be helpful. I do mess up and eat the wrong thing sometime but for the most part I am faithful, I have trouble getting the calcium down it makes me nauseated, I am trying to find one I really like.

Thanks for listening I appreciate any help, and advice you can give.

First of all, 42 pounds is amazing! And the fact that you were dehydrated tells me that you may not be drinking enough water. I work to get 64 oz of water in a day. If you are kicking it on the elliptical machine, you may be building muscle, which weighs more than fat. That's AWESOME and wonderful, because muscle burns more fat.

Don't get discouraged. Concentrate on getting in the protein and water each day and keep working out. You will lose weight. For now, look for the non-scale victories: Are your clothes getting looser? Are your measurements showing that you are getting smaller? If those two things are happening, then you're doing this right. If not, then you may need to adjust your eating, but I'm betting that you are doing fine! :)

Good luck!

Lissa, Thank you so much. After I wrote this I said i was going to focus on getting the protein in and doing more exercise. Boy 64 oz is a lot of water to try and consume but I guess if others are doing it I can to. My clothes are looser so thats a good thing.

Thanks again .

Thanks so much for the

first of all PUT THE SCALE AWAY! Weighing yourself a buncha times a day will drive you crazy. Your body weight will fluctuate all day long due to water retention, etc. Get the idea out of your head that you're going to lose weight between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner. The scale will not and cannot register your progress throughout a day, only you can by what you consume and how active you are. The scale also cannot measure what amount of fat you have converted to muscle.

Please do not put all of your energy into what a machine that's slapped together in a mass factory for 1.29 and then sold to you for 30 bucks that is run by a 3 dollar battery tells you.

The weight will come off if you're doing what you're supposed to. It doesn't have a choice. The scale should only be a guideline - once a week maybe. Take measurements, check how your clothes feel. Check how YOU feel. Those are the true measurements

Yes, I agree - PUT THE SCALE AWAY! I weigh myself every 3-4 days. If I weighed myself 3-4 times a day I would go WACKO!

Get your fluids - water- in, all of it! Follow the instructions for fluids and foods. Eat 4oz at a time, 4-5 times a day - put protein powder (Beneprotein) in pureed soups, protein shakes, etc. Eat mushies until you can eat more solid foods. Baked sweet potatoes, soft tofu, hummus, legumes, etc. - nutritious food, not fatty or sugary foods. YOU HAVE THE POWER to take care of yourself and your health. If you are dehydrated at this point out its because you aren't getting enough fluids in. They tell you not to use a straw, but if it helps to get fluids in, use a straw. I do.

Think about the positive and direct your actions in a positive direction.

Best to you.
