I was told it is because you tend to gulp with a straw and thus take in more air bubbles causing more gas pains! No fun!!! As for soda, any carbonated beverages is a no go - as it also causes gas and it can erode the band. :(

Rosie said it and no other way to put it. Your soda and straw days are over with but it is well worth it. :)

Yes, I agree I do not drink any soda or Pop I tried and I do not feel good when I do. As far as the straw goes I have used one every day for the past two banded years and do not have any problems. Everything I drink is thru a straw. Maybe it is the combination of soda and a straw that has ill effects. Best wishes everyone. imaluckydog

Thank you. I have used a straw with no problems and drink a sip of pop now and then. Think I'll lay off the pop don't want any erosion. Hoping I can exercise enough to lose four pounds this week. I go back for a weight check only next week and that would make 50 pounds I've lost since Dec. 28th. My goal to exercise my toosh off this week!! :))
