Im Hungry Every 2 Hours- Only 27 Days Post Op...?!?! Is This Normal

First, I want to say how thankful I am that THIS is my chief problem at this point. I really dont have any other complaints right now. Pretty much everything I have ate since surgery has settled ok with me, I can keep my protein down, and in fact, I havent vomited once since surgery. I have not had horrible bouts of nausea, and when I had my 3 week check up with my surgeon I had lost 30 pounds :). So yes, I am VERY thankful my chief complaint is that im hungry. That being said, Im a nervous wreck that im THIS hungry only 4 weeks out. It started about 3-4 days ago, and you can set a clock by my hunger. No matter what I eat, protein, fruit, vegetables, 2 hours later I will be hungry. The main reason Im so darn worried about this is because I DONT WANT TO B HUNGRY! Im scared that if I eat every 2 hours ill stretch my stomach out and ill be back in the same stinking boat I was before the surgery. Obviously, Im eating tiny amounts of food, but the size is increasing. I still eat between 1-2 tbsp and 1/4 cup food but I am just so worried that im frequently hungry. Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else had this? Am I just completely crazy for being worried?!

I have not had the surgery yet, but from what I have gathered sometimes people have issues with acid, which gives you the feeling of being hungry. Of course please correct me if I am wrong. I would talk to your dr. and if that's it see about getting put on meds to help!

The amount that you can eat is going to increase over the first few weeks, the swelling in your stomach is going down, which leaves a bigger area to fill. Its not that much bigger though. Please make sure that you're drinking enough - many times thirst can mimic hunger. Also, be sure that its not acid. Many times acid makes us feel hungry. Check with your doc about taking an acid reducer. A lot of people have issues with that.

The only time I'm hungry 2 hours after a meal is when my meal is only a protein shake. then I have a small amount to eat 2 hours later - after that its about 4 or so hours before I think about eating again.

I am three months out but I remember in the begining I felt hungry. I've seen on this site it could be acid check that out. But also with you being about three weeks out your still in the mushy stage and probably not getting alot of good protein. Increase the fluid through the day. If your getting in the prescibed amount of mushy food and its protein based, not veggies, not fruit those foods wont stave off the hunger, you'll soon adjust. hpe that makes sense

I think I'm hungry a lot too but it's not like the hunger before and I just try to make healthy choices, protein foods. I found that protein snacks like Kays Naturals protein chips and protein pretzels are a great crunchy snack. I get them from netrition.com.

Try tums sugar free antacids when you get hungry (on a little water) it will help.

OMG, that is so ME! I'm taking prescription meds for acid, plus additional Zantac, so I don't think it's acid. I'm hungry very two hours, like clockwork. I'm 5 weeks out. I'm obsessing that I'm eating too many calories and I'm going to blow this just like every other diet. I'm eating 1,000 calories a day, including protein drinks. But I do believe this is real hunger. I have gurgling, gnawing hunger. I eat, and it goes away. I'm still on mushies, and am eating mostly protein--egg for breakfast, a protein drink, something like soup, beans or mushed turkey for lunch, an afternoon protein drink, something like a T of peanut butter in the afternoon, then more mush for dinner, and at night before bed (so I don't lie there starving) more peanut butter. I'm also drinking lots of water. I DON'T WANT TO BE HUNGRY ANY MORE!!! I feel so cheated! I thought it would be gone forever, and here I am. I've lost only 21 pounds in 5 weeks, and I'm disappointed because I was hoping for at least 5 pounds a week in this stage.

I was so glad to read your post and know I'm not alone, but I feel for you, too. I see my doc on Friday and I'm going to ask him about it then.

Thanks for the comments everyone! I am on prescription prevacid, have been since before the surgery to prevent acid. I work on getting my water and protein in. This is just driving me crazy! I went through all this work and now IM HUNGRY!?!

Pookeyism- I think I'll try the tums idea, maybe im just gurgling up some acid. :)

Writergirl- I COMPLETELY understand. Its unerving to think that I had surgery and my surgeon said "your going to have to force yourself to eat because you wont be hungry". Well thats just bs for me right now because as I type, my stomach is GROWLING in hunger. If I eat it stops for a little bit. I think im going to check with my surgeon and see what she has to say.
