Don't know where this is taking me but I am along for the ride

It's day 8 of my pre-op, Optifast diet. I thought about giving up when I got the bad news on Friday but I didn't.

I have been drinking nothing but these delicious Optifast shakes for 7+ days now and I have not been hungry. Yesterday, I actually had to remind myself to drink one for breakfast and every 3 or so hours afterwards.

My weight is dropping at rates that would make Biggest Loser contestants jealous. I've lost 9 pounds since last Monday. That is insentive enough to keep going.

I'm going to call my surgeon's office today and if they are open (US holiday), threaten to take my surgery elsewhere. Hopefully that will get some kind of reaction out of them.

I am glad you found you incentive to keep going. I realize that the road ahead for me will also be bumpy. It is very helpful to hear about people persevering even when this path is ridden with potholes.

Go with the threats, threats are good! You're their patient, they should be bending over backwards to help you through this rough patch. Good luck!

I took the opposite approach, I let the staff know that I was at their mercy and I really needed their help to make this life change. It paid off - they bent over backwards to help me. To this day, if I call and ask for an appt, they give me whatever I want - even if I give them 5 minutes notice, they squeeze me in between other patients.

I think I've been in customer service too long - I know what makes me want to help others and what makes me want to be obstinate.

Any news on a new date or new hospital. (or maybe even a new surgeon) It's really a shame they couldn't at least follow through with the surgeries they already had booked.

lbndoc, I took that approach to start but it didn't appear that the girl I was dealing cared. I took the same approach yesterday and whined instead of bitching or threatening. The office manager is supposed to call me back tomorrow.

If I don't at least hear from the office manager tomorrow, there will be a new surgeon. It will kill me though. I looked really hard for the best surgeon in the DFW area and came up with my current surgeon.

Good luck to you! I'm sure it will all work out in your best interest. The office manager may be a huge help in getting everything in order.

You could just ask in a very polite tone if they could recomend a good surgeon in the area. I've used that approach in other situations and it works quite well. That one question seems to get very quick results.
