1st follow up--and great news! (not band related)

I had my follow up with my surgeon today. He said everything looks great! I've lost 4 pounds since Monday, not including the 4 pounds I gained in swelling and lost by Wednesday. So, yay for that! He said everything looks good and that my surgery was very straight forward and easy.

My first fill is scheduled for July 12th and I get to start on mushies on Monday! Woo!!

On to my "great news!"

K, so I am a photographer--mainly children, seniors and families--and every year my company has a contest for what they call the "Chairman's Award." Basically that's a fancy title for photographer of the year. The prize is $25,000!! That's right, 25k! Last year I was a finalist and placed 4th. Still really cool to have been a finalist. This year the competition is a LOT tougher!! We've moved from in-studio sessions only to on-location photography as well. About 1,300 people entered this year (as opposed to the 460 last year) and......I'm one of the 8 finalists again!!! PLUS one of my images is up for top prize in its category!! (And I'm the only finalist that has been a finalist before! If I don't win, I'm going to call myself Susan Lucci! LOL)

I am just SO excited and I had to share this news!! I got the call as I was driving to my doctor's appointment today. It made for a very good visit to the doctor! LOL

So that leads me to a question. I am scheduled to have my fill on July 12th. The meeting/awards ceremony is July 15th and they always serve dinner and drinks, etc. Should I just wait an extra week for my fill since I'll have to be on liquids during my time up there if I don't wait?

What do you think? :)

Congratulations on your nomination.. I would get your fill, that's my priority level though.. my weightloss is more important to me than the dinner or drinks I'm missing out on. You can always nibble, and if you're like me when I got my first fill I was still able to eat, it took quite a few fills before I felt any real restriction. But whatever you decide to do, I hope you win!

Thanks for the advice!! I don't care so much about the food and drinks up there. I just don't want to try to be searching for a protein shake or something.

This is great news!! I personally would wait for fill in case there is any nauseousness which I have read some people get. Yes it is priority, its why we are doing this but I dont think I would take a chance of being sick for this awards dinner.

Congrats on the nomination and doing so well with your surgery. How long did you wait before having the surgery? Did you have to jump through any insurance hoops to get it? I would go for the fill. I am a self-pay and my surgery is on Monday, my birthday. This is my priority right now, but it doesn't mean it has to be yours. I wish you luck with whatever decision you make and i hope you win the 1st place prize. very exciting. You go girl, in both cases.

Congrats on the nomination and the great surgeon's appointment as well. I can't help with the fill because I haven't had one yet.

I think you are doing so fantastic! Keep up the good work (in all aspects!)

I went on a cruise one time and did not take a fill, I could have and decided not to, then, I did not overeat, gain any weight and ate what I wanted. This was only 4 months after my surgery. The trip was to Mexico, I just felt really stuffed after each meal! LOL (A small portion at that!)

I just came back after 9 1/2 months of being banded from a Cruise to Alaska, (Guess we do cruise a lot! HeHe) and had a fill right before I left to go. OK, it was only .02cc's! Little did I envision any problems there! To my utter surprise, I would have been better off to wait, cause, and this is from my Dr.! When you are stressed, cortizone is released into your system, you tense and your stomach SWELLS, YES and this dear tightens the BAND! I was so tight from the hurrying to get packed, make the flight to Seattle, ETC ETC ETC, Worried about taking Protein Powder and could I get skim milk, just everything until I made it worse. I don't love flying (height thing) and by the time I boarded the ship! Sick the whole time! Throwing up at every meal, could not even get Ice Cream to stay down, or anything! When I got home, I RAN to the Dr. and he put me under Flouroscopy and saw the inflamation and irritation from all the vomitting and spitting up! He withdrew .o4ccs and I have been able to go back to feeling like I have some nutrition, energy and I have lost 5 1/2 lbs to boot. From My past experience, I can truthfully say, I would put it off for a week, go have fun, don't overdo it, but you will be RELAXED and can Enjoy. And by the way! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! What an Honor for you, Icing on the Cake if you WIN and I pray you do. Post some of your photos in an Album for us if you can!

CONGRATS!!! I think in my past life i must of been a photo fanatic. In this life i just am content taking pics of my kids. Hope you win, that $$ would come in handy for all the new clothes you will need ;-)

Since it is your 1st fill i would not pospone it. Is the food at that ceremony really that good?
